I also recently picked up this SK toolbox. Will be putting it up for sale.

Twertsy, look at the box in the link I provided. It doesn't have the Remline Man, or Remline script on the handles. The holes on the black box look like they would align with the script Remline badge from the box I'm referencing.

True, they got "cheap" in the '70's and didn't use patterns on the handles. Bottom line is, it's a Remline made box regardless of what badge it may have worn.

Can you guys identify this toolbox?

With the drab color and the corner 'feet', that box is likely military. That style box was used across a number of tool sets. Most commonly the general mechanics set of the day. Based on the number of hinge 'knuckles' and the tabs of metal that the tray sits on, it's most likely a Union made box. The tray on the other hand is not original to the box, based on the handle (round) design. The Union made tray used a flat handle. Not unusual for them to have been switched out over time. Nice find.

Here are mine (except the bottom box on the left) all made by AMD. This should give you an idea of the Remline colors (top box on left) compared to Craftsman Colors, the stack on the right.

The Roller came from the PNW and the 10 drawer came from Sac. I just beat out Riley for the roller, got it on that day a couple years ago that Portland was snowed in!

I got this box on the cheap 3 years ago. It is handmade from pine. Someone took it upon themselves to paint it silver, and then someone else put on a thick coat of orange latex.

I have put off refinishing it, but I finally got it done today. Sanded to 320, clear poly and waxed. I might put felt on the inside of the drawers.

Thanks Smokeshow69, got a RemLine chest and your info about 2digit date stamp behind the emblem was right on. It had a gobs of glob in the drawer that once cleaned revealed nothing.
I very lightly sanded with #1000 and bingo!
Last photo is 2 x roller/chest combo being sold locally. Sheesh...

I love that box, Jay. I passed on one a couple years ago and have regretted it ever since. Remline made great looking boxes!

I feel so lucky I got it. And the guy protected the transaction for 2+ days until I could get to it. Too rare. Has original key. Even a side tray I’ve not yet photographed. It’s nearly mint. Crazy. There’s almost no corrosion at all on the handles. But it does not roll very well.

It pains me to say this but Harbor Freight sells decent quality replacement wheels that bolted right up to my AMD made Craftsman cabinet so you might give them a look.

Nice restoration Thundermug! It looks a thousand times better than it did when you got it.

I’ve never seen a box like that one from Snap-on. Fairly unique?

I have no idea to be honest. I dont know if it’s a legit Snap-On or not? I figured for $30 if it’s legit then that awesome. If someone made it and slapped a Snap-On badge on it then that’s fine too since I bought it to use and abuse anyways.

If anyone has any info on the box that would be great. Thanks everyone.

Thoughts as to which brand this might be? The first layer of paint is orange, so was thinking maybe Dorman or Wagner Lockheed brand?
Any recommendations for a good spray paint orange color that might come close to these brand's factory color?
Thank you in advance.

I don't know who made it, and I don't have any orange paint spec recommendations, I am just posting to say that is an awesome little table bench and box all in one. After pages and pages of stacks, it's always nice to see something different. (Personally, I am a patina guy, and I wouldn't touch that thing, but if you don't have a Dorman box, I will send you some close-up photos of one for color-matching by your paint store guy.)

Has anyone got any ideas what this box was made for? I bought it off e bay.. 30" long x 10" high and wide. The internal tray slides on runners and can lift out.
The coin set in to the top is a 1948 Farthing.
Lugz, you may enjoy this one as it's not a 'stack', it's dark green and has 1948 on it!
I do wonder if it was made to fit in the back of a 1948 Land Rover, as it would be a neat fit between the wheel arches and there's no storage for small items in those vehicles.

Oh, my eyes got big before I even got to the "Lugz, you may enjoy this one" part. And I wasn't thinking Land Rover, necessarily, but my first thought was how great that would look in the back of an old truck up against the cab. As long as you mention, though, it is NATO/Land Rover green.

In the midst of posting this on the plomb thread, I forgot to post my newest vintage tool box acquisition! Got this bundled with some proto tool boards and was able to negotiate a price of $20 and the seller even threw in the screwdrivers! This box has some edge wear but is rust free and is only missing the top portion of the hasp off the lid! It even has the lift out tray ! This is the first plvmb 9989 chest and i am excited to own it !

Thanks for the picture offer. If it did not have the green paint slathered on it, might just clearcoat it and display. On the fence weather to strip it, de-rust and go for a raw steel look. The small table w/hinged top is unusual, but a practical shop
piece.
Got some other projects in the hopper so will set this one aside. I’ve done several auto paint restore projects and they look great, but this item will get used in my little workshop. Maybe I will build a butcher block wood top for it.
