I know what I prefer; how about if you had to replace all your markers with just one brand? revmark or mke?
Yeah, I don't know yet. I like the Inkzall's in the shop because they write on just about anything but those RevMark's are amazing at work because most of what I do there is writing on cabling ....

I already tried putting a Inkzall in the RevMark cap and it doesn't fit very nicely :lol_hitti

I'll wear a few of each out and get back to you .....

After a bit of discussion about how to feed the additional cattle in the new barn addition it was decided to add an 8x16' feed room to the North. I don't know how to describe what will go in there so I'll just post some pictures once it's done. We dug out some dirt and put in some nice fill to prep that area for concrete.
30589888388_13bd5b1574_z.jpg

Today Dad asked me what I wanted to do with all the silo staves.

Me - "What do you have planned for the day?"
Dad - "Dunno. What do you have in mind?"
Me - "Let's put the silo staves along the East side of the chicken barn so I can mow up to them instead of banging into the tin all the time."
Dad - "I should have stayed home"

I loaded up three pallets and a couple partials and away we went.
30589888438_8003c7966e_z.jpg

We got the entire barn done but I don't have any pictures of that yet. When we were done we were both so exhausted that we went into the control room to cool off and have a few beers.

We had a couple junk waterbeds at work I was told to throw away so I threw them away right under the fans. They are around 1/2" thick rubber and should keep the weeds down forever under the fans.

Great use of those staves and rubber mats. How are the chickens doing? Not sure it would be counter productive, but you could probably hide some of the concrete in the drainage ditch assuming it doesn't restrict the flow.

I was wondering what you were gonna do with that silo concrete
I wanted to put them on the North side of the steer barn when it was built but the silo was still standing ....

Then I thought the North side of the hayshed when it went up but the silo was still standing ....

Then we knocked it down and did the math and they'd all be used up in the East side of the chicken coop. It was an incredible amount of work but turned out nice. I shouldn't have to touch them ever again and that's how I like to do things, once.

That actually came up as an idea but we went this way instead. The chickens are doing very well. This is the happiest and healthiest flock so far !!

This thread is part of my morning routine, thank you so much!!! Congrats on the Subi
Mama Bear is quite excited for a new/larger car.

X3!!!!

You know what Subaru is spelled backwards, right? U r a bus. :lol_hitti

Looking forward to seeing how your new feed room comes along.
I told Mama Bear about the Subaru backwards thing and she didn't laugh, which is fine because I laughed enough for both of us :lol_hitti

I'm also looking forward to seeing how the feed room turns out. I have a rough idea in my head but nothing for sure yet. I do know that I want it to hold a week's worth of feed in 3-4 hoppers. It'll be build out or wood (or maybe iron who knows yet) and have a simple overhead auger to bring the feed in. Lots of stuff undecided as of yet :headscrat

Andy says you'd better make it out of iron. Cause that's what Old Iron Farmers' do!

Well the chickens are getting loaded out at 5:45am Friday morning which means I need to be in the barn at 10pm and 1ish am and 4ish am to do things. I figured it was as good a time as any to bring the bus out by the barn so I could sleep in it instead of waking the family up three times.

Sooooo the bus isn't running quite right and I'm pretty sure the culprit is old gas. That being said, it lacked the power to run though the field like it should have and got miserably mired in the muck. I'd be fine with it being here but it's at such a dumb angle that I don't think I'd be able to sleep in it this way ...

I could have dug it in farther but gave up before it got in too far :lol_hitti

Never used the tow hooks before but I'm sure they've seen their fair share of use being as it was a rural route bus back in the 80's.

Johnny on the spot with the post there Mr. ABSTIFFGS.

The "Wise old man" aka my Dad, is also an oldironfarmer so I'm sure it won't take much convincing and he'll be on board with making it out of iron. I think once we see the space we can fill up with bins it'll come together. We both have a few ideas and we both think our own ideas are best so we'll see what happens.

Good thing you blocked that lisence plate. I'm sure nobody within 3 square miles would ever recognize it.
Just on Quaker Road alone there are six, yes six, camper buses that call Quaker Road home. One neighbor has two painted up in Budweiser colors, one Vikings themed bus, one goofy *** rainbow ordeal, one nice boring white Dodge from the 50's and my 77' GMC named Fergus. Although I have the only blue one (it's a DuPont spec'd Bud Lite Blue BTW) it might get missed in the crowd :lol_hitti

Tried the 4-wheeler than the 95' Ford farm truck, then my 884 and said screw it. Dad came over with 7630 and pulled it out of the muck. The 7630 scratched a bit until it got moving so the bus was in there pretty good !!

Do you have an air conditioner in there? This heat is so bad and I can't imagine your leaving windows open due to the skeeters. Good luck with getting the stale gas issue sorted.

We have a 12k BTU portable A/C that vents out through the floor. It takes the edge off and keeps the humidity down quite nicely !!

I custom made window screens for it a few years ago. I hold them onto the outside of the bus windows with SS cow magnets.

I can't believe I didn't think of it sooner but I'm going to put the supply line from the fuel pump into a gas can with fresh gas sitting in the ground and see what it does. It's an old school pump with no return line so it should fire up and run like a champ if the problem is indeed bad gas. If so, I think I'm going to purchase a new Al fuel cell so it's clean and I can drain it each fall before it goes bad.

I think you need to install a lift kit on it, along with some good off road tires to keep R running thru all that muck!

Monster truck tires! YAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSS!

LOL, yes it does!

Absolutely!
I think a big lift kit and some monster truck tires would be AWESOME !!

Good thing my wife doesn't check this thread. Without saying anything about the monster truck tires to her I can already feel "The Look" burning holes in my skull.

That blue bus needs a nameplate: "I am a bus". To go along with u r a bus. :D
I've looked into getting a clear plate with "Fergus" to put above the windshield where it used to say school bus but it's way too expensive for what it is.

I could get a Subaru sticker, put it inside a window so it reads backwards and put a "Me Too" sticker under it outside the window :lol_hitti

Maybe you can just double up the tires for more traction? Burning holes bad. Happy wife good.
The bus already has dual rear tires. They are pretty bald though and are rather caked with mud at the moment !!!
44561672591_39aacf45f4_z.jpg

Even with tires with some grip I think I'd have gotten stuck. The picture doesn't do the muddy ruts justice !!

This morning I went to hop in the skid loader and the front right tire was flat. WTF?!?! There was a sizable screw that had wedged itself into the tire and was causing issues.
43843371584_09c429f821_b.jpg

Once washed off I removed the screw and used my handy dandy Amazon special tubeless tire repair kit and the various apparatuses that came with it to make the hole much smaller.

Remember when you used to beg your Mom to buy you a pack of baseball cards at the grocery store so you could chew the Big League Chew that came with it ?? This plug looks just like that stuff once it's all chewed up.
44512147282_de76195b48_z.jpg

Four flocks have been through the barn and various items are getting too dirty for my liking. This is one of the interior cool cell curtains. Gross. Just gross. Chickens are filthy, stinky, fowl little creatures that seem to make everything dirty and smell like them. They sure do taste good covered in Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce though ......
44512147192_abf9c1a656_b.jpg

Er maw garwsh this looks SOOOOOO much better !!!!!
44512147032_55124b18dc_b.jpg

The bedding in the barn is sort of soft and a bit squishy and when it is even remotely wet it becomes a sink hole. The Housekeeper is built VERY heavy and likes to turn itself into a plow every chance it gets. The poor little 884 doesn't have enough weight to drag it though and I end up stopping, backing up, filling in the rut and hoping it'll pop out. It only seems to happen during the closest pass by the walls but it is INCREDIBLY annoying as it makes a nasty mess.

My 773 had solid tires on it when I got it. I've never missed fixing flats on it.

Side curtains look nice! Cleaning didn't help stick the Housekeeper, did it?:bounce:

Saw a list years ago of why I like to be a farmer. High on the list was "I like getting stuck". You've had a nice week being able to get stuck twice.

well if i'm gona keep suggesting stuff i might as well do it in here:

https://www.tireject.com/

works great for tires big n small. expensive but i'll be damned if it don't work.
I don't know dude, something about enlarging a hole in a tire and jamming something in it seems to speak to me :lol_hitti

I've used the green junk before and although it works pretty good for smaller holes it is a damned nightmare to reuse that rim ever again. It takes a hot pressure washer to clean the **** off. If this stuff works and truly cleans up with water like they says it does it's worth every penny !!

So far you've cost me $12 for pens (that I love) so what's another $35 to try something else :lol_hitti

It's one of those products you hope goes bad sitting on the shelf because it doesn't need to be used .....

I'm gonna order some and I'll gladly report back when it gets used.

I wouldn't mind having solid tires but most of them ride so rough you can feel every little bump and rut. Never fixing another skidder tire would be nice though !!

I didn't realize just how dirty the curtains were until I started washing them. My goodness. The Housekeeper getting stuck was near the cool cell curtains but not where I soaked the bedding washing them off. Dad took out all the bedding within 20' of the cool cells because it had gotten quite saturated the last flock.

I had LOTS of help today feeding the steers. Leo kept pushing the broom into nothing and getting mad when it hit something. Alyssa was marching around the barn singing "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" and Lily was busy naming all of the cattle. Lots of them are now named Moana, Maui, Hey Hey and Moana's Dad. You'll never guess what movie they've been stuck on for the last month .....
44535302272_17e0e8557f_z.jpg

My parents stopped by this afternoon and Dad and Alyssa checked the hay to see if it was dry.

Grandpa - Alyssa see how it's still green on the bottom ? That means it's not dry yet.
Alyssa - Yeah Grandpa, only the top stuff is dry, it's really wettish on the bottom yet.
Grandpa - It doesn't seem like it'll be ready to bale tomorrow does it ?
Alyssa - Grandpa, the top stuff is dry, I just said that. You could bale that tomorrow.
44535302332_d2e8883950_z.jpg

They checked the corn next and Alyssa flat out refused to walk in the taller grass/alfalfa because it tickled her feet too much. :lol_hitti
44535302362_fe6c2724be_z.jpg

Both these cobs came off some pretty crappy looking stalks. Counting the kernels and doing the math puts the yield a little over 200bu/a if they all look like these two do.

I really can't tell the solid with perforations from pneumatic as far as comfort at highway speeds.
Do you have this style non-air tire ??
solid-cushion-tire-category.jpg

I was imagining a solid piece of rubber with no flex what-so-ever !!! I've driven a skid loader with Michelin Tweels and wowser, that was a nice riding machine. At almost $5k/set of 4 it better be nice though !!

Looks like a great time and excellent education for the kids!

My tires look like that (or would have when new), but they are McLaren. I think a set can be had for $2,500.

I've since added over the tire tracks and love them.

attachment.php

I about can't get it stuck with the tracks and they add front/rear stability (which surprised me).

The tracks on Andy's loader might have improved the weight and further lowered the center of gravity. Definitely looks like fun trying to not get stuck. :lol_hitti
