Here is my $25 splurge from yesterday. [emoji16]
Might make an interesting winter project. A homelite 7-19. I believe these have around an 80cc engine. I do know, they are LOUD! 5a1ab54916291cdb47ba059bcab28399.jpg

Light tool buying weekend at the garage sales. Managed to pick up a Craftsman socket set, USA made with the single detents. A 1" Gearwrench ratcheting wrench that I've never seen before and a HF breaker bar....

Went to a fall car swap with Smokeshadow and Rileysan yesterday, enjoying the fall weather just before the rain (there was even a woman selling pumpkins!) I manange to pick up a few things, though not as much as those two tool vacuums!
2rh8w84.jpg

A fiber Bell System B technicians case (I used to be a phone man) marked Smith. Filled with useless junk, it was $10. I will put most of my phone stuff in it (not my climbing gear)
35jxhya.jpg

A Belden electrical connection set for another $10 and a Platt repairmans briefcase for $20, that was full of tools! Must have weight 50 pounds.
2q3td7c.jpg

Snap-on, Proto, Indestro and SK metric, a Par-X ratchet and peices... the list goes on of what was in there (there was also a Pittsburg set of impacts, and other stuff I wasn't interested in.)

Deals from the last month or so:

20 drawer Lyon blueprint stack; I paid $40 for this and only because the asking price was $30 and the guy didn't have change. The catch was that these were on the second floor and I had to do all of the transporting. Wasn't fun but well worth it.

Two 10 drawer Jebco card files, All Steel standing cabinet; free from a school that was remodeling. This was after weeks of giving things away, apparently. Wish I'd learned of it sooner.

Wilton C0 vise; a bit rougher than I imagined but it was $40 along with the vintage AerVoid "Thermal Liquid Carrier". This was from the same place where I got the Coleman items and pullers, but didn't have a grinder to remove the vise at the time. The transmission jack was picked up next door in a trash pile.

Tifco four drawer parts cabinet / organizer with electrical bits and nuts / bolts, Wilton 1750 Tradesman, Ridgid C-36 chain wrench, Klein Grip It strap wrench; $80 at an estate sale.

Milwaukee M18 12.0 battery; $85 on FB marketplace

I've seen a few of these blueprint cabinets around, but never thought they'd be able to hold the weight of a drawer full of wrenches and open smoothly if at all. What's their load rating?

Dutch I haven't seen many of your posts get a lot responses but I appreciate you posting. I find it interesting to see what brands of tools are native to the UK and what US tools make their way across the pond. Thanks for posting.

Thanks, I haven't posted as many finds this year and I have been more picky in what I have bought, but have still picked up some good stuff.

Let's see the padlock :D

Its a Squire stronghold ss50c, the current version in that size is about £50 new, 3/8" dia shackle, body is approx 3" by 2" by 1". A nice quality small padlock, and really not bad for a pound, I did have to take it apart and clean the dirt out to make it work well.

I don't know the load rating on the drawers, but, paper is heavy.
Specially full size sheets big enough to fit the drawer, stacked full.
I really doubt the drawers can be overloaded.
Although I wouldn't pack them full of lead weights.

You did well in the face of such adverse picking conditions bmw and it was good seeing you again as well as those tool vacuums...:) Those two do know how to sniff out the good stuff and I would say GJ members were very well represented at that swap meet. For my small part I was able to glean a few interesting items. A few pics below. Of note was a nice WW2 era airplane mooring kit picked up for $16, a neat Quick Way ratcheting torque wrench for $5, and an old clothes wringer for $35 that I tried hard to walk past. A couple drill indexes and a few Oil cans / bottles rounded out my meager but satisfying haul. Ed.

Picked up this BEAST today
Wilton 9-600. It's in exceptional condition. Jaws have very strong checkering and even got the rear cap. I drove 4 hours round trip to get it, call me crazy but the price was cheap! I'll be doing a restoration thread. So if anyone had pics of the original color please share looks like a green shade from what's left on the vise. This thing was really heavy has to be a foot tall and at least 2 feet long?

Did you see the name of that company, Ed? LOL. I know it's popular for companies from all over the country to incorporate in Delaware for the tax breaks, but it's funny to see "Delaware" as part of the corporate name when the other part of the corporate name is a city as identifiably Midwest as "Cedar Rapids"!

What's the latest patent on that Kwik-Way torker dial, Ed? Can't read it. See pic. They had $404,000 worth of US Army Air Corps and US Army Ordnance Dept contracts for tools during WWII.

I looked at the airplane mooring kit, but had no idea what it was and the Vacuums were moving quick, so no time to check it out. It was good to see you too.

Here are a couple more pics of the Kwik-way including one of the case Lugz. I didn't see anything other markings on it except for what's on the dial. I did see one on the bay they were dating to 36'. I picked it up because I have a bit of Kwik way valve tooling. Ed.

I keep forgetting to ask about these dikes: does anyone recognize the manufacturer from the basket-weave forged grip pattern? If there was a stamp on the pivot, it’s obliterated by multiple *****-punch marks.

How can I repair this 3/4” SK sliding t-bar? One of the balls is missing. The single remaining ball just rolls freely end it end. Seems there should be another captive ball in there and perhaps a little spring in between them? How does one get the parts and then repair this? Thank you!IMG_6603.jpgIMG_6604.jpgIMG_6605.jpgIMG_6606.jpg

Not sure where they're getting that from, unless it was a different torque wrench, Ed. The Cedar Rapids Engineering assignor applied for the first patent on the dial (2,159,354) on April 1, 1937. He applied for the second (2,159,373) on October 29, 1937. They were both granted on May 23, 1939.

Thanks for checking the patent dates Lugz. I didn't really think the 36 date was accurate but not all that far off either. Looks like it was around for the big one at any rate. Far as I can tell it seems to work good as new. Ed.

Scored some medium duty pallet racks today off of Facebook Marketplace. $150 for 6 verticals 12 foot tall and 42" deep, 2 verticals 12 foot tall and 30" deep and 50 shelf beams 60" long. No wood so I will have to scrounge some up. The guy I got them from got a huge stack of them from a recently closed Sears in Monroe Louisiana. I bought the last of them and he gave me a great deal!

Yeah, it looks like it would work for the next big one (God forbid)!

snapmom did a 4- or 5-picture tutorial on the Snap-on thread once. It was for a Snap-on drive stud, but the brand is irrelevant, and the concept is the same. You might be able to find it opening the thread and using the 'Search This Thread' tool to search on keywords, like "spring" or "peen".

Best place to go buy little springs and balls?

Jaydb07. I am totally guessing so here is what I might try. 1)See if SK has repair parts. I have to guess that a 3/4" is more repairable than a smaller drive size, maybe they have the correct parts to use. 2)Look at the ball and hole they come from and see if it is an inserted assembly or peened in. You may have to bore the hole out to a press fit size that Mcmaster shows. This would allow you to remove the broken bits and clean up the hole. I like the insert shown with the knurling on the side to press in or maybe you could set a smooth one with some "forever" Loctite. Good luck.

I don’t yet think I understand the search convention on this forum. When I search it makes me choose I think “Topics” “Forums” “Threads” or such. Not quite clear to me the distinction. So do I have to 1) first find a specific SO thread, and then once I find it 2) search that thread as you suggest? So I’m looking for a Thread and not a Topic or a Post, right?

I see it is “TOPICS” “POSTS” or “TITLES”
