Is This A Good Deal (Drill Press)?

I need a drill press and have been considering the 10" Wen for $125.00. Yes I am poor. I just ran across an add in Craigs List for a Buffalo FDM-16SP(GP) for $75.00. It says needs work but runs good. Looks like there is some medium to light rust.

The tag says it is 5/8, MT. #2, 1990, 3/4 hp, made in Taiwan. It is a floor standing unit.

Is this a good deal or should I stick with the Wen?

Most of the Taiwanese DP's from that era are pretty good, especially if it has the following features:

--Middle pulley for slow speeds
--Crank operated table
--Built-in light

I used a similar press like that many years ago and it ran very smooth. Definitely consider it if the bearings are good and the rust is not too bad. If it looks somewhat like my pic it should be a good DP (but clearly avoid bent/overloaded lift rack, and use a smaller bulb that fits into the head properly).

^^^Agree. It'll be much better then a 10" Wen assuming the "needs work" is cosmetic or minor repair.

Agree with the Taiwan made stuff, comments. Last year I found an early model of HF #38142 for $40 that needed a motor and pulley, which I had on hand. Really happy with it and its slowest speed of around 220 RPM.

$75 seems like a good deal. I’ve been looking for a standing unit and haven’t seen any under $150, while most are over $200.

I'd say good deal too. I've been wanting a floor model too and can't find a used one to save my life!!!
