Bomber- nice haul. That looks like a cool barn to pick through. The pliers logo is (FTF) Fairmount Tool and Forging.

slow for sales today - only two were worthwhile.
picked up 9" vice grip welder clamp, set of 4 small body work dollies, cap for my acetylene tank, no-name air nozzle, brass air hose extender connector and plastic clamp, blue point 12" feeler gauge (needs cleaned), vaughan soft 2-face hammer, and - in the well-picked-over $1 box - snap-on 1/2" SL710 black label ratchet.
also picked up a very lightly used portable 20# clarke abrasive pressure pot. <$50 for all.

Anyone, is the grinder wg found the pre-cursor to the Craftsman grinder that so many of us have and that BB found this morning?

Picked at a sale last nite. Like maybe 2-3 tiny specs of chrome or nickle plating left on the cover. Runs quite and smooth. Price ok 4 me when other bidders involved. Is that a build date on the rear tag? Looks 2b original cord but needs a shrinktube fix. I'll tig up a nice stainless quench tray 4 it easy-peasy.
Somewhat interesting cobbled roller stand too. Anyone recognize it by its legs? I believe there are acouple of these models on the site but i'm not smart enough to find any pics of them. Can someone post a few photos 2 see what its suppose to look like? thanks 4 any help.

Those legs on the stand are Craftsman workbench legs. The same legs were also used on a Craftsman table saw.

No doubt! There were other neat tools I didn't buy, and probably more attachment brackets for the grinder accessories that I missed.

Yes, WG's grinder has a 115 prefix and was made by Packard Electric Co which was owned by General Motors. Around 1960 the Craftsman block grinder prefix changed to 397 and was made by Delco which was also owned by General Motors. Later around 1980 the prefix was changed again to 257 when apparently the grinders were now made by Paramount which was a Division of Allegretti & Company using the Delco design.

I went to the flea and an estate sale today.This E sale was crazy!! Huge shop and it was packed with stuff. This guy did what we do I think, he had a ton of older machinery and stuff. Tomorrow is half price day ill go back and post the entire haul tomorrow.

Wow, some great last-minute pickups.

I haven't posted anything lately due to the paucity of sales and the fact that this is holiday party season (or as I call it Death March with Cocktails.) I haven't been up to an early rise some mornings.

Anyway, there was one sale last week that look interesting, where I picked up the following:

A square, some jumpers and a box of Ticonderoga #2's. The square was a real sweetheart though:

Monday I stopped by the restore, and found them stocking the tools! So, first pick:

Armstrong and P&C speeders and some misc. sockets for sets.
Today, just to get out of the house I went to look at a rather sad sale, at which I bough nothing. Then, heading to a different restore I picked up some sockets and a couple drivers. After that I went over to a tool reseller I know of and spent top dollar on some Snap-on.

Cronwell, SK Wayne, Craftsman, Mustang and Proto sockets, MAC and Vaco drivers $1.50. Snap-on rat '67 and 1 1/4" socket '51 - $50.

Guessing that is it for the year on my end. Merry Xmas everyone!

It doesn't look like that model came with a lamp.

It is nice that other the grinder is complete other than the water tray. The eye shields are often missing, the glass in yours even looks usable.

I avoided getting skunked courtesy of Freecycle today: A Cymbal stand.

Have to thing what I want to do with it; Repurpose, or get a cymbal, or...

extends to 42" tall, and pretty stable. Head can be set an an angle.

nice story about talking the guy up a bit and sounds like you got more than a fair deal with all the items you bought that looked like pretty good quality too.

ALL: I've got a few of those old Craftsman table saw stands and the look pretty good, but a TERRIBLE DESIGN if you want to move them. not very sturdy especially with a table saw on one and the casters don't roll that good either. I think I rather have the stationary Craftsman stand for my Craftsman table saw that is similar to the grinder stand only a bit bigger.

Drives, the key to making those stands stable is to get a panel of something on at least three sides. It essentially becomes a sheer wall, and as long as they are tightly attached, makes then rigid.

The casters are another story...

Looks like 1/2 to me. The bar stock they used is bigger than 1/2" though.

Speeders are not for tightening, just quickly getting things snugged down. I used to use one all the time for engine rebuilding after breaking the bolts loose, and for snugging them down prior to torquing. An impact was never used "back in the day" for that type of work in my experience. .

To keep this post on topic I SOLD my Craftsman Round top grinder on FB yesterday to a possible GJ member named Bob. He mentioned as an aside that he was restoring a vintage Blackhawk floor jack - so what are the odds he's NOT on GJ?

As the year draws to an end, I want to thank Outlaw for his support at the beginning of the year that encouraged me to keep showing my finds throughout the year. I doubt that I will ever have a better day at an estate sale than I did at an Alamo, CA sale in January 2018.

That was a Little Green Book day for sure, Don. (You're scooping my Host's Recap for NYE, where the 1939 3/8-drive Challenger set gets a prominent mention! )

January was a killer month in total, actually. That's when Outlaw found the anvil, Swingpress found the Japanese spears, Craptain scored a 1938 South Bend lathe, tym found the WWII ship identification models and we had not one but two classic mystery finds - justridin's funky old trailer hitch and Cf mth's E.E. Whitefield PRESERVALL fruit canning pump. You want to know how good it was to us? It took us 54 pages to get to February. 54!

WG: Indeed! and had any of us looked closer, its in the description! 7W bulbs; read old school indoor Xmas lights, or for night lights! You can get these with an array of LED's now, brighter, and minuscule power consumption. Probably less likely to burn out too! (I have several in my gun safe and seem to need to replace them every time I open it...)

Here is the description: it includes the lighting in the bottom section, but also in the last sentence of the second paragraph the tray is described as made of red plastic.

Ah, my last fling at Jake’s flea for the year; reopens in April. (Cue up “Auld Lang Syne”)
Breakfast on site with Mrs LesserSon, then spent exactly $34 (edit: I received a mnemonic correction from Mrs LS).
1/3hp Craftsman block grinder, nearly identical to one bought earlier this year, but this one has the quenching tray. When I pointed this out, and showed that it was made in December, Mrs LesserSon quipped (somewhat sarcastically, I thought), “It’s a Christmas miracle.” But it actually IS, because the build date is my grandfather’s BIRTHDAY.

It was loaded with old wrenches, and I got some more along the way. I’ll post them on the brand-specific threads as I figure out what they are (mostly USA).
“Triumph” doe - tool brand? Auto company? There’s a vise with the same name but different logo under discussion on the vise thread.
“Aurora” tool - ignition?
Harbor Freight Salvage Company hole sizer. HF started in 1977, changed name to Harbor Freight Tools. Wikipedia is vague on when that happened, but I guess the early-to-mid 1980s. Anyone know for certain?

DadsTools had an interesting thread going in the General Discussion forum earlier this year that delved into the company history in detail. To quote a recent Barn Sale sign, "Enter at your own risk," because despite his best preemptive attempts to forestall it devolving into just another insipid 'Harbor Freight *****' thread, it did!

On the TRIUMPH wrench...
My hunch would be motorcycle, but I don't know. I do have a Triumph Specialty Company socket set in a wood box from the 1920's, but they were not the OEM, and I doubt they had the capacity to make that DOE engineers wrench. Do you know the post #'s where a Triumph vise is being discussed in the Mega Vise thread?

“Aurora” tool - ignition?

I did a double take when I saw that tool in the picture. I couldn't remember why it seemed familiar until I actually read the post and saw Aurora.

That is a tool for Aurora AFX slot cars and track. I seem to remember using the 2 pins to snap track together and apart. I don't remember what the "wrench" was for. That goes back to the late 70's/early 80's in my world. I had an AFX track covering the ping pong table in the basement.

Found a listing for a defunct upholstery shop 10 mins from me that had a closeout. Place was filled with industrial sewing machines, power tools, all sorts of stuff in several buildings.

I had limited trunk space, so $30 netted me a banged up 1/4 hp Blue Point grinder (that I might convert to a buffer/wire wheel tool), spare new wheel, and some nice Steelmaster file drawers. I'll try to get a better pic later after I've sorted things and done a little cleaning.

The Delta DPs wouldn't have fit in my trunk.

Hear, hear, LesserSon! The "out with the old" is a boon for those of us who appreciate the old. I always just hope the weather cooperates by not raining on it until I get a look at everyone's discards.

Well this should be my last post in this thread for the 2018 season. Answered a CL ad for these two snow plows. One is a Fisher 8.5 foot Minute Mount in excellent condition with new lights. The other is a Western 8 foot in great condition. Both have no holes in the blades and look like they were never abused or used much at all. Paid $400 for both of them.
