After that it was time to get the tyvek on and start trimming out the gable ends while I waited for a roof to go on. I was going to roof it myself but was running out of time and fall was starting to turn into cold weather. One thing I did change was the man door from 6'8 to 8'.

Nice looking shop, and I love the jeep. I just purchased my first jeep, well technically my second (first one was 59 Willys Wagon), but my 98 TJ Sahara is my new baby (that needs quite a bit of work). I'll be following along for the shop and the jeeps.

My guess is that you'd give your left nut to have the '59 wagon back...:)

Long story, but yeah...I wish I had it back. My dad was listed on the title with me, and without getting into the family drama, we will just say that he decided to part with it and forgot to tell me.

Plus, I have four kids, an I'm not using the left nut anymore anyway.

Moving on in the build...

Building something like this mostly by yourself is very rewarding, no matter how idiotic your wife may think you are...

With my soffits completely done I could breath a little easier as the roofing supplies were on the way. The day after they loaded the roof, the garage doors were installed. Windows were delivered as well, just had to find time to get them installed without catching bad weather. I wanted to get dried in ASAP as I knew cold weather was right around the corner. The screwed up the door order twice, so that was the main hold up.

I went with a 16x9 and a 10x10 door, both insulated. The 10x10 goes straight up to about a foot from the ceiling. They will both have Liftmaster 8500w jackshaft openers so I won't have the track in the way. The photos were taken after electrical was installed but those were all I really had of them.

Another pic of the views we get in the great state of Colorado when four wheeling! Against my better judgement, I included a pic of a JK :D

Wait a minute, against your better judgment posting a picture of a JK? What the hell?????:headscrat I resemble that comment.:lol_hitti

Chinaman Gulch is one that I haven't done yet. We wheel in the Ouray/Silverton area quite a lot and my wife and I usually host an RV/Jeep rally there every August. Love wheeling in that area.

I just spent the last couple of hours going through your build....skipping some pages and I'm still only at page 65. Very nice place to say the least. The second I put up an RV space I would have three friends asking if they could store their boats there lol. I didn't see it anywhere, but how many yards of concrete did you end up using on the driveway?

Thank you. Thanks for taking the time to peruse my shop build. If you want to see more Jeep stuff, check out both my Shop Projects and Shop Projects 2.0 threads. Although much of the Jeep stuff is now geared around JK/JKU's with a little TJ and WJ stuff mixed in, so you may not find them as interesting.:lol_hitti

As for concrete, if memory serves I think I had just over 100 yards in the driveway and shop approach, not including the shop itself.

Just started looking at your Jeep build....great...I was going to go out and work on my shop some more but you just took a half hour away from that:beer:

Very nice fab work, love the welds! I only wish I was half as good as that!:bowdown:

It's nice to see others not afraid to set gears and fab stuff up. I love doing gears and suspension stuff.

I'll mosey through more as I find down time. I always give JK'rs **** but we're all the same family.

Thanks. I like giving non-JK'ers **** as well so it all works out.

It's easy to give JKs ****, especially those JKUs carrying more in aftermarket accessories than I paid for my TJ, and they have obviously never been offroad.

Now, there are plenty of people that use their JKs, but Plenty that don't.

I'll admit, there are a lot of JKU mall crawlers out there. Believe me, I get accused of that all too often because of how clean and damage free it is. Like I've said before, I drive mine like a baby carriage off-road and don't flog on it. I also don't have every bolt on accessory on mine, I'm under the philosophy of less is more and if it doesn't serve an actual purpose I don't need it.

Sorry Jeep Builder, I didn't mean to hi-jack your thread.

You didn't hi-jack it, that's what the thread is here for. To follow my modest shop build and talk everything jeeps and offroad.

People can build their stuff the way the want. If they want a mall crawler, more power to them. That's what makes it fun. And yes, I will still make fun of the JK's (until I get one) just as the YJ's make fun of the TJ's. We're all family! And look at the bright side JK'rs, you can make fun of the JL's now:beer:

Next was getting the roof installed. They beat the bad weather by only a couple of days. After that, I finished up the gable ends and soffits before they were ready to put stucco on. I decided to paint it at that point as well So I could just be done with it minus some touch ups.

It sat like that for another couple of weeks waiting for the stone and stucco crew to come do their thing. They got paper and mesh up and waited another week to start. I was ok with it though as I (and my neighbors) was just plain tire of of looking at tyvek:) At some point in this process I got the coach lights installed and also made the corbels for the gable ends.

What is the reason behind the two different size doors?

The short answer is because I can :bounce:

The door on the left is 16x9 and the one on the right is 10x10.

I'm installing a lift in the 10x10 bay. The garage doors on my house are only 8 ft tall. I had a flag attached to the back of my Jeep and it caught the weather stripping as I pulled in. So, I said that wouldn't happen in the new shop!

Most of the vehicles I work on are taller than normal so I wanted to go with bigger doors. I wanted to go with two 10x10 doors and have a big space in the middle for a welding table etc. but ultimately decided the larger door for more versatility in moving stuff in and out.

The shop turned out fantastic. I really like the overall view with the house. I love it when the shop (detached building) looks identical to the house and ties everything together. Our last place with the 34x34x14 shop I did the same thing by building it like the house with same siding, corner moldings and shingles. When we bought our new home I was originally going to go with a metal sided pole building to keep costs down but the wife wanted the shop to look identical to the house (plus it was required by the CC&R's that were in place) and I am so glad we did as it looks so much better than it would have looked.

It looks like you have a very nice place there and you should be proud of it.

Subscribed. I have a JKR 2 door and love it. Only on 33's as the wife can barely get in as it is. A lift and taller tires would put me in the permanent dog house so I run as a "low rider". I love your setting, very beautiful views.

I hear ya Dan. My wife is somewhat vertically challenged as well (although she doesn't think she is) and I'm still hearing about stepping to 37's and I have to get a stool out for her to get in. Funny, it's only an inch higher than before but you'd never know it by the way she is carrying on about it. I keep telling her to just wait until we get it off-road and she will be singing a different tune.:D

Thanks for the compliments. I would have gone with a pole barn but the covenants require it to match the house. It made it a whole lot more expensive, but I'm with you, it does look a ton better. I'll get the landscaping done in the spring.

You two speaking of vertically challenged cracks me up. I'm 6'4 and my wife is only 5'1. You should see her trying to get into that thing. I usually help her. I wanted to removed the step portion of my sliders for clearance but she needs it to get in:D

Nice shop!

I too have a TJ (bought new, one owner -- me!) that I've 'modified' slightly.

Unfortunately, ever since I bought my Can Am Maverick rc X3, the Jeep sits. I decided I like going fast and can still crawl with the rc when necessary...

Whoa guys I'm late to the Jeep party. No one had the decency to remember those of us that wheel in coal country? Haha.

Jeeps, trails and shop all look superb OP. Even that JK I guess.;)

Couldn't help but enjoy the TJ raising the walls. Nothing you can't accomplish in a TJ eh?

Everything I do is slow. My Jeep is slow, my expedition is slow, my wife's Subaru is slow. Hell, even my fire engine is slow. That's one reason I like the jeep...pull the top and doors off and it feels like you're going fast....kind of...

I'm telling you, that winch made framing a one man job!
