I'm in Fairfield, whereabouts are you?
I am still trying to come up with a design, but life keps getting in the way of my garage time lol.
Thanks for the tips on the hammerforms and Metalmeet. I actually almost bought some hammer forms awhile back to make some bike parts...seems like now is as good a time as any.
Search on youtube Lazze Metal Shaping.
Lazzie is completely awsome
And he is a really nice guy too
That was the kit I had planned on...again I freely admit I don't know wtf each die does...but I know what look/pattern I like when I see it...especially the diamond/quilted look.
Any pics of what that flame die creates?
Don't bother trying to set rivets with an air hammer... and don't spend the money on the eastwood gun and rivets get a real tool.. the redbox I mentioned and linked too is better for the money... Also Rivets from the Aircraft supply are significantly cheaper per pound than eastwood.
Fair enough...but I already own it...present from the wife.
The Eastwood kit works good and as a gift that’s even better. So even with a air chisel it will work just harder to get clean rivets because of speed and more then one way to skin a cat.
A bench seat I was making for a model a coupe hot rod. I got the rivets from ebay and liked the domed head . I use them rivets on my leather projects as well and ebay had a great price. I am not building a aircraft and so no certification needed . Look for the correct length of your rivet and diameter of the tail..
Just checking in to let you guys know the dream isn't dead. I just received the Eastwood bead roller drive...I bought 1 punch/bead die in 1.5" (for another project, but to really test their stuff to see if I'll buy more from EW or someone else's dies), a few bead roller dies, the SWAG Offroad bandsaw stand...and yeah...I think that's it. Now I need a stand for the bead roller. Ideas? Oh yeah, got the bead roller guide fence as well for the 27" roller. Ok, back to the stand. I have a few Wiltons laying around, but want something a little more permanent, and I'd hate to waste a good vice on that.
Look at the swedeish metal man on you tube. He has the high dollar equipment but shows how to create by hand.
Gore,
Yes, there is a slight mark around the Dimple from the Die, but I think it’s as much my inexperience as a fault of the tool. My impression, pun intended, is that experts use a bit of leather or material between the Dies to protect the material, just as they do in bending aluminum.
The HF 20t Press is so cheap new, and cheaper used, and is a monster addition to my little shop for the $. Just added the Swag HD finger brake, and upgraded the ram to the Air-Hydraulic unit when I saw it for $80 last week.
I have the HF Knock out punch unit too, but use it for punching holes.
As for my sheet metal station, it’s all home built from cheap used HF E-Wheel($60), a new HF Planishing Hammer($80), and cheap cutoff steel REMs.
The Bead roller was a rusty, worn out HF unit I got for $50 used, and invested sweat into it, but little $. I’m even making my own bead roller dies on my cheap lathe.
My point is, my monthly tool budget is tight, maybe $100/ month, so I buy cheap, and invest time. Some months, I forgo spending to save for items. The Swag HD finger brake, for example, took some time to procure, but I aimed to get it when I knew they were having a sale! More info on my thread.
Get some one to laser cut out a Blank for a Bomber Seat that should make it very easy to build.
