This is a Dayton grinder circa 1980's, so around 30 years old, made in Taiwan. Rated an honest 1/2hp (draws 6 amps), and runs smooth as silk. All cast alloy, including the guard covers, and built much better than your typical import grinders. The bearings are shielded--not sealed--and surprisingly there are no felt dust shields to keep out the grit. I didn't open the bottom cover, but the lack of a centrifugal switch makes me believe it is a permanent split capacitor run motor like most Baldors.
I bought this one locally for $15, installed fresh sealed bearings, whipped up a stand, and added decent wheels (pic taken before dressing the grinding wheel). Traded it to my neighbor for a nice LIPO charger for my new drone hobby, and we are both happy with the deal. These are excellent grinders and remarkable values.
Little history on this one went to family garage sale today my niece selling off some of her deceased dads stuff[hence my bil he ended up getting a 1/3 of my dad’s stuff when pops passed. I knew he got dad’s block grinder but didn’t see it anywhere figured it must of got sold off. Later in the day her husband asked me about some stuff in a shed out back.
