I currently have a coupon in a drawer for the 5 drawer cart for $189, good till sometime in February 2019. I also have a 20% off anything coupon at home that excludes carts, cabinets, and chests among other things. The email I mentioned specifically pictured the 5 drawer cart and is 15% off ($177) till 11.21.18 only. I called the store and asked about Black Friday, they told me to look up the coupon online. It lists the 44" cabinet and 4 drawer cart on sale but does not show the 5 drawer cart.

I didn't know the 15% off till wednesday coupon was for in stores only.

Better coupon on the cart someone passed onto to me so here you go.

Even with the 15% off coupon, looks like the Black Friday deal on the 44" box will be the best price. Can the 15% coupon be stacked on top of the 5-drawer cart for $169 coupon?

Cool... must be a special % coupon then... Their normal % off has a disclaimer on them "not valid for..." and they list tool boxes and a few other big ticket items.

I'm hoping to grab a 26" bottom. I currently have one that I use as my station for my grinders... I need one now to hold my arbor press and pipe vise... well I say that... but I need the drawer space.

That's awesome, thank you.

FYI for those interested, Blue side tray is item # 64641, shown in their November retail booklet but not online yet. A local store said they should have them in a couple weeks.

Regarding the blue 5" swivel caster replacements - Do you guys put them on the back and use the two locking casters on the front (drawer side)? Seems like that makes more sense for where I will store it in my garage than to have the locking casters on one end.

That's what I did. It's working just fine.

Do you guys think they will be releasing the rest of the boxes in the new colors as well? I'm really liking the new green 5 drawer cart, but would be even more interested if they were planning on releasing the 56" in the new colors. Having a mismatched box and cart would drive me crazy.

I saw the three new colors in person this weekend and I liked the green a lot. Not sure about the rest of the boxes, but I know some accessories will be in stores in the rest of the colors sometime in December.

For those that have debadged, any tips on getting this sticker residue off the inside of the lid? I've tried Goo Gone with a razor blade and putty knife. The razor blade feels like it's about to take the paint off and the putty knife isn't making much progress. Usually goo gone and either of those tools work great for me.

Add a heat gun on low to the goo gone method. Be gentle but keep at it... they sell plastic razor blades too... good luck.

Heat gun and plastic scraper. Razor is to easy to damage the paint. Go easy with the heat, just wave it over for a few seconds and check, repeat

I guess I'll contribute a bit, being that I've referenced this website once in a while during some of my previous projects. I work heavy line maintenance on commuter aircraft. Alot of the guys herein my hangar have these Harbor Freight boxes and they work beautifully for what we do, they're just about the right size, easy to modify, and cheap enough to not worry about spilling hydraulic fluid on it and ruining the finish. My box served me well for about 2 years. The pneumatic lid holders help up well and I had no issues with the drawers. The locks these boxes come with are pure trash though which led to one of my first and most convenient mods.

I added a bit of aluminum here and there to line areas of the box top so I can use it was workspace and not worry about spilling acetone or hydraulic fluid. Adding a pad lock to this box was one of the biggest convenience mods and made me love how easy it was to have access to my tools and leave my keys on my box secured. I also closed up the sides and added snap latches to the front bottom flap door to keep guys from "borrowing" paper rolls, buckets, etc. It worked out great. Hope this helps someone else with any ideas they might have.

These boxes are well worth the money, even for someone who can afford Snap On and Matco, I'd still pick this HF box over them just due to bang for your buck.

When you guys turn the tops into work surfaces, how do you deal with
1) space just inside top cover, now inaccessible? and
2) drawers locked when top down
I'm just trying to reconcile work surface vs tool access.

Thanks,

2. Disabled drawer locks. If you need drawer locks... it would be an easy fabrication to put a manual locking mechanism in the lid area... look how the lock engages... and defeat the lid switch and add a manual method.

1. I swear at it... then move all the **** to one of my other tables... then open the cart.

Before starting work -
- open lid
- open all drawers slightly
- close lid
- start working

The only tools I keep in the top are Screwdrivers. Everything else is just bits-n-pieces.

So, I haven’t taken the time to read the whole thread, but has anyone put a work top of some sort on top of the flip top lid? I do a lot of golf club repair work and would like to have an additional space to throw my small belt sanders and even my drill press when needed on a more sturdy top than the metal lid. I would imagine some through bolts would hold something on but wanted to see any ideas you guys may have.

I’m also looking for a way to have a top mounted on the 44” box with overhang on each end so I can mount my vice. I want them to roll so I can use both sides for different work areas.

Thanks in advance!

I took the top off mine, but I've always thought that if I were to use the top as a work surface I would use a piece of butcherblock and some cantilever hinges. I used these for the lid on our coffee table and it's great to be able to get stuff out without taking everything off the lid.

With the tool cart, you may want hinges that lift higher or farther back so you can access everything inside.

THAT is a fantastic idea. Take the rest of the day off... you have contributed to society today.

Just picked up the 4 dr cart during Black Friday for 99.99. I just remembered I happen to have a nice solid laminated/wood countertop that I had removed from an old stand alone dishwasher. Might have to experiment with this work top idea because at a glance the dimensions look pretty close.

I just purchased mine. I reinforced the bottom with angle brackets and added a magnet to keep the shelf from flopping around when folded.

Link to the rings for the holes on side of top? That’s exactly what I need. Box looks great!

Lookin' good!

For any Harley guys out there, they could model theirs after yours especially if they removed the U S General badging and replaced it with Harley Davidson.

Here's what I chose to do:
https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7005748&postcount=2604

I took an idea and ran with it adapting as I worked. The back sits against the wall and the right side sits against my workbench. It's plenty sturdy as I almost never move it.

I built the wooden frame that bolts to the cart so it presses down on the drawer lock "buttons". I did have to remove one drawer that popped open too easily and slightly bend the rear of the slide rail to increase friction as it passed over the rubber stop. Now it stays closed even if I roll the cart but I don't have excessively heavy stuff in mine. The lower drawer holds all my 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" sockets on rails. I keep the ratchets and adapters/extensions in a top drawer.

Once that frame and the full extension drawer slides were installed it was just measuring carefully and building two tops to fit. Since those pictures were taken I installed a piece of thin hard wood trim over the plywood edges and painted it all black. I also installed a double hung window latch to make sure nothing moves. Pop it open and the grinder side (left) slides open and you can reach under the right side where the smaller drill press is mounted.

Looking online it's probably cheaper to grab a mega set of grommets than to buy them individually, plus saving the time guessing at the store which sizes you need

For those of you that use the magnetic strips inside the lid, do they ever grab onto deep sockets or something else inside your top? This strip is just there for positioning at the moment.

When I mounted mine I put it high like you have yours. I put two of them on to hold my most commonly used combination wrenches. They sit over my 3/8 deep chrome and 3/8 deep impact. I haven't had any problems with the socket being "grabbed"
