Holy coincidences, Batman! Three years ago I bought one exactly like that out of a set of three at a moving sale in Reading, MA. I wonder if the old guy moved to Florida and those are the other two...!

Here's mine: what do you think?

That's cool, I've never seen any like these before. They're built like a tank

Well, my wife and I have a Florida vacay planned for October. If you're interested in parting with them then, I'd love to reunite these three clamps. I've always regretted not buying the other two.

Picked up this 1/2 HP Kalamazoo grinder/sander combo. Just need to pick up some belts.

I was traveling today and stopped at a few places to look. The one thing I bought (small Craftsman underline DBE) I left in my vehicle and don’t have a pic. So here is just a small sample of what I didn’t buy.

Here’s a really old grinder. Foot-powered.
And a Champion Blower. Love that name.
And a Dunlap treadle sewing machine. I guess that doesn’t have anything to do with the Sears brand.
The barn loft was poorly lit, and PACKED with variously overpriced automotive signs and agricultural machine parts.

Continued going through my haul today. I sorted all of the sockets into Impact and non-impact bins for now pending further sorting. TONS of USA brands, just about every major brand and mostly Proto, Armstrong and Williams.

Here's some pics. A whole bin of Milton air inflators, air gauges, and blow guns.

A pile of adjustable wrenches including a 15" Craftsman, a 16"Proto, a huge RIGID pipe wrench, and 2 Crescent adustables.

And one tool that I have no idea what it is. I dont believe it is automotive related though. Any ideas?

Thanks Duddly. I never would have guessed. I have no idea what a tack and staple tool has to do with leather work though???

I just spent about three hours finishing up a cursory sorting job. I also separated the 1/2" impact sockets into SAE and Metric, shallow and deep piles. The next task is to separate into manufacturers and try to compile sets. I also located about 10 sets of Craftsman -V- and -VV- flare nut wrench sets.

I did find this unusual old tool. I cleaned it up and could barely read the stamping but it says XCEL Adjustable Socket Rench, Park Metalware Co. Orchard Park, NY Patented Aug. 23, 1927 No. 1.639.831

It's an adjustable wrench. The handle spins and the top opens much like a screw type pipe wrench. Very interesting. I am going to try an find out more about this one. Anyone have any info?

That’s another Xcel wrench from Orchard Park NY. I think Lugz found one about a week ago.
Yup.

I started a thread on the Vintage Board, linked here.

I picked these up Wednesday.
It was a lady who's husband had died and she was going to a retirement home. Her son was handling the sale. I went there Tuesday for a little bit and found a few things but he would go ask her ask her to approve prices but she kept saying no. I had to leave but it was not far from my home thankfully.

I went back Wednesday to take a longer look. The son was trying to keep her from pricing every little item and wanted to sell stuff in bigger lots, $100 plus, so she would stay out of the garage LOL. I ended up spending $200 even.

Pic 1: So my best find of the day was this 1/2 HP heavy duty Craftsman block grinder with the 7" wheels and dust shields with exhaust ports. It is in great shape and the eye shields are in good shape, the light has the black plastic cover on it, the water tray is the large one and it even has all 4 rubber feet! They were asking $250 but after some talking with the son got it for $65.

Pic 2 and 3: Craftsman tools, ranging from "V" to -V- and -VV- and G.

Pic 4: Eaz Lift truck hitch, missing a few pieces which I can locate, it will be a flip.

Pic 5 and 6: Small hand brake, made by the husband. It clamp in a vise with a ridge on the bottom.

Pic 7: All the other small tools. From top left: Large Snap-On chisel and flip blade screwdrivers, SK Phillips driver, Proto 1/4" flex extension, Plomb 9/32" extension ground on the male end and crushed on the female end to fit 1/4" tools and Plomb 1/4 flat tip bit, pair of Klein pliers, Hobul Industries USA tap tool, Indestro 11mm socket, Blackhawk early socket and a pair of DBE wrenches and an Apex Allen bit holder.
From top right: Wright impact socket, Stevens Walden nut drivers and 1/4" to 3/8" adapter, Xcelite USA adjustable wrench, X-Acto blades and Bondhus ball end Allen wrenches.

I managed to go through a few more bins real quick before work. I'm hooked!!!

Lots of top names but only one Snap On :(

Proto, Armstrong, Billings, Bonney, Thorsen, Blackhawk, Allen, Martin USA, Barcalo, Hazet, Matco, Mac, Dowidat Tools, Etc Etc.

I see a big Plomb box end wrench in there and maybe an even bigger Plomb underneath it.

Nice. Are you selling those metric Craftsman nut-drivers?

Was at an estate cleanout going through the kitchen drawers looking for a spatula....
How much for this screwdriver?
What will you pay?
Five bucks?
Sold.
I've never run into this square shank set,
Unfortunately missing one of the driver pieces, & one is snapped off.
A snapped off Snap-on..... (I amuse myself easily):)
Stuffed into the last slot a Millers Falls nail set, & a cool little Craftsman Phillips screwdriver.

Nice score 3jakes. You never know what’s in those kitchen junk drawers. I was happy to find the pouch to complete that driver set recently as well.

Craigslist find here. Haven’t been on there in a bit, and rarely find something worth buying! It was a one pic wonder ad, but I was more than happy when I picked it up and saw the condition of everything. I really wanted the Herbrand ratchet. It’s a beaut and works like new. :)

3/4 drive Herbrand (Bonney) ratchet
Herbrand extension
Craftsman extension
Craftsman sockets
Williams socket
Armstrong adapter

I worked high voltage substation construction, we made tools to bend ground cable into 90 degree bends. Usually a chunk of threaded pipe and a tee with the side cut out.:beer:

Estate sale with a lot of machinists tools this morning. Drove an hour to get there and was #3 in the door. Nice Mitutoyo 8" caliper, Starrett pin punch set and parallels like new. Some Starrett and Lufkin steel rules, some loose punches, couple of Snap-on 3/8dr Phillips head sockets, Mac 13/16 socket, couple of short Snap-on wrenches and a 1/4dr Williams that's like new! Also a cool looking wooden drill guide. The Snap-on hex set turned out to be a bunch of other manfs and only 2 Snap-ons. The Cornwell hex set not marked Cornwell on any of the hex wrenches but the holder & set look pretty good. The telescoping Gage Set turned out to be the Famous No-Name manufacturer.

I’ve bought so many pliers in the last few months, I’m beginning to think there should be a vintage pliers discussion thread.
I didn’t buy these, but I do want to discuss them.
Harrold.
So far noted for cheap-looking “gull-wing” slipjoints and their Sears kiddie-clones, Happi-Time.
These are different, interesting slipjoints - parrot-beak on their way to being water-pump.
But the secondary forging on the grips is what caught my eye. Kind of dresses them up, even though the business end still looks like stamped steel.

Very slim pickings today. Right when I arrived I saw the Craftsman sander I went to the sale for sitting at the checkout table with a sold sign on it. Oh well. I checked out the place and came up with these few items. At least the sander buyer left a belt for me. The second picture is a couple P&C drivers in need of some love and the third picture is the Craftsman stuff. I sniffed the handles and they weren’t stinkdrivers so maybe they weren’t made by Xcelite.

Shoot I just got three of the same screwdrivers! I need to go look for some more blades!

One of my fines from a couple weeks ago off let go.
2-6 foot bar clamps. I love the way these all plants are built.

Nice, CB! Emeraldcoupe just posted pics of a nearly set of Cincinnati Tool Co clamps just a few days ago.

Excellent collection of precision tools, rickster!

LS, the Pliers thread is actually a good idea. so many different uses and while a terrible tool in general for nuts and bolts, invaluable for some jobs! They probably get more respect than adjustable wrenches, but not by much!

I like that pair of Harrolds you found. a nice WIDE grip; so more pressure can be applied. (One of the main benefits of plastic coated grips)

HS - Did I infect another soul with "Brass Hose Nozzle" syndrome? Nice find! Many of these simply need a new O-ring and some love to be like new again!

Found this at a trailer park yard sale.
I can’t make out the brand, there’s a extra insert in a bag marked Ken Tool.

Any ideas of brand?

Notice the warning? I wonder if I can leave socket on if I use a impact?
