I picked this up today. It sits a lil crooked but hopefully a lil hammer action will fix that.

Here's the small welding table I picked up yesterday for $20. Top is 24" x 30" x 5/8c thick. The casters had flat spotted, luckily I had some funky stem casters that donated the wheels to get it rolling smooth again.

In the past in Ohio I think you could reserve a custom set of plates as long as you wanted. I have seen it more than once in the past, matching sets of plates spanning decades. Obviously whomever had the # had it at least from 57 til 78. I asked about more but the guy said they were in garage of house he just bought, and that was it.

The third and fourth are an early pair of pliers that I don’t know much about.
-Don

Got to love Unbrako hex keys!

That side cutter pliers seems to be part of the Armorer's Tool Kit, if they're 6" long.

Picked up the McMaster-Carr Bible from work during a maintenance department 6S morning/moving day.

Picked up the rest at a random sale with "tool sale" painted on some plywood on the drive home.

This was 30 minutes of digging. Could have spend hours there and plan to drive by again this week to see if he is open again.

This Sarvie Tool Co. pliers was in there. Never heard of it and grew up in the area.

Great finds guys!

An Amber speeder!

Love the old farm truck!

For me it wasn't a stellar day, but it wasn't terrible either. I started a bit late as I was pouring JB Weld epoxy into some compromised aluminum tube ends to give them something I can attach hinges to again on the trailer project.

I also gassed up both DD rigs and had the happy news that the mileage on mine is up 15%; so fixing the EGR was a plus!

Once on the road:

A few blocks away had this lantern, a home brew wood case, funnel and 7 packs of mantles. the lantern is a very common 220J 2 mantle, unfortunately the (original) globe is cracked. I'll super glue that, and make sure the thing runs right, and store it for emergency use, or give it to someone for that purpose. For $2 it was worth it for the mantles and funnel!

attachment.php

Same place had these gaiters and a camo handkerchief - I believe the gaiters are European Military :dunno:

attachment.php

Next two stops were socket city! I got two baggiesat a TOO for $3 each, one had all SO, the other all but two SK.

The second socket stop had the front row for $2 ea, I offered eight and they took it. Proto impacts and CM; all Metric, as were most of the SO.

attachment.php

The second to last stop had these planes; a Bailey with a couple of 1902 patent dates, and a label scraper is what I think we ID'ed the hinge handle plane as a few years back

attachment.php

They also had this BB gun. I thought it was a toy gun is was so cheaply made, but it is a shooter, if the most crudely built BB gun I've ever seen! smallest too! its about a foot shorter than the average BB gun!

To load it you **** it with the lever; AND DROP A BB DOWN THE BARREL! :wtf:

attachment.php

What is cool is it's association with the Kadets of America! Anyone remember them? they still had the remnants of a Kadet Corps when I was in high school.

I actually got a Kadet Trainer rifle as well. Kinda strange we both acquired these at the same time as I have never seen one before. I do not believe mine was ever meant to shoot and it does not even have a barrel or action of any sort. Still interesting though and for $1 I couldn’t leave it behind.

Stopped by one sale today, and found two dozen Brown Grolsch swingtops $4, wife found a couple of planter bases $2, and then got the grand finale for me and my 5yo...

A 50cc dirtbike and a Bridgestone BC 50 Sport. Total for both? $10!!! The dirtbike turns over, the bridgestone does want to move, but the key and clutch handle are missing so maybe it wont release until engaged? Either way, fun project.

We just got 8.5 acres outside Denver a couple weeks ago, so great start!

Awesome finds guys! I love that vise table Outlaw! The wall safe and military cabinets are cool too. Too many cool things to mention, you guys are rocking!

Nothing from any sales here, I just picked up a Milwaukee Hackzall from 5miles though.

So I had nothing lined up on Friday (spent the day before painting house trim) and knew of a good looking sale a couple hours away. Well, once I checked it looked like there was another in the same area, so off I went. But, that two-hour drive turned into a four-hour drive...

In any case, here is what I got at the first sale, for $32
nbtbf6.jpg

Plomb speeder, P&C long extension and Plomb LA DBE (good sized one!)
30248lk.jpg

Herbrand and P&C ignition wrenches, Cornwell wobble 1/2" adaptor, P&C 4" adjustable and a long c Craftsman drill angle gauge.
2r3yw6g.jpg

Blue Point bushing driver kit, Starrett and B&S depth micrometers and then this metal box:
xpx83r.jpg

Containing this
w6xpxg.jpg

Which was kinda wierd, as the box is Proto LA but all the peices are Proto MFD. So, right on the cusp I am guessing. Then it was off to the next stop.

The next sale had looked really promising, and I bet that it was in the morning. But I didn't get there until about 2 pm and it was pretty ransacked. The guy had been an organ mechanic, so there were lots of weird bits and bobs around but I only picked up the following for $5
2dvk76a.jpg

A Millers Falls clamp on and a nice chisel handle. And I picked up this old tool box because I saw some goodies in it
117r68n.jpg

Along with some vintage electrical stuff I can use (old plugs, alligator clips, etc) I found the following
2v199hl.jpg

Nothing too special, but some interesting duck bills, SpinType drivers, woodies and this

Was working today. Stopped at a yard sale on the way to work and found the following:
1/2 and 3/8 Craftsman V ratchets
13mm Craftsman VA wrench (forgot that I had this size in V already - I needed a 10mm)
Vintage Craftsman cutters
Right lower side is all SK sockets (including one SK Wayne), diamond 1/4 breaker bar, green handle driver,
Right above it a large Snap ON screwdriver
To the right of it - my first MAC tools (2 sockets)
To the left are Snap On sockets
Blackhawk vise grips
to the left of it - no name handle for taps
a completely stuck Craftsman ratcheting screwdriver (I need to think what to do with this one first. May be a long bath in Evaporust?)
And to the left is Walworth 6" adjustable
Also some random taps, tap holder and hexagonal armstrong armalloy.
Sorry for crappy pic of uncleaned tools. Just too tired from work. Sockets need an evaporust bath. Couple of Snap Ons though probably rusted through the chrome...

... $20

If you are talking about the offset driver between the adjustable and the vise grips, that doesn't ratchet...

Thank you, BMWRD0. Guessed wrong on this tool - I thought there were some similar models that did and decided to grab it out of the pile... Oh well - cant win them all : )

It looks like the screwdriver pieces on the sides are made of different metal and go through cubic parts on the end of the main body - just tried to push it a little, it moved a hair with some noise and got stuck...

i could use it if its untouched original. mine is 19 1/4"
x 3 1/2" tall, rusted thru on bottom left, barely seen in this photo.

I guess they came in different sizes. Mine is 18-1/4"" X 3-1/4". (3/4 T trucks must have had a bigger hood)

So the Estate sale from last Sunday that was so good was on again this Sunday. Yep, I went back!

The got the car out so it was easier to get around the garage, and they had a ladder and that also helped, despite being picked over last week (mostly by me...)

Not as much this time, and no big items, but still worth the dig.

tambourine for the instrument collection, Tape Dispenser, a brass vase and pin for SWMBO,

attachment.php

Hoppes shotgun cleaning kit, half can of Goof-Off, Fain-X, a couple of brackets for 1" tubing:

attachment.php

Swiss Tech folding Key chain pliers - these have wire cutters a crimper, and 2 bit in each handle for Ph2, 0, and blade; Clamps, Drafting Pencils, two Sthil chain saw blades (14" hoping this may fit my chain saw) and do not pollute tags:

attachment.php

Swiss made Felco pruners (these are bloddy expensive!) Diamond 12" water pump pliers, 2 SK Wayne combos, Nupla plastic face hammer, Blackhawk brake tool (anyone into Blackhawk?) Craftsman vise grips, another clamp.

attachment.php

And a 50 cal ammo box. I have a lot of ammo box's but this is the first side opener! and in really good shape!

attachment.php

More from a different Yard sale coming:

The other yard sale was advertised for camping, but nothing I was interested in:

I did find and bring home yet another rusty cruddy old carry box...

attachment.php

This was Why!

attachment.php

A closeup:

attachment.php

It also had one of the support arms, off the rivet it pivots on, but I got that fed back in and peened so its on again so the tray actually moves without locking up.

I also got some Sisal rope:

attachment.php

and some hardware and a small SO driver; the hardware is all SS except for the elevator bolts - 19 of them (in the back box) some half 1/4" pan heads, some 3/8 socket head, an the box to the left is completly ful of #8 binding head screws, eight pounds of them! the tin of Kester soldering paste was cool, so it came as well.

attachment.php

And my son swung by with a 6 gallon Rubbermaid water jug. Nice small foot print, has the vent and two hand grips, so I like this for camping. His future father-in law was getting rid of 5 of these So he took two, I took one and a friend of his took two.

Wow. I'm gone a week on vacay and I'm 200 posts behind....great job, all!

Driving back with my daughter today from southern Vermont. We took back roads all the way. We passed a number of garage sale signs, but didn't turn off for any of them, as I assumed they were from Saturday. However, I spied a sale right on the main road through the town we were in that made me jump on the brakes. There was a motorcycle for sale and tables of what looked like tools.

Not much to choose from, but I asked for a price on the winch and was told "$50, but the owner will probably take $40." Once he confirmed by phone, I pulled my last two twenties out of my wallet and put it in the trunk.

It is a Polaris 3500-lb winch with mounting bracket, cables and two remotes. I don't own an ATV, but I figure I can use it in the garage in some way, or I'll just flip it.

This is what I got from that sale in Buffalo that WNYflyer and I were discussing.

An offset/straight Bonney wrench, torch tip cleaner (which I can actually use) and one of those striker things where you hold it against something and whack the other end with a BFH. Anyone know what these are called?

And from a random sale close to home, a 50 year old NOS roll of teflon tape.

Good News! My son just turned 3 and we are having him go to a Montessori School starting in October. I just found this! Coolest kid in school (unless some kid shows up with an A-Team lunchbox)!

Found a few things yesterday:

Propane torch box, a little rough, but straight, nothing some sanding and paint will not correct. Ten cents.

Old Stanley block plane, $1

"Star" box for a power hammer type gun (Ramset). Should suit my (Weller) soldering gun and supplies. Very heavy and straight. $2.

3/8" Husky speeder, U.S. made #CB85. Fifty cents.

A combo nail puller and hammer. Thought it might have been a shop project, but it shows forging marks and is stamped "ETF" which might be that long gone tool co. in St. Catharines (ONT). Ten cents.

I left a few things behind, three large Gray wrenches, 1 1/8, and (2) 1 1/4" all for $1 each. And a larger Beach carry box for $2. The Grays were the real deal and not the Maple Leaf cheapies but, were rusty and the plating was peeling. Probably should have taken them, could have used them for trades.

And some weird shears that I'll show in another post.

A pair of weird shears. They are marked "Ed Wustof Solingen" with the double dots over the "U". And there is a three prong devil's fork above it.

Anyone recognize these? I paid ten cents and was thinking of using the spring on my metal strapping cutter, but a bit too big for that. Kind of curious to their actual purpose....seller had no clue. They cut paper and cardboard just fine.

one of those striker things where you hold it against something and whack the other end with a BFH. Anyone know what these are called?
That looks like a blacksmith's punch to me, dk. Punches came in different sizes (diameters), on the ends of handles just like that. If you're thinking of blacksmith's fullers and flatters, they came on the ends of handles, too, but they are more round and wedge shaped (kinda like dollies).

Coolest kid in school (unless some kid shows up with an A-Team lunchbox)!
 Nice snag!

lilredex: I don't know what that is, some kind of specialty cutter, but Solingen is a town in Germany world renown for cutting tools, especially knives. Some of the most highly desirable hunting knives with stag horn handles come from Solingen.
