Exciting day on Friday....got the concrete done just in the nick of time. Had two really cold days that kept the ground frozen so we could get the cement trucks 300' across the yard without sinking. Brought them in real early in the morning & within hours of them leaving the yard started to get real soft. Plus with the forecast I'm expecting the frost laws will go in effect Monday, if that happened I could've been sol for months.
440f2c85273e781498c28b5613f0b140.jpgNow we have nearly a week of 50 degree days so I won't have to burn through 100 gallons of diesel while it cures!

What you have accomplished looks good. I bet that insulation and frost free will come in handy. The previous owner of my house and building ran pipes to add a shower, toilet, and sink in my building (not hooked up to septic yet), but didn't account for water for some reason. Hopefully you keep on posting updates. Interested to see how you finish it out.

I'll be keeping it updated as I move along. Have the electrical service inspection this morning, if all goes well there I can have the power company bring the line from the pole in & I'll start wiring the interior. Then finish the walls & ceiling.

Mike, I need an update!

No kidding me too lol!
Well, shortly after my last post we got the meter installed, service run & panel installed. At that point life got in the way in the form of our second daughter being born & work getting insanely busy. I managed to pick away at running all the conduit for all of the circuits over the past year & ironically just got back out there last weekend to finally knock out pulling all the wire with the help of some great friends.
I’ll try to catch everyone up....

Had to persuade the little bit of frost that had set in to get the service line trenched.

Had some help with that from my sidekick

Went with a free standing meter that way I only had to pay the PoCo to run the service 10’ from the pole & I could take care of the 110’ from there to the barn. Got the panel in & one temp circuit wired so I could at least use extension cords to work in there.
I’m going to be finishing off the interior with drywall & I can’t stand conduit on the walls but I like having the ability to add on or modify later if need. Sooo, in my typical OCD fashion I decided to pipe it all inside the wall cavity [emoji51]

Not much went on after that for quite some time.
....until last weekend. Everything pipped & almost all of the wire pulled. 23 circuits so far! [emoji16]

Even stuck a couple of the lights up temporarily. 8 LED tubes seems to light up a decent area so the 112 I have planned should do the trick!

My work was in the process of changing all 4 of our buildings completely to LED lighting including new fixtures so I scored 30 8’ T8 fixtures for free! I bought tombstone kits to convert them to 4 tube & ordered 5k direct wire LED tubes. With the help of my 5 year old daughter we stripped all the ballasts & wiring & my two buddies helped install all the new tombstones last weekend.

You and I really are brothers from another mother.

I'm super excited to see this idea completed.

Lol I think the same about most of the stuff you post[emoji23]

I can’t stand the idea of all that clutter on the wall & want to be able to expand easily if needed so Romex is out. Why not spend way more money & time doing it like this?...makes logical sense in my head!

A little more detail on the wiring...
For the 120v outlets I set 4” square boxes every 8’ at around 42” high with dual outlets. Each run goes around the perimeter high on the wall & has a box where it drops down for that circuit. The Boxes high on the wall will get blank covers to allow future access if needed.
Put in 3 separate 50A circuits throughout for the welders & plasma cutter. 40A for the compressor that will be walked off in its own room. Also ran circuits for furnace, hoist, attic lighting, door opener, rotary phase converter used for my mill & lathe. Putting on exterior outlets in each side & an RV outlet where I plan to park my trailer next to the barn.

For lighting I have all of the overhead lights on 2 banks. The other 4 switches will be for ceiling fan, front exterior lights, walk through door exterior light & a spot light off the rear corner.

Been a while since I’ve updated this! Life continues to get in the way so it’s been slow going but I’m sticking to my guns to not make companies & do things exactly how I want them the first time.
Got 90% of the electrical finished. Had some time off work & 5 awesome friends that spend an entire day last week helping knock out hanging all of the drywall on the ceiling. Spent all day glueing & screwing that up then treated ourselves by breaking into a bottle of Blanton’s [emoji16]
Picking up the drywall for the walls this afternoon & planning another drywall party in a few weeks to get that up. ad45f82886aa99fe5251c18b55a9b92f.jpg2ac88d00f04441041ea487f287e321da.jpgb93406d74bcab2eab4fe0350309911d1.jpgd61736ecdd523fa9ef3b5880bf06db73.jpg3c3a5d7e31d9b51c506a907ff73c7122.jpg

Another long Saturday with some friends & we knocked out hanging 95% of the walls!! I don’t think they like me enough to help mud it though [emoji23] Hell I don’t like me enough to mud it!9c9eec7ffe39f5e5026e4dd74aec7c74.jpg7a69e08a7131dcf4695e52bd0c44a1bd.jpg340a73423eecc1ed95749d64f94fe873.jpg

that is a lot of drywall, I think the only people who are going to like you enough to do that are the kind that get paid.

We're still talking about drywall finishing right?

I agree! In this case it’s money well spent, I have no desire to do the finish work on this one!!

Got a nice surprise in the form of a 50 degree day & my spray foam guys were able to arrange their schedule to take advantage of it two weeks earlier than we had planned for! Can't say enough good things about them, they did an awesome job. 68090c930b5bbf22fad9cd5f8d6113cf.jpgfcac7aca2c2981ad83e6da20bf136d51.jpg

I am curious, how thick is your foam insulation?

A couple minor updates. Got the last few pieces of drywall up & exterior lights installed.

I wanted the gooseneck lamps mounted flush the siding without a box on the surface so of course that made things more complicate but hey I’ve come this far why compromise now. Centering the light over the service door landed right on a rib, naturally. I searched high & low & cant believe they don’t make a plinth block for this exact situation, doesn’t seem like it would be that uncommon. Ended up using a 4” PVC end cap to fabricate my own. Worked out nicely!f1f310e2b7e502d6fd0a33d285a87b9e.jpg

Great looking building and great solution to your lighting problem. Very hard to believe that nobody make a solution to this problem. I did the same but with composite decking material. Used 2 layers of 3/4", the 1st was cut at a 45 degree angle to be placed where the rib was and the 2nd was to give a flat surface to mount the light.
