Napa has some deals, I ordered the 1/4" slim bit driver set

https://www.napaonline.com/en/flyers?icid=q4_hol2018_megamenu-deals-monthly

I got that with free shipping over thanksgiving. It’s not bad, but that set has been replaced by Gearwrench with 81032 (a 45 pc set). The difference is that on the newer set both ratchets will accept the bits and you get two 1/4” adapters to change them to 1/4” drive ratchets. On the 81031 the short ratchet is for bits and the long ratchet is a 1/4” drive only. You can use a 1/4” socket on the long ratchet for bits, but that sort of defeats the slim-head design. I couldn’t find the 81032 for less than $75 so I got the 81031.

Yes I did notice that, I wonder if you can buy a rebuild kit for the small ratchet to use on the longer one, it would still probably be cheaper.

FWIW both the 20- and 32-pc wrench sets are cheaper at sears right now, plus points back if you spend OOP

I was in the market for a spark plug ratchet. The Carlyle one in the Napa thread looks good for $30 on sale, but a search landed me on a Gearwrench kit instead. The Gearwrench looks to sell for $56-66 most places, Walmart had it listed from JB Tools for $45 shipped. The kit is a 84T ratchet and two 6” magnetic spark plug socket extensions.

I highly recommend those sockets, they are great quality, and you will be surprised how often you take them rather than "standard" sockets.

Yep, they are my go to sockets. Just bought a set for my main box, already have a set in my cart. Also bought a set a couple months ago for my son. Price on this set is the least I've paid.

Same here, have been my go to sockets since I bought them. Liked them so much I ordered the 1/4 drive set

I bought them together in some kind of "deal" which I have forgotten the details of.

am I the only one who is sad that these sockets (and the really short ones other vendors make) are not available in 1/2" drive?

Any thoughts on this hammer set? I couldn't seem to find any country of origin for the hammers.

Gearwrench 82303D 5 piece hammer set
Found them for 50 bucks on amazon. I would've included the link but I'm not allowed, yet lol.

Thanks for the feedback. I figured I could expect a reasonable amount of quality from Gearwrench. I've seen their pliers sets on Amazon, as well. Those are also on my radar.

Re: GEARWRENCH 3887 Tap and Die 75 Piece Set - Combination SAE / Metric $84.99 - Amaz

GEARWRENCH 3887 Tap and Die 75 Piece Set - Combination SAE / Metric $84.99 on Amazon.

Lowest price ever according to: https://camelcamelcamel.com/GEARWRENCH-3887-Tap-Die-Piece/product/B000HBDW48

Note: Typically ships in 1-2 months. Current delivery dates look like Wednesday, March 20 - Tuesday, April 9.

That set has been on my watch list for a month or so at that price. I didn't realize it was back ordered so long. Very nice set. I just took a chance and bought an open box set from a reseller, without the best of reputations, for $63.74 delivered. I need a set but only occasionally so I figured if it was a little rough around the edges it would be ok for the money. If it was really rough I'd return it. It came in brand new still shrink wrapped. Win some-lose some in this game.

I bought this set years ago from the ‘Hot Deals’ section of the GW site. Can’t remember how much it was, but it was a great price - under a $100. Over the last 5 years or so, this set has saved my bacon on numerous occasions.

likley a good set, and reasonably priced. for most usage all would be completely usable, and if you decide that you really need a better version of one of them, you are not out a lot, and having a backup would not be the worst thing in the world.

looks like a pretty good deal to me.

I have this. Underwhelming after having trusty cooks. Id take a TC ball peen and a HF deadblow over this set any day now.

the smallest tc ball peen is 42$, the cheapest shipping to me is 13.25$.

the original deal was for 50$, even before you bought the hf deadblow you have shot past what he would have spent.

you are proving my point. a reasonable starter set. when you find you use something a lot, you upgrade it. the others, for occasional use, are adequate.

I will admit that I dont usually think of tc for ball peen hammers, I usually think of them for dead blow hammers, but that is neither here nor there. . . . .

Not bad. I picked up the last two of those kits at Northern Tool on clearance for $80 last summer. Luckily, I haven't had to use them for anything but to chase a couple rusty holes so far...
