I have some rainwater coming off the roof into a 55 gallon drum. I want to pump it out about 30 feet to a larger reservoir. Whats is a cheap pump I can experiment with? I would say a submersible 4 foot lift would do. Does not have to be fast.

Whats the elevation difference between the roof and the desired reservoir?

30' at 1/4"/ft slope means a pipe could be pitched 7.5" total over the 30' run and thus no pump needed.

Harbor freight has the cheapest sump pumps last time I was shopping. They are measured in horsepower. The box will say how much lift it has which is about how high it will go. Get a size bigger then you think you need.

I used a Little Giant pond pump (submersible) to get a lot of rainwater out of my foundation trenches. The mud eventually killed it but it did the job. Purchased on Amazon.

Thanks fellow members that helps. I need one with about 4 feet of lift so I will start looking. I bet I will only use it 5 to ten times a year.

Can you use a smaller collection tank, maybe 30 gallons, and mount it on a platform 5 feet off the ground? Then just run a hose from the bottom of the collection tank to the larger tank. Can the larger tank be lowered a couple of feet so that the platform for the collection tank doesn't need to be so high?

If you decide to use a pump, do you want it to be automatic or do you want to turn it on and shut it off manually? In addition to submersible pumps (manual and automatic), there are also portable water transfer pumps (manual and automatic) which would work for your situation.

I like the idea of raising the 55 gal drum 4.5 to 5 feet and letting gravity do the work.

Dont buy those small plastic HF fountian pumps. They have like a 4ft max head. This means at 4ft you get little to no flow.

Get a pump with a float switch, will make your life way easier.
