My new garage is near completion and am planning for painting it inside... What do folks recommend for ceiling paint? Standard (flat) interior ceiling paint or something different? Thinking of painting the walls 'eggshell'. Thanks.

Gloss the whole thing. Cant wipe stuff of eggshell or flat paint.

I'd use regular flat or satin interior paint. Gloss will show every imperfection, if you have to wipe stuff off the ceiling you're doing something wrong. 
Having a little more durable finish is not a bad idea in a utility space -- an eggshell will give you the ability to wipe something off. I have about an eggshell in mine -- I mostly vacuum .. but occasionally you swat a bug and need to wipe it off.
Gloss is fine for walls when going for a drama -- like red and black. I did a space in white glass many years ago after being in a another space w/o much natural light -- too much glare. I find the better quality eggshell has the durability of the cheaper semi .. and its nicer.
Years ago when there was less choices -- most kitchens and baths got semi.

Agree, unless you can do immaculate finish work, spending twice the time on compound work and sanding, stay away from gloss paint. Go eggshell finish paint.

New paints are much better for staying intact when wiping stains off. A lot has changed in the last 40 years of latex paint. Even the last 5 years have seen improvements.
Gloss will show imperfections as already stated. Go flat or satin.

It's a "garage" not the living room! I'd do gloss enamel- yeah, the oil-based kind. With that I "could" use a garage hose to clean/wash it.

We did a gloss exterior grade paint on the inside of our garage. In our experience, the exterior grade paint is more durable.

My ceilings and walls are gloss. Run some diesels occasionally in the garage and being able to wipe everything down is priceless. Also like mentioned above, get the exterior formula.
Never liked painting ceilings but recently did one. I saw that Lowes has a 'color changing' ceiling paint. It goes on with a purplish color and dries to white. Actually worked pretty well
And of course, keeping up with the latest trends, it is a primer and paint in one

I have been using semigloss bright white for the last few houses. The shine looks cool. When I move again I will do the same thing. In my shop I used semigloss too, Did make for an easy way to wipe down the walls.

I think alot of people forget that on here. Its a garage and there actualy build a "garage".

For my garage, I went with a white semi-gloss. One I wanted a bright reflective surface to accent lighting and second surface that would help with repelling dust. As a added fiture, i can wipe and/or wash.

Painted mine with cheap ceiling white, flat from Sherwin Williams. After 2 plus years still looks good.
As I am closing in on Medicare I find that I need better lighting, so I used white semi gloss in walls and ceilings. Easy to clean when needed, and the light
reflects evenly when I am working. Did not matter as much when I was 30.

I'm reminded of when I built my garage and I had a dispute with the roofer, who had done a crappy job. Partway through the argument he said, "it's just a garage". I reminded him that it wasn't just a garage, it was MY garage. I won the argument, and he re-did the roof.
The point being, maybe you wouldn't be bothered by seeing those imperfections in your garage, but maybe it would bother other people in their garage.
