The old shop will stay the same. I still have to work on the ranch pickups, trucks, trailers, tractor, etc..
Unfortunately, that means I have to purchase alot of tools and shop equipment to put in my shop. OK--maybe that's not a bad thing!

Just a quick update!
I finally ordered some radiant tube propane heaters today. I have been waiting on a local (180 miles away!) company to give me a quote. Finally, 5 weeks later, the guy calls and quotes me $15,000 to hang and plumb 4 30' tubes.
I laughed and said I would do it myself. So, I ordered 3 30' Sunstar propane tube heaters today for $3000. They should be here next week.
Unfortunaly, I screwed up my back on Sunday. I lifted an old Craftsman drill press and loaded it in the back of the pickup. I heard something pop in my lower back and about fell down. I got x-rays yesterday. The doc thinks I may have ruptured a disk---- the plus side is he gave me some muscle relaxers and vicadin! That **** works-----turned me into a lazy *** bum!

I have 2 1500 watt heaters running on my cans of epoxy to keep it from freezing. It cost over $400 on last months electric bill! I almost had a heart attack, but it did get my **** in gear to order the tube heaters myself!

Ouch! I know exactly how it feels... I've got a disc that craps out on me once or twice a year that downs me for a couple of days each time. Had it for twenty years but won't let them do any surgery on my back until they can guarantee the result... Until then I'll just **** up and eat painkillers when it happens.

Thanks man! Yeah, it *****. But it really makes you appreciate the times your back feels okay.
You really shouldn't be inactive... I was told to get on with the everyday things, move around, take walks with the dogs and such. No heavy lifting and not bending the back too much though. The best thing is to listen to your body and ease off a little on the painkillers, just take enough of them to still know you're in pain. That keeps you from doing stupid things... When you feel alright again, take it easy for a couple of days more because that's when the body starts working full time on the healing process.
I'm keeping an eye on both you and your build...

Finally a little update.
Long story short---two herniated disc + spinal steroid injection = slowly getting life back to normal!

My shop is finally starting to look like a shop. We installed the sunstar radiant heaters just in time for warm weather! They work great, but used quite a bit of propane warming up the slab from 33 degrees to 55 degrees. They ran constant for 4 days. Part of that during a wonderful blowing blizzard!

I've had the lift assembled for a while, but no electricity to it. The electrician made here last week and I tried it out --- works great.
Note to self ( make sure both safety locks click before lowering vehicle onto locks )--- I about crapped my pants when I lowered it and the drivers side started going lower than the passenger side!

I put some of my shelving together, hung and painted the peg board, and put some tools on the wall. I still have a ways to go on building the work benches.

I bought an old forklift to save my back. It has been very handy. My nephew came over and helped me put the heavy stuff on pallets so I can move them around when I start putting epoxy on the floor. I'm going to wait for warmer weather to start that project.

That is my wife's thing! Why are you looking at it????

She wanted a project so we found her a thing! We got it back from getting paint in November and it has been too cold to drive it. She can't wait for some nice weather!

I was wondering how much that p2000 insulation costs (per sheet)? I read the site and it shows that an inch of p2000 has an R value equal to 6" of fiberglass insulation!

Will that be enough, or do you have plans to use fiberglass between the studs anyway. Can you even do that inside of the p2000?

The P2000 was included in the building quote for an additional $13000 or one dollar per sq. ft. I don't feel I have tested completely. The heaters have only been on for 2 weeks now. I think the insulation reflects the heat very well so far. I have the thermostats set for 65 degrees and the slab is staying right at 55 degrees. It is very comfortable to work out in the shop.
I hope I don't need to add any more insulation, but I probably won't know for sure until next winter. Gonna depend on the propane bill!!!!!

I don't know if it is ok to add fiberglass over the P2000 and I hope I don't have to find out!

Sorry I haven't updated my thread! I have almost finished the office, but mainly I have been working on projects. I still need to build some more storage shelves, epoxy the floor, and add more insulation.

The radiant tube heaters work great. I keep them on 50 and it is really comfortable working in the shop. We had some below zero ( down to -20F) for a while, and I had to turn the heat down because I was getting too hot. I did use about 450 gallons of propane in January and February. I plan on adding a ceiling and insulating it and the walls. I just need to save up some cash!

I have acquired a couple of new projects. The blue one is a 62 chev 4x4 and the white one is a 69 Ma Bell telephone truck. They have to wait for me to get the 72 4x4 motor swap done.

The motor swap turned into pulling the front end off, painting the firewall, fixing one rust spot, new wiring, new brake booster, new inner fenders, paint radiator support, and a new inner & outer grill! I still have a ways to go on this one.

Some new parts.
The motor is a 383 with vortec heads. It should be good for about 400 HP.

The rims are Pro Comp rock crawlers and the tires are Interco TRXUS.

Are you going to keep that truck white? I noticed you painted the firewall a different color, thus my question. Looks great though! Did you set up a paint booth in your shop or do you just mask everything off and be careful of overspray?

The Unimog is a 1975 406 with a Schmidt cab. It only had 4000 miles on it when I bought it in 2007. It came with a 10' snow blade. This thing gets around really well.....air lockers front and back.
Here are some recent pics of the mog at work. We have 3 pinzgauers too. The rest are just typical tractors, trucks, etc.

I think I have 13 now, although the ranch actually owns 3.

I painted the firewall white. The truck was orginally blue and when I got it painted white about 6 years ago, they didn't paint the firewall. It always driven me nuts, so I decided to paint it while the engine was out.

I should have set up a temporary paint booth, but I was in a hurry......and tired of sanding! I don't think I got too much overspray on anything. Next time I am going to build a plastic tarp paint booth!
