The wrenches are the 800 series. I think these were salesman samples and not available for purchase, hence the staples.
Hmm. Maybe. Or maybe that was to keep everything in place until it was bought? I dunno. Either way, they're cool!

Greg, yours looks like it had staples at one point.
I think you're right. There were so many holes I didn't much attention to them!

Baby in one hand and Wingnutt's Whiz in the other? :lol_hitti

Ok new to me but I think it's missing a few pieces. Anyone have a picture of what should be here?

No, but if you want to scroll through a few catalogs, here is four.cycle's 'Indestro Catalogs' thread. That looks like a SUPER set. I would start with 1948 or 1955. I had a complete 1/2-inch drive SUPER set in a red box with a label exactly like that about 10 years ago. Very nice snag, Macduf!

I found these sockets on Ebay for $6 plus $7 shipping. The set goes from 9/16 to 1". I'm happy with them.

Here's a repaired Indestro Select double ratcheting box wrench I snagged. One side spun freely, so I had to drill out the rivets to get in there and repair it. Did a cleaning while I was at it, and re-assembled with Chicago bolts. They looked about the best and had the lowest profile of any fasteners I had available. Works great!

I don’t frequently venture out of the Vintage tool discussion but here are my complete and partial wartime D-I 1/4” drive sets.

Placeholder for my Indestro body tools.
Looking forward to that, bb!

We really need to do something about getting this thread and the Bonney thread moved to the Vintage Board.

There is no rationale for keeping them up here. Duro/Indestro shut down in 1990, and, while Bonney lasted just a little longer into the early 1990's, it wasn't even a vestige of its former self at that time, just a name managed by Triangle. Both have been out of business for at least 25 years. None of their tools can be considered contemporary, not even the later production.

One could make the argument that it doesn't matter what board they're on, just subscribe to the threads (which I have done, obviously, a long time ago), but there are scores of newer guys on the Vintage Board who have not, because they don't know the threads are up here. Also, not having the threads on the Vintage Board deprives the entire board of their contributions to the collective history of vintage tools, which transcends brand.

I'll be honest. Lord knows I love 'em all, but the fact that we have threads dedicated to Blackhawk, Herbrand, New Britain, Plomb, P&C, SK, Snap-on, Thorsen, Williams, and Wright on the Vintage Board - while our brethren Bonney and Duro-Indestro threads are left stranded and MIA up here in General Discussionland offends my sense of righteousness.

As the toolRangers say - No Vintage Brand Left Behind!

No. I figured that tongue-in-cheek speech would rally the troops so to speak. :) And besides, it's not my thread. Just one man's opinion. Let's see what matthew thinks. He still pops in from time to time. I know bonneyman does, too, but I pinged him on the Bonney thread just in case.

I picked up these WWII era "E-6X" series ignition wrenches (E61, E62, E64, and E66) at my flea market this morning. Missing the E63 (7/32"-15* x 1/4"-60*), E65 (9/32"-15* x 5/16"-60*), and the E67 (11/32"-15* x 3/8"-60*) and the roll-up for a full early war set. I may have them in my orphans stash.

So over the weekend I found a 1/4" Indestro ratchet. That post triggered some posts about Indestro tools so I figured I'd show what I have.

Top ratchet is an Indestro Select 6470 1/2" drive open head ratchet. It has a bunch of rust/rash but it spins freely and works great. I just dunked it in oil and spun it to lubricate and free it up. Not sure if it can be disassembled.

Next ratchet is an Indestro Super 3275 1/2" drive ratchet. I love the "keep clean and oil" note . . .

Next ratchet is an Indestro Super 2736 3/8" drive flex head ratchet.

Bottom ratchet is the Indestro 2875 1/4" drive ratchet. It looks like the plate around the 1/4" drive is flipped on this ratchet. I haven't taken it apart to see what's up.

Cheers

Jim

Minus the extension, 7/16 and 9/16, is all of my Duro. I have one or two indestro wrenches I picked up at flea markets, they're in a box someplace.... Typically in this box goes an old armstrong ratchet too, it's my "go work on _____'s truck" set.

I too almost never check this thread because I hang out in the vintage tool discussion for the most part. On the rare times I venture out it's to post on the garage sale thread. Here is a 1945 Duro ignition wrench set in a very rare canvas roll.

I try to manage my internet wasted time, but definitely try to catch back up with the thread when I see it popped back to the top of the forum.

I defer to what the others think. They definitely are 'vintage' items. I would say that I sort of like the way so many old Indestos in my box (and so many of the finds on this thread) are still working earning their keep, so I don't think of the vintage part as the important thing to me (I just think of them as interesting tools) but whatever makes sense to everyone is fine with me - I'll bookmark it and check in periodically if I don't start venturing into the vintage forum.

It's even got the push-through drive plug and the valve lapper adaptor socket. That set would make an awesome restoration candidate. I favor preservation, but because the lid is embossed, you're not removing anything except old paint by stripping it and repainting it.

I was thinking the same thing . Just clean it up first see how it looks. Then go from there. Seems to be all there for the most part. Theres another extension under the speedster even.

I’m glad my request to move this thread to the Vintage Tool discussion was granted. To celebrate, here is a picture of some ignition wrench sets that I took yesterday. Just ignore the chrome Giller set.

Indestro model 7602 1/4" drive SAE set

(* The red box, as I noted somewhere else, dates back to the mid-late 1950s. Prior to that the 1/4" drive sets were packed in a blue box (as shown in the 1948 catalog No. 16.)
This set contains the "unobtainium" 2889 reversible 1/4" male drive pressed-flange chromed ratchet with knurled round handle - a miniature version of the 1/2" drive 3201 (both built under patent number 1902878.) The set is missing the spinner (which in this case would have been the early clear yellow-handled model 2873.)
(* Note that the 3/16" chromed socket is stamped "D I", belying the myth that all Duro / Indestro product stamped "D I" was wartime vintage. *)

(* I had previously thought this set contained the wrong ratchet, but after finding a copy of a 1958 Shapleigh Hardware Co. catalog listing for the 7602 set containing this style ratchet, I believe the ratchet is actually original to the set. There does exist, however, the question as to why it would not have contained the later 2875 round-head-fine-tooth model, which was shown in an early 1950s catalog (Indestro catalog No. 20) being touted as "new", having been patented August 17, 1954. *)

(* Note that (what is believed to be) the 1959 Indestro catalog No. 22 shows the model 7602 set containing the 2875 RHFT ratchet (patent 2686582 *)

Four cycle it is great to see you are back. I hope all is well. I enjoy your post as I have a lot of Indestro tools. I started back in the 60s buying them. Your knowledge is greatly appreciated
