...until we get a confirmed answer in an e-mail that we can believe.

What would that email need to say to make you believe it? There has been a response from Snap-on posted in this thread that states the ratchet is 100% made in the USA yet you choose to not believe it. Is there a magic phrase that needs to be included? Do you need something sent via snail mail that is signed in blood?

Nothing is going to convice you guys.

On another topic. My brothers best friends uncles girlfriends son says that he knows someone who told him that MAC tools are made by child slave labor. Lets discuss that instead.

why has someone not spoken up about one of matco's mew 88 ratchets that does not have USA On it.

Probably because the title of this topic is "snap on s80 not made in america??" and therefore is specific to Snap On rather than Matco.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I thought Snap On was about as American as they come. I don't expect as much from the other tool companies... I held (notice past tense) Snap On to a higher standard.

I would like to believe that Snap of all companies still believes that the best tools are made here in the US. I dont need anything in blood, But i would like a Legally binding statement from someone in the "Know". You talk about email responses from the customer service department, with the latest one claiming that SO customers dont really care about Coo. WTF is that... Ive said this 100X's, Someone give me a credible answer on why the Dual 80's arent stamped "USA" while every other drive tool, Hand tool (that im aware of) letalone there new low profile Ratchets Are. This is not Rocket science, Im not buying the emails im receiving from Mr shaun saying that it was the CEO's decision. Im also not trying to be detrimental to any of your guys sales, Truth is If someone was offering a dual 80 to me at a discount rate i would still buy it. Its a great Ratchet with a awesome feel. With that said, At this point in my life i take great pride in being able to support US companies that are Excited about building along with advertising tools that are made here in the US, So for my New tool purchases i have decided to invest in Wright tools. Maybe the Snap on Execs need to have refresher course on what some of there customers are interested in, But then Maybe they dont care. I dunno....

I am not saying I wouldn't buy a dual 80, I went from zero 3 months ago to 10 now(but I also won't pay list price either)... I just wish I knew the truth. I did get one dual 80 that said made in usa, but something tells me that for all of the years snapon has been around, made in the usa was something they were proud enough to put on all of the tools. So what has changed? Either they aren't pround of being a USA company anymore or the product isn't 100 percent made here, which is fine but grow some balls and be honest about it. If they can't grow some balls, I would be happy to buy them a set of truck nuts.:lol_hitti

All I want to know is why they stopped putting made in usa on the dual 80's and only the dual 80's if they are still proud to be a USA company? Why don't they take made in the USA off of all their new tools? I don't believe the answer about other counties buying the tools and people don't care about COO. I am so tired of not getting a straight answer, I am not going to jump ship, but Wera has been looking better in my eyes and they are honest where they have their stuff made.

By the way, I am thinking I might see more proto stuff in my future, as they have been making the 5449 in this county for 65+ years.

The new low profile ratchets are NOT stamped USA on the tool. The packaging does say made in the USA.

I am not taking any of this debate personally.

What would constitute a credible answer? You have been given an answer about customers not caring about COO and you choose not to believe it. That is the same party line they have been using since the dealers first started screaming about this a couple of years ago. I do not agree with their thinking on this but that does not mean that I think they are lying about it.

What basis would they have for saying that their customers don't care about COO? Where does that come from? And, do they mean American customers, or global customers?

I was curious about that as well, I think the "Global Customers" are the ones who don't care.

I would have to assume they mean global customers. US sales account for only about half of Snap-on's total sales. I dont feel like looking up the latest stockholder report so I am not exact on that but global sales are a large part of Snap-on's total revenue.

I stand corrected, I thought i seen the USA stamp in the monthly flyer that came out a couple months ago. (Me scuries off to start a new thread "Are the New Low Profile ratchets Made in the USA") Well i didnt know till now that the Low Profile ratchets were also dual 80 gears. Makes sense why there not stamped USA now. LOL

Exactly.. I dont follow suit with Tim from Customer service stating that "Most Customers dont care about COO" I guess i would like to see someone from Snap on, Release a statement on Why there not Stamped USA or maybe one of there fancy videos Documenting where the ratchets come from, Or how bout a picture of the machine making the internals for the dual 80's. Im not picky...

You have already seen such a statement and you choose not to believe it.

Good Enough... I apreciate both dealers sharing there stories on what they have been told concerning the "USA stamp or lack there of" But i dont buy it and thats my Opinion based off the other tools not containing "Dual 80" technology.

Good Day

Hmm........ Dual 80 not marked USA. New ratchet comes out using the same internals, not marked USA. Hmmm........... Now here's is the real question, are the new sockets that came out with the low pro ratchet marked USA? I'm willing to bet they are, and if they are that kind of goes against their new supposed philosophy. Assuming of course that the sockets are new production that went along the same R&D as the new ratchet.

1/4 drive low profile sockets are not marked USA.

I don't have a regular SO dealer. because I have student discount so I need to deal with my Snap On Industrial rep, which an employee of Snap On. in a very recent conversation he told me 100% of the Snap On hard line tools are made in the U.S. so I emailed him the links for the chinese $36 socket and $100 c-clamp. he said "I don't know they are made in China".

so, I don't think he's lying, but how much you trust about what he's saying to you?

I have noticed that some users in Japan have spoken up about the dual 80 ratchets--they, too, notice the lack of "USA" and are scratching their heads.

The 1/4 could be too small to fit the stamp.

if someone can stamp "USA" on an 1/16" drill bit, I think SO can afford to get their hands on a similar stamp/die. cough.....(only if they want to)

In 8 years only one customer has brought something back or refused to buy the tool due to it not being made in the USA.
SO I can safely say that a vast majority of my customers really do not care ( or they do not tell me about it) abou the COO. they want service and a quality tool they can trust.
beyond that what else do you want...

I bet the vast majority of the people buying those "Snap on" Flashlights, Pressure washers, Drop cords at Costco also think they are cashing in on the a Great "Snap on" Product also. I would venture to bet the majority of people dont have a clue that Snap on would even consider selling something that wasnt manufactured entirely in the US. Over the years ive seen Hydraulic Jack companies do the same thing Lincoln, Hein Werner they where both guilty of slapping there name on a Import and charging Normal prices. You know what? Lincoln is no longer in the Hydraulic business, Hein werner canned 60+ years of thre own history. And when people finally came to the realization that they had been duped. They where PISSED. Im not sure how long either of you guys have been dealers, Do you remember the day when Snap on actually sold quality Jacks (Walker/Lincoln) Any pissed off customers over the New stuff there pushing?

I believe it 100%. I see this eventually on several forums I participate on - members who are intensely interested and informed about a particular subject or product get tunnel vision and believe that the public at large sees things the same way they do.

It's my firm belief that most consumers don't ever once think about country of origin. And even if they did, have even less of a clue about why it's important.

Dont get me started on this brand marketing ****. I am with you 100% that the stuff that is being sold at Costco and the likes is **** not worthy of the Snap-on name and is devaluing a brand image. Just because I believe that the Dual 80's are made in the USA does not mean that I agree with the party line about COO. When I found out that the USA was no longer on the ratchets, I pulled a couple off of the truck that had USA on them and put into my personal toolbox. I don't agree with some of the things that Snap-on is doing with the brand but they don't consult me on those decisions.

I have been a dealer for 6 years but my first Snap-on purchase was over 20 years ago. I think I still have that ratchet.

Is it true that people in other countries don't care about COO? Perhaps some of our "foreign correspondents" can answer that.

Hell I'm still pissed they took hardline production out of Canada. My "made in Canada" stamped Snap on ratchets are the best ratchets of all the Snappy's I have.I,for one, will not knowingly be buying any "globally sourced" Snap on tools. For the price I have to pay for Snap on I want made in USA stamped in them.To my mind if it's not stamped in it's made somewhere else. Why pay Snap on prices for import tools. There are lots of companies out there selling imported tools for a lot less than Snap on.Many of them are as good in my opinion.I pay Snap on prices for USA made tools because I want the best. Many of the Snap on things I have bought lately have been of questionable quality and I'm getting to the point where I wonder if even the stuff they make here is worth the money.

there once was a thread which discussed that the Dual80, low profile ratchet and Bluepoint ratcheting wrenches share the same gear design and all of them are not marked "USA" ..... (ratcheting wrench origin: Taiwan)

So does someone have the patent number for the "Dual80" gear assembly .....?

I guess that is true. But there are enough similarities that I don't have to wonder where they got the idea, especially since that ratchet wrench was patented first. I'm just not a believer in that big of a coincidence and I pride myself on not being that gullible :)

I have read the snap on reply it was written by a philadelphia Lawyer with lots of double talk.

If you are proud you put the usa stamp on your product.
If you use a foreign material and you dont want uncle Sam breathing down your back then off comes the usa stamp.

I wish I could post a picture but that will not happen! I have a set of wrenches from snap on with the # SOEXRM710,the box reads usa. The wrench reads soexrm19 pat 5117714 nowhere does it say USA.

I am sorry but this is the way things are moving I do not like it, I dont like the double talk and I dont like paying high prices for chinese goods with the snap on name.

At least Gearwrench is open and honest.
