I think I'll jack your idea for the tire racks, too. After gathering the dimensions from the manufacturer's website, I think I can weld them up from old bedframe angle iron and hit them with a spray bomb paint job. They won't be as sturdy as yours, and the finish won't hold up like powdercoat, but they'll be cheap and simple! Good idea putting the diamondplate panels behind them. I really need to get some stacks of tires moved somewhere out of the way.

I would REALLY like to see more images of the loft area.

Here ya go, Ryan.

Sorry it is a real mess as we just dumped stuff up there in a rush in the fall.

Since it is unheated and it has been -30C to -40C here, we have not yet got back to organizing it yet.

I just join this board. Your garage build is great. I have gotten more ideas in the last hour reading the different postings. My wife isnt going to be happy. I do have one question, in your picture of your tire racks, next to your jacks, there are metal "boxes", car stands, I have been looking for something like those, where did you get them

The wheel stands are from Joes Racing (see here).

My only question is, with as nice as your garage is, why would you not put 45s on your trim pieces around your outlets for a cleaner look?

Beautiful, thoughtful build! It looks like you've got things pretty much done. I've just one question for you to ponder. Now that it is built, is there anything that you would have done differently? Sometimes I realize only after the fact that I could have designed a project better/cheaper/more efficiently.lol:wtf:

I have given that a bit of thought as, while I have no plans to build another shop, I'm sure I will at some point.

So far my change list includes:
1. make the garage a few feet wider
2. a few outlets are not positioned optimally
3. I'd ignore the "expert electrician" and go with my original plan for lighting as the front of the garage is a tad dim
4. I'd move the light under the stairs as the exhaust from the boiler shades it
5. the drop down extension cords are too close to the centre (but easily moved)
6. I'd make the stem wall a foot taller as it gets a little wet in the area where the shop sits (but no water has ever leaked in).

Other than that, I'm very happy. That being said, I have not completely set it up yet nor done any major projects so we'll have to see how it works out once put to the test.

Marc
p.s. and no, I would not reduce the number of outlets. ;)

Hey Brad,

Thanks for the compliments. I have not yet regretted having extra outlets.

The emergency exit sign outlets were my own addition and not required by local code.

Okay, so here are a few updated pictures - the last 10% always takes the longest to finish....

Marc,

Nice Garage/Shop.

If you don't mind me asking, where abouts in Alberta (from another Albertan!).

I know all about our high construction costs!

As a former course marshall at Mid Ohio I have to give you a HUGE thumb's up on that tow hook loop on the front of your race car :) I could tell you some real horror stories about what ive had to hook to to pull a car out of the sand trap's

Very nice. You ever think you would fill it up this quick? I'm planning to add on or build a seperate shop altogether and I told my wife let's decide on a size then double it:lol_hitti

Thanks - the local track has a swamp along the back straight just after a high-speed S-curve and more than a few people have gone into it backwards.

I had a smaller shop when I lived on the east coast so had most of the stuff in storage after my move west already but you're right - it certainly fills up fast!
