I just saw a Sears ad on TV tonight. Now that's a rare sight these days. They were promoting their '4th of July appliance sale'.

These are still on sale for $14.99 if you didn't get some already:

Why do you even bother posting here at all. But I do want to thank you for staying away from Sears. More deals for all of us here. Now back to topic at hand :)

Why come to this thread? Curiosity. Years ago, I used to shop at Sears, and tried their Craftsman Club. Tried the Club because the two stores they had in my area (each were about 20 miles away) were getting worse and worse about stocking much of anything. For example, couldn't get a battery for a cordless drill. Not an old model - They still sold the same model in store - but no batteries. Toolboxes? "Well let's see. I think we used to have one of that model around here somewhere. Nope don't have one now." You get the idea.

So tried the Club. Would get a notice my order was ready for pick up at the store. Store had no idea if they had received it, and more often than not they didn't have it.

It wasn't long until both those stores closed. The closest one is now 50 miles away.

Oh, and to get service on a gas range that came from Sears? They wanted to send a service man from Louisville - 80 Miles away. And to charge me for their trip time each way! No thanks!

Anyway, came to this thread to see if anything had changed with Sears services and found a level of complaints at least equal to what I heard and experienced back then.

So that is why I questioned why people put up with what they do. What I got was your answer which was reminiscent of dealing with the clerks in the now defunct stores I used to go to. So, I will now be happy to stay out of this thread - and stay away from Sears - and wish you luck as you continue to deal with them.

I can't answer for the rest*, but for me it's nostalgia. I grew up with SEARS. My first new bike, well first new one that I paid for with my own earned money as a kid. The bulk candy counter in the middle of the store, the Ted Williams fishing gear, the Christmas catalog, Hillary camping gear (no not her, I mean Sir Edmund), and of course my first tools were Craftsman. It's hard to let go of what was a lifelong friend or at least the memory of a friend. My original Sears store on Lawrence Ave. in Chicago is closed now and it saddens me still, even though I live over 900 miles away. I was told that my current Sears store is the most profitable in the DFW area and probably won't close until the whole chain does. Which is kind of ironic (that is if I understand the meaning of irony, which sometimes I don't) because the store that was there before Sears moved in was....wait for it...wait.....Montgomery Ward! :)

(* I said I couldn't but I'll try anyway.) Now all the rest of these guys here it's probably not really an old childhood love, but more like a fresh kill that hasn't died just yet but is writhing on the blood soaked ground trying to determine a survival strategy. These hyenas constantly find ways to turn those stategies against the poor animal by inflicting new wounds by working the "points" and "Free cash" offers just to benefit themselves. Why yes, I am Joe King.
To be honest I'm actually a hyena myself, because the Sears that I love is already dead, so I'm just in it for me as well.

I understand the part of nostalgia, as my family and relatives still have older Kenmore/Craftsman/Diehard items around.

But you want to know their survival strategy? :lol_hitti

Oh yeah, someone mentioned a Miami mall Sears previously, and the story I found online adds to the strategy:

I take mine out of the trunk every month to check it's charge, and so far it's it needs a top off about every this month. Even then it's only down to 90ish percent.

Thanks. Thought the Pilot jumper was a good deal at $25, but it had trouble charging the third time and the casing popped when the cells expanded. :yikes:

I'm hoping a better brand will last longer. I see the Schumacher manual says you can prolong battery life by charging every 30 days or when it falls below 85% charge level.

I am getting rather annoyed with the ability to filter products available for in-store pickup (including shipping to store) being broken on Sears.com... I'm not sure exactly when it stopped working, a week or so ago, I think. It's useless getting hundreds of results that are almost entirely no longer available in any way, or are only ship-to-home, and the actually-still-buyable items are buried in amongst them. So I can resort to filtering by what's actually available in my local store without shipping to it, but that is obviously a slimmer selection of things to choose from. :(

The magnetic finger thing is back down to $2.99, decent filler item if you didn't get one last Christmas season. https://www.sears.com/craftsman-magnetic-finger-ge/p-A011260021
It might seem silly, but it is good for picking up screws and such like they advertise, and I also have found it helpful when using fiddly little L-shaped Allen wrenches, to prevent dropping one.

Thanks, I'm seriously past my need for buckets. Worst case I can steal the magnets for something. Recently I took some thin magnets I salvaged and hot glued them to carpenter's pencils (also Sears filler items), seems to be pretty convenient sticking them to tools, tool boxes, etc.

I have long since exhausted my stores supply of those pencils and keychain things and don't need any more buckets, will have to keep these magnet things in mind.

Obviously you have not been following this thread. We don't need luck. We just need points :lol_hitti

@Hexen - perfect timing for that Greenlee Cable Cutter. I do not have that in my tool box and have freecash $8 off $20 that expires today

 I had a project a couple years ago that required cutting some thick power cables, and I wish I'd had those at the time instead of what I made do with.

Craftsman 165pc Mechanics Tool Set
https://www.sears.com/craftsman-165pc-mechanics-tool-set/p-A014491227
$49.99 online sale for ship-to-home only, $149.99 regular price (and current online store-pickup price)

Reportedly the same set now being sold at Lowe's. [Correction: same piece count but not exactly the same contents.]

If you want to get it in-store, cashiers should be willing to price-match the online ship-to-home price.

So I see that my wife got another sweeps weekly email in her inbox along with $5 freecash, but I did not get mine. I am using gmail. Hopefully it is just late to get to my inbox for some reason. I want my $5 freecash :(

Any thoughts what to buy in $5-$10? Never thought I would be in this situation. I am running out of cheap stuffs in $5-$10 to buy :lol_hitti

I used to get single sockets, wrench but now I have all of the size that I need.

The people doing that reporting really need to get their eyes checked. Only took me a few seconds to see that the Lowe's set has more ratchets and wrenches, and less screw bits:

https://www.lowes.com/pd/CRAFTSMAN-...olished-Chrome-Mechanic-s-Tool-Set/1000462679

I thought it's odd that the Sears Craftsman description mentions 1/2" drive sockets, but I see they included an 1/2" adapter for the 3/8" ratchet. Even with those 1/2" drive sockets, it's 79 sockets vs 92 for the Lowe's set.

OK, it was just some comment on SD and I didn't bother to actually compare last night. Thanks for checking.

Definitely a difference in what's in the box. However, one was $39 for me and the other was $99. Difference there as well. I had a Freecash deal unbeknownst to me there waiting.

With most of the stuff on my want-list not on a decent sale currently, I decided to use my $5 off $5 towards this $20 item that's never on sale:
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-evolv-13-piece-quick-fit-nut-driver/p-00914064000P

Bought in-store. Register did not spit out a single offer/coupon. The drought continues.

There was a guy checking out ahead of me who did receive some offers/coupons after his purchase, as well as a $10 *gift card* (an orange actual Sears gift card that had to be activated, not the blue freecash coupon cards), for reasons that weren't clear to me - he might have paid with a Sears/SYW Mastercard.

PS: I saw the Sears 4th of July appliance sale TV ad several times again tonight.

2-pack of Craftsman 12" miter saw blades (80 tooth and 32 tooth) for just under $32:
https://www.sears.com/cm-2pk-12in-32t-8blades/p-00937673000P?
Lowest price ever according to price tracker.
Same exact blades as DEWALT DW3128P5, even the plastic packaging (I own both sets).

I remember seeing some of the Craftsman blades being made in Germany several months ago. I called my Hometown store, and they said they had China ones, so II'm passing for now. Are the ones you have German or China? If you say they are China but good, I may still bite. Can always include them with the 12" saw I'm selling to maybe help sell faster, after all I'd be using points on them.

Thanks for the post

Just an fyi those made in Germany ones are actually made in Israel. Don't ask how they got those mixed up. Does say German engineered on the package. I bought an 80 and 60 tooth ten inch and they seem very good. Black blade with white and green letters.

If these are the same as the Dewalt DW3128P5, those have been made in China for at least 3 years now, per Amazon reviews. Most reviewers seem to be happy with them, though there are a few complaints about the 80-tooth version.

About 250 people were laid off at Sears HQ today, Jun 26. It shouldn't have a direct effect on our activities, from what is known so far.

Same as DeWalt, Craftsman has 2 lines of blades. One line is made in China, and is meant to be disposable when dull. DeWalt calls them "Construction" blades. That's what this set is, but painted black and with a Craftsman logo. I'm very pleased with them, especially the 80 tooth 12" (in both DeWalt and Craftsman).

DeWalt and Craftsman also have a different, higher-end line of blades that are thicker, laser cut, with larger carbide tips, meant to be sharpened when dull. I believe they're meant more for woodworkers, but the woodworker crowd recommend even more expensive blades in their forums. That line from Craftsman used to be made in Germany, but is now made in Israel.

I have one of each (Israel and China) in 60 tooth 10 inch, and their cuts appear identical to me. In 12 inch, I only have these DeWalt and Craftsman "Construction" blades (China), and have been very pleased. The cuts on the 80T are extremely clean, with no tear-out, and none of my blades have any visible runout (they're straight).

I thought I had used the price tracker before, but I must be wrong. Are you not able to look back at an items cost, unless you have been subscribed to it?

Subscribe to the item, then click the tracker buttona second time after that to see the historical price.

I did do that, but the price was the same for lowest, average, & highest, so I thought it may only track the time period I was subscribed. Maybe the item has never change price. It's a Schwaben 5" Round Funnel With 24" Flexible Neck. Just trying to find more oddball items I could use in the future.

The price-tracker doesn't always seem to catch the 1 or 2 day super-price-drops... But it can be useful as an overall indicator on what an item's price tends to hover at...
