Rian your front spoiler has came out well.

It is an improvement on what was there.

Agree, but I would probably damage it parking into a curb or concrete block. [emoji23]

Trust me, so would I.

Hi Rian,

Well I have just finally caught up to the present time , July 2018 after reading your whole thread. It has taken me over two months ! Kinda like watching "back to the Future" movies as I would also from time to time read your current post of the day. I kept wanting to reply to various posts , but then "hang on , that was in 2015" so refrained or it would have made no sense. I love the way you do all this stuff, maybe that's why it has taken me so long to read your mixed grill thread- I keep getting inspired to do things at my place between readings !
cheers,

Greg

Hi Greg,

Thank you for taking the time to write up a reply.

You are most welcome to ask random questions if there are any things you need to know.

I realised today when reading your post that this really has become a “Mixed Grill”

Rian, I enjoy reading about all your projects. Your new welding table was a great score!
Warren

Warren, as always, I get a buzz from finding stuff that translates into releasing cash for other things.

But it will be a good tool, already used today.

Silver color I think

Agreed Stas.

Woken at 03.00

Could not get back to sleep.

Chatted to Dennis for about 45 minutes.

Bootfairs paid off.

New, unused Olney hat £2.00

A bit of research...

My other favourite.......

Aluminium safety hat, like new..... 50p

Could be an industrial style lampshade, or possibly I could try drawing onto it with a Sharpie and then engrave some scenery on it.

Other items included a pair of lump hammers, one for me, one for mate Craig, £1.00 each.
Safety glasses, 50p/pair
Large hip flask £1.00
D-shackles 50p each
Two Desperado glasses 50p each
Mug 50p
Quirky new Scarf for Joy £1.00
Toy for Wyzz 30p
Bearing scraper 20p
Radio (working) for my kitchen 50p
Working calculator for my office 50p
Grinding and cutting discs 30 for £8.00

Then back home to do ironing, clean house and then head for garage.

My deck furniture has been degenerating over time.

Found this chair on the South Circular and fixed it, minor repair.

Mate Kevin dropped off some chairs his wife had thrown out, so they needed a bit of tlc as well, mainly Danish Oil like the other chair did, but they looked a bit tired against it.

I made the mistake of buying two litres of Outdoor Furniture oil, and not Danish Oil as planned, only realised once I opened it and poured into my tub.

Still, it certainly revitalised the wood, comparing one done vs one not yet done.

I will go get some Danish Oil during the week and give them a coat over the oil.
Should be good.

Been awake since 03.00

Had planned some truck time this weekend, just did not quite turn out as I wanted it to.

But, got stuff done and Bootfair God’s were kind to me.

Unpacked part of the small 2berth caravan that is one of my storage sheds, can’t go wrong with £40.00 for a large shed, can you?

Got the fenders out, that went in there over three years ago.

Laid them out and realised that I have my work cut out for me.

Passenger side, filled with mud and not healthy, loads of filler evident.

Also evidence on both sides of loads of filler......

Looks like a world of pain to me.

Patch panels and replacement braces laid out.

In the end I decided that as it was 15.00 already, I would carry on with the r pairs on some, hardwood deck, chairs mate Kevin had brought over.

Now the weekend is over it seems..

Thanks for checking in and commenting all.

Evening mate

Thanks for posting as much as you do, you always give me plenty to read.
We’re sitting at the airport, delayed due to weather and you’ve very helped
Pass the time.

Keep on keeping on.
Regards
Steve

Headed back to Mud Island already?

More like Dustbowl City.

Pleasure Steve, trust you have Andy’s hammer tucked safely away in your baggage.

One of the guys on Retro Rides replied thus to my Bootfair post.

may I do the Brighton version of boot fairs with your list? If those things were here, it would go a little something like this;

a pair of lump hammers, one for me, one for mate Craig. yeah they're vintage mate £30 each.
Safety glasses. a lot of people are wearing these at the moment mate £65 pair
Large hipster flask £120
D-shackles, big on the gay scene right now, galvanised which is better, I dunno why it is better though. £8 each, I can sort you out some chain as well mate, only a tenner a foot/ you wont get it it any cheaper trust me
Two Desperado glasses, nicked from a pub but they're original, well futile £7 each. £7? but you stole them? yeah it is what it is mate
Mug (starting to wonder who the mug is at this point)
Quirky new Scarf for Joy, oh its a present? she will love it, its only £45
Toy for Wyzz. you have a dog? must be rich... all dogs love these mate, especially your French bulldogs £10
Bearing scraper, priceless. as no one will know what it is, no one will ask how much it is. although some kid with a moustache and a top hat will mumble something to his mate about it being Vintáge
Radio (working) for my kitchen, 50p, too new and ordinary to sell for loads and get shafted, you may well get one for 50p.
Working calculator for my office, needless to say the £20 asking price will be explained with over used adjectives; retro, vintage, oldschool digital etc
Grinding and cutting discs 30 for £8.00 - these will sit unsold, only clean handed folk live here, getting your hands dirty is not a good look.

despite this, I still go to the Brighton marina boot fair often. didn't get anything but saw a skull I liked. it wasn't anything majorly crazy but it was £90. so it didn't come home

Rian those fender patches are not that difficult. I found it to be one of the easiest rust repairs on my truck. If you look back through my thread post #920 - #930 has pics of my driver side repair with the inner and outer patches.

Rian, love the fedora. I'm usually humming the theme song to Indiana Jones whenever something gets fixed proper. You know those gaps are huge when both the African and Asian continents can be seen through them. For the hard hat, it could also be repurposed to hold snacks if you turned a base for it or stuck on some rubber feet. Looks like the bootfair gods were feeling quite generous.

Lol, I like that^^^, probably has some truth to it. I like to visit Brighton at
least once a year. Don’t know what it says about me.:dunno:

Andy’s/my hammer packed safely away.
See you soon, before the rain arrives.
Steve

I don’t think liking Brighton says anything about you.

I have never liked Brighton, neither the trip there, nor the overpriced, unavailable parking.

In my book it is a suburb of London and overpriced to suit the taste of the local residents.

Your hammer, I predict, will find a special place inside your home.......

Bret

Bret, thank you for the reply and continued support, here and on Messenger.

I have looked at your posts and they do make it look easy.

I guess, like everything I do, I will just need to get on with it and once I researched a bit more, and gathered the confidence....... Tally-Ho !!

Hat was a great find for sure, glad I knew what it was.

Hardhat idead include an industrial style lampshade, scrimshawed or engraved ornament, or something else if I get inspired.

Still researching joggled vs **** welded joins. However, the Guru has suggested Joggling

Once the next 12days are out the way, I may get back onto it. (Mid year reviews and a few other bits)

I need to clean up both fender panels on both sides and deconstruct them as far as needs to be gone.

Then decide what I have to work with.

There are oceans of filler there, and if you recall the original lower control arm, the truck was in a decent shunt at some point, so it could have included sheetmetal too.

As removed from the running driving truck.

So there could be some more surprises hidden under all the red shiny paint

Great bootfair haul. Love the hat(s). Thought I had the front end of my Chevelle sitting on concrete blocks in the back yard for the last 23 years. Rearranged my horde of spare parts 3 weeks ago to reposition my Suburban farther forward in order to put my parts truck behind it and discovered the bottom of the front fenders had come off the blocks and were buried in the yard. The bottom 2"-3" are nothing but rust shards so I've got the same repairs ahead of me. I'll bet you get done first!

My progress will be slower than I usually get on with stuff but needs to be done right.

Took a day leave today so that I could prepare for my mid year review next week.

Yes, it is a big deal and a lot of preparing.

Fetched a fan from the garage, because it got hot.

This thermometer is inside my bathroom.

At about 19.00 Iwent to the garage to give the four rescue chairs a coat of Danish Oil.

With help as always.

Despite the two coats of furniture oil, you can s e the difference the Danish Oil made.

And all four done.

Happy with the exult.

Probably around £35.00 plus my time

Hopefully years of use ahead in them

Turned out a treat. They would sell for a lot at one of the fairs. Good thing you can use them for the next grill session!

Thanks.

I BBQ through the year.

Gives me great pleasure starting a fire in snow or very low temperatures and knowing the smell of burning cow and chicken drives the neighbourhood mad.

The chairs will work for sure.

Need to find a home for the older ones, Joy may be interested in a couple for her garden.

Rian that's just a little warm, how are you copping?

It certainly is warm Steve.

Went to sleep at 10.30pm, woke at 12.00 to take pills as back and shoulder were playing up. Woke at 02.00 and by 2.30 turned off the fan as the drone kept me awake, then could not,get back to sleep and got up at 05.30 to do some admin, feed cats and get ready to come to London.
In Guys Hospital by 08.50 for work, have a 12.30 training session booked with 20 senior nurses for an hour, last one was brilliant, even got applause.
Then head home by 14.00 for 2.5 hr train trip, get admin, laundry done and have Joy over for dinner, which may become take always as I cannot be bothered to cook us dinner in this heat.

Shock horror. Come to Australia as we live with that much of the Summer. Not the usual for the UK.

Yeh , I used to think all was the same- just compare the numbers ! I was in the UK and Europe in April-May this year (outside all day on a bicycle , touring) , and we had a few days of 28 degrees which I feel were equal to Aussie 38 degrees , and nearly had heatstroke on the three or four 33 degree days. I've ridden in over 45 degrees in Aus and it seems a lot different !!

Totally get you, and you are right, unusual for the U.K.

Agreed, the heat is different, and we are not set up or dressed for it.

My day job is in a suit and tie.

So we suffer a bit.

39°........pfffffft. That's a cold snap for us.

This last week we were at 44° - 45°. :FIREdevil

I guess. :)

You got it, lol!

My house is brick built and was built in 1921, so not at all set up for this sort of heat. Over here it is more about winter insulation than summer heat.

Worked in London on Friday. Had a training session for 20 senior nurses that went great.

Earlier in the day I saw this bike.

Branded as a Mondial, I suspect it is another Chinese built clone, using an old name and license.

They are available in 125cc and 250cc and I love the look.

By 15.00my car said it was a bit hot.

Back home, even the cats had melted, looked like Dukey had tried to drag himself off the couch and failed.

Had to go to the shops yesterday, was looking for some affordable work shirts, this led me to the usual Turkish restaurant I love going to on a Saturday afternoon.

Pizza anyone?

And no, it does not have to be round.

Not a good day for Bootfairs today.

The larger One has shut down for the rest of the year, due to trading laws, which means they can only use a site so many times per year, and the second site they usually move to has been closed down this year, as it will be developed into an housing estate.

So the smaller site was operating. But with less than half the field occupied by 06.30 when I got there, usually it’s a lot fuller even by then.

So I did not hold out much hope, and seeing hordes of Eastern Europeans flocking the site meant some shoving and being walked out the ground, fortunately I am larger than life and only got shoved once.

I walked the rows and there was very little of interest, and I tend to avoid tables when there are 10 young men milling about, all speaking foreign and getting way too close inside my personal space, I had been attempted to get pick pocketed a few years ago by a man, I got his hand on my wallet in my pocket, and landed a flat handed slap to the side of his head, this really pisssed Nicola off at the time as she was worried I could have been assaulted by a gang, but I told her in no uncertain terms to not even go there, she may have understood.

So by the time I got to the second row, after starting out, I saw some bits, randomly on a table. Seller a super nice guy, chatted with him for about 15 minutes in the end.

Bought a few things off him.

Some 150mm Velcro 320 grit sanding discs for when I get to that on the truck.

£5.00/50 per box, one box for mate Martin. Or about $7.50 per box

3mm drill bits 10/pack £5.00 took all four as they are disposable these days. Or $7.50 for 10
12mm HSS drill bit £1.00 or about $1.50

So the Bootfair was not a total bust.

Came home and now it is raining, perfect to break the long hot spell, and stop me from grinding a truck fender

I was just thinking I might get to see you in a little bit and then you post a picture.

Morning Andy,

My telephone line has been down since Friday, and since it feeds my internet, and thus WiFi it has been a bit awkward, using the phone data or company iPad to post and reply.

It was good chatting the other day, as says Craig, that the two of you had a great chat.

As soon as my WiFi is back, and you are on it too, we will catch up on FaceTime

Still raining outside,

Not done much over the weekend due to rain, but house is clean, and my mate Kevin was over yesterday afternoon on his new VW Camper-van.

Back to work today.

I have my mid year performance review on Wednesday morning with the new boss.

He has worked with me one day 5ks year, so it should be interesting hearing his views on my performance.

Those "new" chairs look great on your deck!

If Joy doesn't take the chairs, you probably can make a bigger deck table. That pizza looked delicious. If you haven't tried it before, grilled pizza is also very delicious. You can use a ceramic round, but I've put the dough right on the grill before and it works great. I'm guessing you could get yours pretty hot which is best for the dough and ingredients.

Bummer about the rain, but you'll be stateside before you know it.

Very enjoyable thread to read. I like to see the differences between life across the pond to ours in the USA especially for someone who has never been outside of the USA.

Are you still planning to come through Iowa when you visit? If so what area are you visiting.

Thanks Ric

I like them. They are comfy and came with removable cushions too.

I like rain. More than doing jobs as I love my garden and plants.

Deck is more than big enough and Joys dUghter already claimed the chairs.

Grill is great. I love a hot fire.

And actually built an oven alng with the BBQ originally.

Hi Yates

I plan on trying to get to Monroe to see a friend there.

Also want to pop in at the American Pickers shop to just tick a box for a programme that I like, due to me liking old junk and antiques.

No idea where in the state you are.

Craig and I are travelling together as we are both fans of so much stuff including cars and building.

Evening Rian,

I trust the review went well, it was never going to go any other way really , was it.

I think I'm being roped in to do a bootsale this weekend, at least I get some time out in the splitscreen :bounce:

Regards
Steve:beer:

Hey Steve, you and your family still need to pop over for a BBQ, fortunately I burn meat all year.

Yes, I was pleased the boss was happy, he rated me as “Exceeds expectations” in most areas. I prefer up to scratch, but hey..... means he leaves me alone to get on and do my job.

PM sent, Grizz.

Thanks Yates, replied and Craig is all excited too

"Exceeds Expectations", that's our Rian.
Great work fella

Thank you mate, I always hate these things.

In the job I do, we have field trainers who are meant to work with us once a month tomfine tune and ensure maximising everything we do.

The last time I had a trainer out with me was October 2016 Yes,really.

My new manager, in post since January, went out to work with me on the 12th July for the first time.
His predecessor who is bowman the bigger boss, was out with me in May last year.......

Yet, they make decisions on our performance, remuniration etc when they pretty much have no clue what I am doing, except for generating £1.5 mil per year.

So I do worry, in case they get clever with me.

Guess they leave me alone as they know they don’t need to baby sit me.

We expected nothing less.

Thank you too, feels good, now I can get a bit more sleep.

I didn't know if the place would interest you guys but glad to know it does.

Looking forward to a factory trip and trying to understand your business a bit better.

Few random pics.

Craig sent me this pic, does he have a problem?

Kevins wife insisted I would love this mug.....

Why??

My friend Bryan keep changing his Imp.

This years look.

Got lucky this week.

Lodger traded me for six beers.

New Bahco wrench.

In other news, a friend who works in a hospital and is responsible for getting rid of broken and out of service equipment found me some wheels, possibly for the welding table, but I am waiting to see what else he finds.

Over in St Louis, Dennis’ replica gas station is taking shape, rain and weather has hampered progress recently, but he hopes to get a full day on it today.

Took a day vacation yesterday and did a load of garden work, as well as cutting my and Mickeys hedges. The heat was a killer, but it is all done.

Bootfair in the morning and hope to get some time on one or both of the truck fenders to clean them up to see what is hidden under it all,

Thanks for checking in.

For me on my reviews, I usually walk in my managers office thinking to myself......yeah, yeah, blah blah blah, let's get this over with. I got a ton of **** to do. Don't get me wrong, my manager is a great guy and I get great reviews, but these "reviews", at least for me, are merely a checkbox for management to see. Don't like them. I like them about as much as I like meetings......blech!

Glad you're resting easier these days. Hope it cools off for you soon.

Take care!

Thank you.

Yes, I think they certainly are ticking box s, bit sad, but hey, it pays the mortgage.

Thats an "interesting" Imp, there is a part of me that has always wanted to get one of them and stick a wankel engine in.

Now that would be mad.
