Good to hear from you Lyndon. It's a shame we don't get regular updates from you but we get mega ones when you do. Those are some nice woodworking goodies you got.

You definitely beat my sunset photos. Sorry to hear about the knee saga. I am not looking forward to when that inevitably happens to me. Retirement in 2 years that means you will possibly have heaps of Saturdays to give more updates. :D

Oh, And I was supposed to be in for a knee replacement on 13th August, but discovered my health insurance doesn’t cover it, so that’s off until July next year. Only have to endure 1 year of agony until that’s fixed!QUOTE]
Good to hear from you Lyndon, not so good to hear about the knee.
Make sure you get a second and third opinion, too many of these bone doctors do em for the $$$$. My ortho refuses to do mine, and it's a lot worse than a lot of people who have them done. New one is only good for up to 10 years......

And then, just yesterday, I went to the Timber, And Woodworking Show in Sydney, and went berserk....:

Japanese saw set :

And a nice piece of 8mm safety glass for sanding duty.

The thing I've been after for ages, but wasn't prepared to pay $600 for:

IMG_7234.JPG

Got it for $275....

And a few other things to go along with those:

And, at enormous cost, the Veritas grinding jigs I've been after for ever to finish the planes....:

With some grinding tools:

Lyndon
Keep up now! :beer2: :hellobye:
Lyndon, thank you for posting. We miss you but if it's only 731 days to parole, we'll try to be patient. :fingersx:

That Sydney show was a tool addict's dream. The shows I get to see sell Chinese seconds and rejects.

To me your most interesting acquisition is the Renovator. I get that it's an "Extra Pair of Hands" but I really want to see a "hands free construction project" because that would make my "fun-to-watch" projects look boring.

Bob,

That vice looks a lot like the Zyliss vice that I bought years ago at a Woodwrking Show in Richmond, VA. There is a used one on eBay https://www.ebay.com/i/163143827191?chn=ps

You can apparently order one from here new, but they have really gone up in price! https://advanced-machinery.myshopify.com/products/original-z-vise-portable-clamping-system

'Feast or famine' eh? it is still good to see you doing well and setting time aside for the shed and GJ. You have some very nice new tools to boot. Though I'm not quite sure on the purpose of the Renovator doodad. Seen one sold here under the Zyliss brand as mentioned. Looking forward to see what you use it for.

Know all too well how hard it is to maintain a balance that is a little bit less skewed towards the ones that pay you. We're about to go through the mother of all restructures and it is going to be a 'fun' few months ahead over here with more frequent travel implied. The good news is it should get warmer soon and downhill to Christmas and you'll be over the hump once those kids are married.

PS. Your photos show fine here.

Hi Lyndon, what a tool score ! You have been busy on all fronts.
I also went to the working with wood show ( Friday) and saw there were 2 vendors for that vice system, I actually watched the demo ( I think it was the other vendor) so I could see what to do with the Zyliss vice I bought on eBay many years ago.I did not have the budget credits to spend up much but it was interesting , new show owner and venue (but IMHO not nearly as good as the last few years).

You should see a Dr Courtenay at St Vincent's Private in Sydney. Not only does he do the surgery for "No Gap", but the instrument inserted has a 50 year guarantee....

Bob - I'm yet to use the "Extra Pair of Hands"... but can advise that at present, I have discovered that it won't fit my bench... Go figure!

Good to see you have been busy in many ways and not just MIA from the forum. As for the knee all I can say is good luck.

Thanks for the update Lyndon

Good to hear from you mate!

And very nice new toys

Good to see a new post from you Lyndon.
I've seen the Renovator thing advertised on TV, they look pretty handy - but too much $ for me. :(

I think you will get a lot of use out of the "extra pair of hands", my mate says it is the most used piece he has when he is working by himself.

Good to see you check in Lyndon!

Thank you, gentlemen one and all!

It's very late Friday night here, and I haven't said much for a while. But a lot has been happening.

Health Front: Ok, so my Dr of the last 25 years (and my co conspirator at many F1 GP's) suddenly retired, leaving me the need to get a new Dr.... The one recommended by the good mate (& suddenly retired previous Dr) was discussing my previous history..... And decided that to investigate my "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" it was best if I got an iron test, involving a blood test. 1st one was done in June, with a result of 22..... I didn't know what that meant, but the good Dr had to do one again a month later. So, early this month (OK - so 2 months later) I did it again. This time my score is 14....

Well apparently the acceptable scores are between 30 and 300. Only pregnant women are supposed to get near 30. Healthy, virile meat eating men are normally between 150 and 220. So, my iron levels are down, and dropping.

So - this Wednesday just gone I got an Iron Infusion. If it doesn't perk me up enough I can get another one next week.... We'll see how that goes.

On another front, Irene found, all on her own, a car that she wanted to replace the Jetta with .... she desperately wanted a bright coloured car, and this is what she found :

Audi%20Q3%20pic%201.jpg

And we picked it up last weekend :

Audi%20pic%202.jpg

She's very happy. Now we just have to off load the manual 2013 Jetta.....

And by golly it's a good thing. And goes like a wounded cat. 2 litre turbo, all wheel drive. Will be a lot of fun.

In other news, I have changed to a contractor status at work. This is order to use up a shed load of tax credits available to me from my old shelf company, and as it turns out, my abilities in the area of HVNL (some of you will know what that means), has meant I have already picked up another client in this area. So, retirement looms in 2 - 3 years, but I'll be happy to continue to consult for a few more years after that, so long as it's by long distance from a caravan somewhere on the "long lap"...

Anyway, we have Irene's Dad's estate sale tomorrow, that will be very sad.

And the the V8's are on from a new track in SA on Sunday that will be very interesting. (Is the juxtaposition of the last 2 paragraphs right????)

And new tools are on their way here as I speak (write)..... Will show more after they get here.

(I'm still uncomfortable about the last 2 paragraphs....?)

So, sorry for the long delay, but I am busier than a nine tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs at present....

Have fun one and all!

Lyndon
Which way to bed, again? :dunno: :willy_nil ;)

I see that having access to a person with expertise in the Heavy Vehicle Nation Law arena can help a company avoid hundreds of thousands in fines. I suspect you are being paid too little but I bet you'll never be without work.

Oh boy, more tools!

Welcome back Lyndon. Would love to hear (read) more details on all fronts, but happy enough just knowing you are still alive and kicking.

PS. Couldn't see the pictures of new car.

Thank you for the update Lyndon.

Interested to see how your Iron infusion goes, all the best with that.

Congratulations on the new Audi.

Contracting or consulting is the way to go some times, we are going through what they are calling a " transformation" at work so I may just do that my self.

A familly estate sale is always a very emotional time for all.

Looking forward to the Tailem Bend races this week end..

Well I'm guessing your not pregnant ? (yes me trying to be funny :dunno:)

However I'm surprised the quack didn't see that earlier with all the poking and prodding you have had. Wifie had the infusions when pregnant so I know a little about the process. Hope it helps give you a boost though.

Must catch up again soon, have been meaning to give you a buzz to check all was well.

cheers GB

Glad to hear things are good. Nothing worse than being a quart low. Good news is, you can dress up as Ironman this Halloween.
Guess your youngest moving out is bitter sweet. Best wishes on the estate sale. Irene looks like she’ll be stylin’. Good for her.

Nice Audi... SWMBO happened to see it over my shoulder and went "That's niiiiiiiice!" :)

Better keep up the fibre rich diet too. Iron supplements are akin to taking a shot of concrete from recollection. :spit:

Going contract sounds like the best of both worlds and a lot more Saturdays in your future!

Thanks mate! Yes, my knowledge of HVNL, and the new problem coming from October 1 (called COR - Chain Of Responsibility) means I am gaining a lot of cudos from a lot of quarters, and that just makes me busier....

And maybe I am being paid too little, but when I depart the office of an afternoon I leave emails and phone calls behind, and since I'm not yet an obituary column footnote - it's all good by me!

Oh - and you should see the tools coming...... I'll show them after Fathers Day, this Sunday, as I told Irene they are her present to me..... :lol_hitti

I hope you can see them now - I think Dropbox dropped the ball for a few hours.

Steve

The iron infusion was interesting, and took some of the sting out of the fatigue. I'm having another one tomorrow, and hopefully that will start to fix the problem. We'll see.

And the V8's at Tailem Bend was interesting, though not as much as I hoped... and the Fords didn't cope very well..... My boy is now back to 2nd in the Championship.... :shocking:

And the sale was successful, if not a stressful event :

Rod

Don't leave you're day job.....

And yes, I'm surprised my rather laid back learned quack (and good friend) or the surgeon (who knew of the problem) didn't suggest it earlier either....

They only tell you as little as they think you should know.

Audi looks awesome in that colour! Hope you have some luck with the iron supplement!

Ken

Yes - the Q3 is a great colour, and those wheels are bigger than on both the XR8 or the XJR - 255/19 R40..... Go figure. But they make the car! And so do I as far as the iron iffusion goes.

Glad to hear things are good. Nothing worse than being a quart low. Good news is, you can dress up as Ironman this Halloween.

Good try - but as I said to Rod - don't leave your day job. But thanks for lookin' in!

Guster

It is very niiiice! And the boss loves it, leather seats not withstanding...

And as to the diet - well, after my little change to my insides I can't eat too much fibre - in my sort of cases it causes diverticulitis..... So my diet is small and simple. And iron supplements don't get absorbed because they pass through me before they get absorbed, hence the need for the infusions.

Good luck with the iron infusions mate, good to see you still popping in when you get the chance  New ride looks great too!

Hewey

I'm trying to keep up, but not only does GJ move very quickly, but I don't get anywhere near the amount of time I previously had to get on and read everything. I'm trying, but failing ATM.

All

And there you all go - caught up. I've had a huge day with another audit... and we are winning the battle with these guys as to how to run a compliant operation, even with 600+ employees and 160 prime movers!

All

No shed time this weekend. Enjoying a wine filled 2 nights with 9 friends at Mudgee, 3 hours west of Sydney. A magnificent 6 bedroom house, each room having an ensuite.

View from the top alfresco down into the huge kitchen & living room.

The out door top alfresco.

Of on a wine tour shortly in a bit, that finishes at the Oatley Winery, producer of my favourite tipple - Wild Oats Sav Blanc.... We have a private tasting there, & a private lunch after.... looking forward to it!

This my first post using the GJ app, so let’s hope it works.

Just a quick bump to your thread with a "Happy Birthday". Hope you're at least getting the day off !

Greg

Thanks! It's the 38th anniversary of my 21st....... :lol_hitti

And no - not a day off unfortunately, so the nose is back at the grindstone.

Happy 66th Birthday Lyndon!

Bob

66? :shocking: Not yet mate!!!
If I was that old I'd be into the 4th year of my 6 Saturday's a week routine.
