Wow, what a score. Though, I'd be careful and take pics of everything and how it was left. I am not sure of the laws in your area, but you may have to deduct the value of the stuff from any monies he still owes you if he owed you money for rent/cleanup? Sounds like he was current on rent?
Or it could be a case of it's abandoned property so it's yours, no matter if he owes you money or not. Sounds like he left it as payment for skipping out and not cleaning up after himself. 15 years is a long time. He could've cherry picked and took the tools and box or sold them quick on CL.
What's the deal with renters? It's like they use moving as a chance to dump their belongings. Neighbor has a rental house next door to their house. The last renters were a nice young family who were there for 6 months. They moved out last month, and there's still a massive pile of junk on the curb. Not sure what the landlord neighbor is going to do with it. He should've had it hauled away by now or rent a dumpster. Though in this case, it looks like it's junk and trash. They could've been tossing a little out each week in their regular garbage pickup.
