Socket inserts

Found this today at my aunts place, looks vintage.Anyone used this before?

I have both metric and SAE sets. However, I've never used them.

I've a set of both. Put them in all my shallow sockets for a while. One by one I poked them back out again to regain the missing depth needed for full contact on very tight fasteners. They work and are sort of handy like twice a year but just take up too much room inside the socket. I need full contact in a socket a whole heck of a lot more than I need the magnet.

I bought a set a few weeks ago after I did the EGR valve on the Jeep and was cautioned to not lose the bolts (and it was a completely blind 3 bolt removal/replacement in the back of the engine procedure)...so I figured I'd get them for the $10 bucks or so for both sets...hopefully they come in handy...but we'll see.

I too had concerns about encroachment on available depth...if I remember...I'll post back after I give them a trial run

Those would have been awesome for an ecotec water pump. Dropped a bolt into a crevice above the oil pan but it took forever to figure out where it went and pulled the oil pan to

Hey some consider 90s stuff vintage just as kids think 40 is old.

Just did a 2004 Jeep Liberty radiator today. Used tape on the socket to put a bolt in on the passenger's side for the power steering cooler. It's a PITA place to get to and can't get to the bolt to turn it by hand.

This would have been cool but if I don't need it again in another month or so I don't need it. Tape on one bolt every month is cheaper than another gadget.

I’ve had sets of those in use for years... great little tool, I have them set up in my 3/8 shallow chrome in metric and sae. They get used pretty often and I have 3/8 impacts when I needs a socket without the interference. So no switching in the moment...

Occasionally I do have the clean out the magnet. All in all they’ve been very handy for certain jobs.

I have them and use them once in a while. I don't have too much of a problem on Depth, as I do having the magnet come out of the socket and stay on the bolt/nut.

I have switched over to using gray pneumatic's magnetic sockets. Love them. I ignore all my snap-on and others for these:
