The tracks on Andy's loader might have improved the weight and further lowered the center of gravity. Definitely looks like fun trying to not get stuck.

Also have more ground clearance, which is noticeable. The increased radius flat track sections also make for a longer ground contact which deducts significantly from the tendency to rock fore and aft.

I have a similar set of over the tire tracks and it is very fun trying not to get stuck but once you do it's all over

I haven't stuck mine and have been 18" deep in wet spots, having to push back with whatever implement I had on, usually a tree cutter or grapple. Without the implement I would have been stuck several times.

Today Dad and I went somewhere I've wanted to go for quite some time. That would be the Big Iron Farm Show in West Fargo, ND !!! It is sprawled over a very large area and it seemed as if anyone who was anyone in the AG industry was there. Everyone from John Deere and Case IH to small local based welding shops selling skid loader attachments and shop built farm equipment.

This is looking in from the entrance gate ....


A quick left turn gets you into the ACME tools building. There were some SERIOUS show sales going on. Such as, buy an M18 chainsaw get a FREE 12ah battery and build your own 3pc DeWalt 60v Max kit with bare tools and get a charger and TWO 6ah batteries for free !!


The buy of the day for me though was a 20v DeWalt grease gun kit for $149. I got Dad one a while back and to say it's awesome is an understatement.


Brand new can't buy it yet Case IH 9250 combine. Just a monster. Class 9 550hp with a 410bu grain tank


The 150 series can be ordered with a retro paint scheme going back to the first axial-flow machines put out by IH. This 6150 was looking extra sharp !!


Not really sure why it was sitting off in the back by itself but this is the first Steiger Douglass Steiger and his Dad John built in 1957. Steiger #1 that began it all. This thing was WAY ahead of its time. It was built in the era of the Farmall 450 which was a small row crop machine.


This right here is the largest AG tire being produced today. It weighs in at a whopping 1572lbs, stands 83" tall, has a 46" diameter rim that is 50" wide and has a 32,000lb max weight capacity. Good grief ....


Once we got back home I went to work loading some more totes of scrap lumber. I've already cut up and loaded 6 full ones so far.


I really don't know why it took so long for me to figure out it might, just maybe, go faster if I used the skid loader


I set two totes side by each and dumped into them. Good gravy it was much faster than loading them by hand !!!

I always wondered why the fenders on the early Stiegers were so wide. On the later barn tractors they thickened them considerably most likely to provide extra ballast weight.

I saw multiple golf carts loaded to the max with red and yellow boxes. I think one guy bought one of everything, his golf cart didn't have room for more than the driver on it and he walked beside it carrying another red box. Just bonkers.

That 6150 looks fantastic painted up like a 1440/1460/1480! I was 10 years old in 1978 when IH introduced the Axial-Flow line. My dad was the service manager/main tech at the local IH dealer, and I remember very well the first one they got in. It was a 1440, and I thought it was about the biggest piece of machinery I had ever seen. Now, park a 1440 next to the 9150 and see how big it looks.

We purchased the first 2144 the same dealer sold almost 20 years later and still have it. I think it's time to find a nice 5088 or 2588. 200bu corn and a 6 row head sure do make it grunt !!!

Did you Dad have any neat dealer special stuff from back in the day ?? Toys, tools and such ??

It looks like we'll be close to 200 average this year. There are always spots that go well North of 200 according to the yield monitor. Never seem 300 yet but I've seen 280 a few times for a few seconds !!

Yup. Those are the tires on the bus. There's so much mud stuck in between them right now it looks as if it's one large tire. It's gonna make a hell of a mess when I drive it and it all comes flying out !!

Oh look a pile of ****. That is the pile of ************ we took out of the barn when we cleaned it out last week. Well, that and a little more that got dumped by the compost pile so I'd have something to throw on the recently passed away chickens.

Dad cleaned the steer barn out yesterday and this is what one clean-out looks like in the stacking slab. I guess it is now officially the "**** Shack"

I FINALLY got done putting all my scrap wood into totes for the winter. 12 4'x4'x4' cubes of scrap lumber. Good grief. Each one is enough for a little under a week to heat my little shop so I'm set for a while at least !!

A few weeks back I purchased a manure spreader at an auction. Yeah I didn't tell y'all because I wanted to get it washed up and fixed up before I showed it to the world

The old beater paddles were in pretty tough shape and worn badly .... I guess you can probably figure out what's coming next as the old paddles are laying on a pile

Spendy little guys at $31 each and there are 16 of them New paddles as well as a new bearings for the top beater and the spreader itself put me just over $9,000 for a Meyers MS435 that is 3yrs old. I'm VERY happy with that as it's easily worth $12,000 and a new one today is $23,500 !!!

Good auction find too! I have fond memories of helping replace the floor and apron in a similar size spreader as a teenager. If you aren't lucky enough to have a barn cleaner to repair, working on the spreader is definitely the best way to cure someone of squeamishness.

Well I don't have a barn cleaner like you're imagining but I do work on a fair number of Lely Discovery's at work. Little robotic manure scraper's that seem to break down once in a while. Of course they are manure from tip to tail and require extensive cleaning before you can work on them.

I'll gladly work on the Discovery's or a barn cleaner chain before I volunteer to work on the check valves on the bottom of a ram pump system

When I ordered new paddles I didn't ask how much they were because why would they be that expensive, I mean they are a basic piece of flat steel with four holes. I about filled my shorts when I picked them up and the guy gave me the total. I actually asked him how many were in the box and that I only needed one set

Lots of stuff happened on Sunday !!!

I went out to do chores and was greeted with water running down the driveway. I got up to the barn and saw that the waterer plug was removed. I'm pretty sure the steer in the center right did it. Doesn't that look like a "Don't look over here, nothing to see, no one to blame" face to you as well ???


I had a moment of genius of how to determine if the bus had bad gas or something else was going on. I stuck the supply line into a gas can and it ran like a champ. I'm pretty sure it's always had old gas as it sounds great and runs out nicely. The bus is so happy it even looks like it is smiling

Every fall in Albany, MN Pioneer Days comes alive with more old tractors/trucks/equipment than you've ever seen in one place. This is looking down machinery hill at about 10% of the property.

They have a parade of any and all tractors that want to participate. It took almost two hours for them all to go by this year !!! Really is something to see !!!


Oliver 2255 serial number 683. The very last Oliver 2255 of the line. It's got a Cat 3208 Diesel that puts out 150hp and is owned by my neighbor. It's their 2nd largest tractor and was the largest Oliver at Pioneer Days this year.


This is an old tractor. Yeah, they're not my specialty but it was one of the larger old oil pull tractors here. Here is a link to something similar. Damn neat.

After we had our fill of Pioneer Days we decided to go play with our own equipment.


Oh look, a wagon full of soybeans !!!


Pops combining the first field of Soybeans of the season. We were able to combine 66 acres total on Sunday and the beans were between 8.7% and 10.1% moisture .... too dry actually ....


Don't really look like 55bu/acre beans but they are !!


Unloading the first load of the season through a brand new Westfield MKX 100-73 auger !!!


Just when you start having fun the tractor starts throwing codes. STOP IT !! This one points to a dirty fuel filter so should be an easy fix ...



The well informed weather guy said it was going to rain on Monday so we went until 11:30PM or so to get the field we were in done. The lights on the 7630 are pretty sweet !!


The ones on the combine aren't bad either. We need to throw some LED's on there to really light things up!!

The density of people wearing denim overalls is very high. Lots of handlebar mustache's as well and beards that are so long and bushy they could smuggle a kindergardener into a movie theater. I was seriously considering taking and posting a picture of every tractor and neat thing there but I think Ryan's servers would puke and I do not want to be known as the guy who killed GJ.

Yesterday I had the pleasure (misfortune?) of upgrading a PC that runs a GEA calf feeder. I knew I was in for a good time when I saw the keyboard ....


The customer said it kept overheating so he took off the cover. It didn't take long and it wouldn't boot anymore. Gee. I wonder why


I pulled the hard drive and used a fancy dandy USB <-> SATA adapter dealio and got the info off I needed to install the new PC. Although it looks like spots of black pepper on everything it isn't .... shocker !!


Today I worked at a much cleaner place. We installed another 60 stall robotic GEA ProQ Rotary parlor and are finishing up some odds and ends. This setup is their old wash vat/milk filter/plate cooler setup for a double 18 parlor.


This is the new plate cooler/milk filter setup. The insulated lines are 3" lines that run to the chiller outside to bring in chilled glycol to cool the milk. The exposed copper lines are 3" water lines that bring well water in to help cool the milk and the 2" SS lines are what the milk is flowing through. It's a hell of a setup and the milk is cooled down to 35-38F when it leaves the plate cooler and goes directly into a tanker outside.



On the home front I got some plumbing done. I can now feed the hose with unfiltered water. The cool pad has it's own filter as well as a water meter now so I know how much water it uses. No real reason I want to know how much it uses other than I had the meter so why not ??

New chicks come tomorrow at noon if anyone is interested in helping

Dad is spreading the PLT (poultry litter treatment) which helps reduce the amount of ammonia in the bedding.


We got everything ready in the chicken barn and went over to Dad's place to check a few maintenance items off the list. First the 7630 needed new fuel filters to try and get rid of the "fuel pressure not as expected" code that is thrown when it is under a load.


Super simple/no tools replacement. Other than being messy it is nice and easy

The aluminum rivets that hold it together get pounded out with a chisel and the old pad comes right off. They are a simple design that needs a rivet punch to install. The punch forces the center through and it flares the end out holding it all in place. Now you know how a rivet works


Just about all have been replaced but a few originals remain. Seems like a couple a year wear through.


The steers need bedding every 3-4 days and that was yesterday. A pair of 4x5' round corn straw bales work well.


If you can't tell we were killing time waiting for the beans to be ready to combine. They weren't ready as of 4pm so probably not going to be any dryer for the rest of the day. Off to cut grass !!


The cage I built to bring the carts of baby chicks into the barn needed a few modifications. I never welded straps under the rear where the pallet forks go in so the first time it was used it just about tipped forward and dumped the chicks out !!! Not good. A couple pieces of scrap did the trick nicely.

Mike, I love your thread and even though I'll never have to do a lot of what you do, I am often inspired. Now I'm wondering if I can put a giant Variable Gate Turbo on my PT Cruiser. My granddaughter is impressed by the '87 Corvette but blown away by the Cadillac CTS-V. The PT Cruiser has been upgraded but that don't impress her much.

When we first emigrated from the UK my dad took a job as a farm manager. As a young kid, we'd often hang out with him while he did a bunch of farm stuff. I really loved it. Even today, I love farms and all they represent. Hard work, yields, and ingenuity. Fast forward 40 years, living in a city, I miss those days.
