Here is are additional pics of the socket boxes:

Does anyone know a good way to clean paper labels? I don't see the old Cresent lables very often.
What sockets are you missing from the CM 1/4 drive set? I may have some spare Flying-V sockets.

No 2019 finds for me yet...I've been ringing in the New Year getting my **** kicked by a nasty cold...

As I said upthread, Outlaw, the smaller of the two pieces I have is empty. And, because the hexnut end cap only has provisions to screw into the two pieces I have, I wasn't seeing how two other pieces would work. Now that I see your photo, I do. The smallest one screws into the end of the second smallest one! And those both go inside the next biggest one. Thanks.

The B-52 is functional but needs a clean and lube. Is there a method or tool that works best for opening this thing up?

I carefully used a pin punch with plenty of penetrating oil. Seemed to work okay. Mine had been very abused.
-Don

Look online for a PARKS #SPA-2 spanner.
Not a very expensive tool, but very useful.
They can be found for around $10 shipped on fLea-bay.
(I’ve made good use of my SPA-1 as well)

These are billed as Bicycle tools, but can be useful for many jobs.
Especially opening up Williams ratchets.

Thanks, Don and Jake. Being the impatient type, I tried Don's method with success. The threads on the locking ring must be the finest I've ever seen on a hand tool. Before I opened it I did a bit of googling and of course the top link was to this great step by step tutorial on GJ.

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36498

I'm glad I read it BEFORE I opened the ratchet up. Parts are soaking now. Also, I incorrectly referred to this as a B52. It's actually a 1/2" drive S52. Thanks guys.

Sunshine and mild temperatures today! Looked through an actual garage sale. Offered was a water-bathed 12” white grindstone with 1/4hp motor for $50 and three sizes of Coes wrenches for $15 each. No pics, and not my thing today.
Two other stops cost a total of $7 and yielded a local-author book (which I regret buying, because now I see I already had a copy), a tiny Utica end nippers, and a Dunlap-branded, Vlchek-manufactured pliers. Not much of a day, but at least I got out.
Spotted but not purchased: an OD green toolbox with tray (rustier than the outside) for $12, a Hinsdale one-way ratchet, a few misc USA auto wrenches, and a Herbrand erection wrench.

The Utica B372 nippers had a soldered leaf spring that was broken, attached to a handle that was bent. I sweated off the broken spring and reprofiled the handle. The Dunlaps had light green paint and some other goo, so I took them apart and soaked them, then scrubbed with a toothbrush, so as not to mess with the cad finish. Turned out nice.

the second is a pair of Lucas NOS tail light assemblies that look to me like maybe MGA.

I feel like Bugeye Sprites use those, but the British motor parts bin is a cesspool of inbreeding.
https://www.sportsandclassics.com/p...sprite/lucas-original-nos-tailamp-model-l549/

I have a little corner in a friends warehouse i havent been able to take full advantage of, so I was on the lookout for some shelving. $50 out of a closed Orchard Supply Hardware got me 2 uprights, 3 shelves of beams, and 2 of wire decking. It was all OSHA bolted to hell, and a pain to pull down alone, but I feel I did pretty good. $10 got me an extra propane tank for the forklift too(no pic). I should be able to go alot more vertical now.

attachment.php

There was thousands of sq/ft of Lozier shelving for free too, but I didn't really need it.

attachment.php

And yesterday a Hitachi miter saw popped up on CL for $10 looking good.
I went to reply, and the seller was already in my contacts. picked it up, shot the breeze for a minute, and picked up a job fixing some pneumatic saw machine in his shop. Pic after rain stops, and maybe I look in my stash of blades.

Folks, what a great weekend of finds! From the simplest pliers to wartime filing cabinets to hauls that just kept going and going! And we're not even a full week into 2019! A special welcome to new posters and returning alumni--the variety and fresh avatars keep all of us checking in to see what's out there. I especially appreciate the stories and color behind any score, be it a bucket of rusty wrenches or a warehouse full of shelving. Keep the reports coming!

RagTop, that V8 tool is a valve guide knocker for Flathead Ford V-8's.

The P&C 4-way is the later version, so Smokeshow needs it to complete his collection!

That TRUTH socket is a first for me. I have never seen any socket in any era with branding or sizes or anything else stamped on the bottom of the base like that before. Is it the socket with the slanted knurling? Is it 1/2-inch drive?

RAG: I love all the old tools you find and i'm guessing you do too. I think I have a 4 way exactly like that so i'll have to see if I have a manufacturer's name on mine too.

also I like to post food pics cause half the fun of my long trips to pick up something fun or cool or old or rusty is having my bride find us a cool new or an old great one to grab a bite to eat.

ALL: our daughter found this one https://hbbev.co/ and a bit spendy for a smoothie, but OMG i'm telling you it's TASTY!! my wife likes to bake so I need to try to eat healthy a bit more cause things like these Swedish cinnamon twists sure are hard to stop eating at 1, 2, 3 or....

anybody else pick up old tempered glass? I picked up these 5 or 6 boxes with new tempered glass 12 inches wide, 4 feet long and 1/4 inch thick along with this little shelving unit for FREE. not sure what i'm going to do with the glass or the shelving unit, but i'm sure i'll think of something.

Thanks Drives! I love digging around and finding something unusual. Those came out of the old 30s Kennedy box I found at the flea! The weekends are perfect for finding good grub on the way home :)

Well then it is a race to see who finds the proto la one first. Swap meet season is coming up with the big one in April! As rileysan and Bmwrd0 can attest, I usually do some pretty good damage at that one. The thrill of the hunt and finding a rare item in a pile of rusty junk is what is fun to me. That is how I have assembled my plomb and proto empire collection, one piece at a time and usually only from swap meets that are local.

Not sure this counts. On my travels today, I spotted something in the road. Pulled up next to it and picked this up...

Not a huge score, but definitely a nice one.... Even if it’s a little beat up...

Hit 2 ReStores today for $4 I didn't do badly. I got a Proto screwdriver, A Bell System Stanley screwdriver, a John Deere drill bit set and a milk crate. I love the Proto screwdrivers because the square shanks make them great pry bars. Also if anyone needs any of the Plvmb wrenches pictured let me know I found them at the ReStore but did not buy them as I don't need them I would be happy to buy them and send them to someone for whatever I pay for the wrench and shipping.b26d5b187ae5002bfa65c6508559d8f7.jpg6f057bcc353d008f9e46dd3b9d51dc65.jpg30aa36b9a85367a2a4fae719e63c1d02.jpg9bf4c1de7c62a7cff8f4f9de598c8ae5.jpg500be224ad5329785253be52f29f8941.jpg

I picked these up at a garage sale yesterday. I was actually surprised there was one this time of the year. The guy had a 2 1/2 gallon pail full of ratchets. His price was $5 each. Three 3/8" ratchets, no user marks and no clean-up required. I didn't have much time to look around for more stuff although I grabbed a roller stand too.

Aye, sir--well done! Probably left under someone's hood after some engine work. A little sand paper on those rough edges and it's a good dirty-work, don't-care-if-I-lose-it kinda tool.

Not only does it count, but our esteemed 2019 host, BlueBomber, revels and excels in middle- and side-of-the-road type finds. It does look like it got run over a few times, but hey, free is free.

Exactly!

Nice to see some good, great and even suckage pick-ups in the first week of the new year! This weekend was the first time I'd seen any estate/garage sale even worth considering hitting. Saw one on Sunday, it was a waste but at least I got out there. Finally.

I've been looking for a replacement Sawzall for awhile at a price I was willing to pay. Found a nice one last night on CL and picked it up this morning.

Happy pickin' fellers!
