The owner of 6061 had one sent to him to try out. Apparently it is a pretty competent machine and he uses it also. Of all the youtube tig wleders out there.... He can make some of the nicest welds. Hes been making automotive fab parts such as intakes, intercoolers, fuel tanks, etc. for quite awhile.

The guy at 6061 is a Grand Wizard. He could weld with a car battery. It would take me twenty years of continuous practice to even approach what he routinely does. That dude is "da man."

For a lower budget I would consider Everlast, lots of positive reviews, I am planning on getting the 250ex

Have you gotten it yet? What do you think of it in person?
I recieved it about 4 days after purchase. I havent had the chance to fire it up yet, but will this weekend. I was impressed with how well they packaged it. The only chincy part of it seems to be the foot pedal. Amazon was carrying it for 775, same as ebay, but it was from the same distributor but eBay had a flash 15 percent off sale for 3 hrs that day.

That’s like 1/5 of Dynasty’s price. Cheap for a reason? I’d wait for the welder to mature before spending money. Could be a bargain if turns out okay.

What’s the package and padding like ? I am concerned since it is east to west coast if I order one.
Also how heavy is the welder. ?

The welder itself has a Styrofoam clamshell that encased it. The box has metal gussets in the corners, and the way everything is packaged, there are no empty voids to allow the items to move around inside the box.

lets be realistic...someone seriously shopping for a dynasty probably isn't considering this machine.

New shipment has arrived, you can purchase it at the primeweld website.
It tends to sell out in a few days so try to be decisive.

The seller say they get shipment every month, but we can see it is actually more like every 2+ month.

While its my first tig welder, I can say im pretty happy with the Primeweld so far. I have almost ran through a 125 cu ft bottle on mine learning to tig weld. The only negatives are that in AC it doesn't drop down as low, and the number increases as you raise the frequency. When turned to the max, the lowest amps achievable is around 32. My weldder lives in an unheated garage, and it has been cold in ky this winter. For some reason, if you turn it on immediately and try to weld, when you release the foot peddle it stays in run mode. The gas will stay flowing and it's live trying to strike an arc. It only happens when the temps are low, and I can avoid it by powering it on for 15 minutes or so before hitting the pedal. 31e5d65135d644d9d4ca33838e407151.jpg

I believe its the inverter that causes the amps to not drop as low when in AC. As the freq knob is turned, you can see the amps increase with it. As for the other issue, I believe its a condensation issue keeping it live after the pedal is hit. I guess i could try to replicate it with the finger switch to rule out the pedal on that issue

kb1982 since you are talking about AC, I assume you are welding aluminum?

How low are you needing to go? are you blowing through the material?

I know from using MIG, 30 amps is not very hot at all, depending on what we are working on I guess.

That's a nice price, but I would never be able to have any faith in the longevity of these Chinese welding machines. For that much money you're in or nearly in the price range of a used Squarewave 175, Precision Tig, Synchrowave, etc....

I did a quick search on those just curious, but didn't find any used.
say a lincoln precision TIG new for $2800, who is going to sell it for $800 unless it fell off the back of a truck and in really bad shape.

What I still do not understand is why decent low/middle TIG welders with "full controls", like the AlphaTIG 201XD (under $700) don't sell a spool gun attachment and add the MIG functionality into the box ?

There are dozens of spool guns to choose from all the way up to the Miller ArcReach® SuitCase® Feeder.

I don't think there is a market for that. You can get MIG welder that welds decent for a few hundred bucks.

Even when the Lincoln 210MP can add a TIG kit for a few hundred as well, but it's not really popular because it is somewhat lacking.

But that is the point ! The AlphaTIG 201XD is an "above average" TIG welder You should be able to add decent spool gun for a couple of hundred dollars. The rest is software to change from constant current to constant voltage control.

Admittedly most spool guns don't hold much wire, but you could always add a SuitCase feeder.

Kb1982 and xman_charl, now that it’s been a while how’s the Primeweld TIG working out? Any major issues?

I was searching various thread regarding a tig welder under $1k. I saw a couple of eastwood 200's for sale locally which got me started and I ended up pulling the trigger on an AHP 201XD. Shipped for $670 on their site. I'm really excited. There are quite a few entry level machines on the market right now so the decision wasn't easy.

Thank you all for the ideas and advice.

entry level machines = sucker level machines

Or that's my experience since I bought two entry level machines before buying a professional machine. Not in the same terms but the instructor at the welding class I took said basically the same thing.

I learned to TIG weld on my friend's Miller Syncrowave 210 and recently bought an AlphaTIG when he moved away. I've found the AlphaTig 201XD to do an excellent job for the price. I've welded a few bike frames with it along with a whole bunch of miscellaneous tasks and I really don't have any major complaints. It will weld 0.020" wall thickness 4130 tube just fine and I've had it well over 150 amps welding thick plate. I can't speak to long term durability of it yet, but from what I've read few people seem to have issues with them.

Well O.K

I have made enough money with my AHP to buy a Blue or Red painted machine

But I'm just going to go ahead and keep using the AHP. I did have to replace the torch body just last week after 3 years. $12.98 on amazon....
