Smitty congrats on the big Columbian! The 8” jaw vises keep eluding me hopefully I can find one one of these days!
Monster vises look great on the bench. That 608 looks like it’s in great condition btw.
Thanks Loydski, they’re rare as hens teeth for sure. I got lucky with this one.Smitty congrats on the big Columbian! The 8” jaw vises keep eluding me hopefully I can find one one of these days!
Is this a York 80 that they made for Millers Falls?
There is a tool store in Chicago that still has those on sale. I've seen a Made in Romania sticker on them. Were York vises made in Romania?

Hi Jeff, it’s a 19 1/2 that’s in great condition. The 18 and 23 are still eluding me.Is that the 23? If so, just one left to round out the family, right?

You're welcome buddy! It does look nice for sure. How was the drive? Might as well have been Mexico!
An extra hour with traffic but it was worth it. I’m going to do a light clean up on it tomorrow, I’ll post a couple of pics. You're welcome buddy! It does look nice for sure. How was the drive? Might as well have been Mexico!

The vise looks like it came out of a time capsule, very impressive. Finally got my $20 estate sale Prentiss 264 properly mounted, and took some new pictures to celebrate. Here it is in all its fully unrestored ~62-71 year old patina glory.
Has anyone ever determined when Parker stopped producing Prentiss vises? I remember reading that Parker bought Prentiss in 1948, but I could never find an answer as to how long they continued producing these Meriden Prentiss models. I would guess at the very latest they were discontinued when Parker got bought by Union.

Wow Gerard, Is there a mark on that Prentiss? Well Done!
My apologies KMScott. I made a mistake.
JW3The final resting place for dad’s Morgan. I even made a bolt on mount for the welding trailer.

TaumacI’ve been looking for one of these for awhile and finally found one this weekend.
OilyHi guys,
Long time lurker on this thread and after picking up an old vice today thought I'd best man up and post here.
I'd love a US vice but there really aren't that many here in the UK, might have to settle for a YORK rather than a WILTON and a RECORD over PARKER.
As I said picked up this old clamp-on hinged vice from a Carboot sale today, rusty and bent but functional for £4
Which had this strange mounting/backing plate wedged in (plus a nail!)
Spent the afternoon stripping, straightening, electrolysis and wire brushing it down
She's come up rather sweet with just a bit of Danish oil on the metal.
As to the rest of my vices, well they are all kind of small with that blue modern IRWIN as my daily and a couple of small modelling vices used as hanging points above my work bench....FYI if you ever have a small pot metal China model vice and are about to bin it...drill a hole in the jaw and use it as a lamp holder

Vise and stand for $75
I was first to respond to a C/L ad for a Reed 406r with stand.
A great big thank you to JZiggy for the tip.
Yeah, I had to drive 60 miles each way but that’s the way it goes sometimes.
This is how it looks after a quick wash down with my little electric pressure washer.

Columbian 606 just finished cleaning and painting
