You drive a hard bargain. [emoji6] That's a deal for 20 bucks.

The seller was at $40 but I bundled a bunch of Proto LA tools boards and some Proto LA metric wrenches and got him down to $20 🤣 Rileysan has seen me at swap meets and can’t believe some of the deals I get. It helps that a very large part of my job is negotiating prices!

In the midst of posting this on the plomb thread, I forgot to post my newest vintage tool box acquisition! Got this bundled with some proto tool boards and was able to negotiate a price of $20 and the seller even threw in the screwdrivers! This box has some edge wear but is rust free and is only missing the top portion of the hasp off the lid! It even has the lift out tray ! This is the first plvmb 9989 chest and i am excited to own it !

Hi all, New to this but I have an old tool box that survived Harvey I am trying to ID, no markings that I can find. I have had this for over 30+ years, it was my grandfathers so guessing 1930s or 40s. Was going to refurbish but getting to old for that and kids, grandkids not interested.

I want to say that might be a craftsman Long c set from the 40’s but it has been repainted? I need the experts on craftsman to chime in here ?

After about 5 hours degreasing and cleaning my KRA something Snap On roller box, I decided to make a butcher block top for it. I grabbed a few hardwood pallets from work, cut down the main runners, glued & clamped, and then hand planed down the top with a few bench planes. The cats really enjoyed the bed of shavings I made and generally got in the way the whole time, like cats do.

I finished the top with 5 coats of tung oil. The pallets are a few different kinds of asian hardwoods...the deep red/orange colored wood smells like spicy grapefruit. No idea what any of them are, but the lighter ash colored wood is hard as a rock and doesn't plane well. Was a lot of work to do it by hand.

Looks a lot nicer than the cabinet ^_^ The better half wants me to make more for the kitchen countertops.

Got this today. No idea on age. 36h×30w×12d. 30 drawers. Steelmaster by Art Steel Company New York USA.
Drawer have no slides but whole thing is sturdy, weighs I'd guess 80 lbs. Card catalog?

Looks mint! Good find, did you get it for a steal?

They did have that style tray

Does the front cover sit proud of the case when it's closed? That's a feature that seems to be peculiar to very old Craftsman boxes, although I've never seen one with four rows of top drawers. If it is, I'd be all over that like stink on an ape; I love my Craftsman long C box ( even if it's not sitting on the matching roller).

Front cover is flush with sides and bottom and yes has been repainted, not sure of original color but it has always been red as far as I remember. Of course at 75, my memory ain't what is used to be. LOL! I have been searching E-bay for values on old tools and this tool box but haven't been successful on the tool box. I haven't found any tool boxes that have the casters that mine has.

Pressteel used those kind of "creeper" castor on some older Wartime/prewar rollers?

Pics of the slides? are there 4 rollers, one to a "corner"?

Check the lower left front as well. I have one of that era and that's where mine is stamped.

My snappy isn't stamped - it's got a Canandian market sticker on it, so they might be made a little different.

Might be an early KR557-

Thought of you guys when I spotted this Proto at the swap meet Sun., seller wasn't around to ask how much, not that I was going to buy it. Pretty minty though.

That is a later model proto 9997 top chest... about mid 60’s but still a decent box. The earlier ones have different seams on the lid and the handles are slightly different. I have one of each and am currently looking for lower rollers for them !

Guys, I haven't seen one of these Craftsman tool chests before. Current owner believes it's early '90s. Looks like no casters, current owner says it didn't come with any and that appears to be the case. It looks like this was intended to be a stationary tool chest. Obviously, most of the drawer pull trim is missing. I have not yet seen this in person trying to decide if I'm interested or not. Color is black. Approximate size is 1-1/2'x3'x4-1/2'.

Wondering if anyone can tell me anything about 'em. Thoughts?

I don’t know anything about that unit specifically. I’d agree it looks like it is intended to be stationary. If the price is right, I’d put a butcher block top on it and store smalls in it. Hardware, etc.

TEX: looks like that old Craftsman (or not so old) spent it's lifetime outside. I'd say with the legs built like they are that it was original, but I haven't seen any old Craftsman toolboxes like that before. if you might be able to get a few more pictures that blow up of the slides and pulls and the craftsman's logo maybe one of the craftsman guys can chime in?

454: there's been a Proto box like that for sale around here for a benjamin that hasn't sold yet and wish I had room for it even though I don't need it I do like the logo and look.

There was a Herbrand in the first row. Cheap. I didn't buy it. I did ask if they will be at Compounce. Be easier for me there.

Just picked up this Proto Professional box for about $70. It was part of a package of stuff I bought.

Can anyone tell me anything about it like age and what it might be worth? Just needs a good cleaning and I should be able to get most of the over spray etc off.

The top box I flipped that matched the style of that Proto was late-70’s. That would be my guess. No idea on value except to say that I sold mine with half a dozen large Proto combo wrenches, a Proto 3/4 ratchet and 6 or 8 3:4 drive sockets all for $250ish. Not sure that helps you.

I think the early proto boxes and tools have become the next collectable. The plomb boxes have dried up some, and the proto stuff is excellent quality. Cudos to you guys for picking some up.

I got a full craftsman dome top and Blackhawk box for $35. Craftsman needs love for the slides. Most of the small sockets or very old snap on. White corrosion covers everything. Neat little Versa ratchet.

You ****. Both of those boxes cleaned up are worth way more than what you paid and the tools are just throw ins!

Is that ratchet a 1/2" Craftsman round head fine tooth? $50 right there.
