Nepros.net is your best source here in the states. You will pay more if you order from Japan.

I was in Tokyo a few weeks ago and found the supply and pricing of Koken tools not particularly good. So I was poking around Amazon Japan and they now have a decent supply of Koken stuff and the pricing is pretty good, a bit better than the internet only pricing of shops like Straight Tool or Ehime Machine. Shipping took 4 days to get to Maryland, no customs fees, no foreign currency fees, cost about $17 on a $140 or so order. Anyway, got a couple ratchets, a low profile socket set, and a 3/8 universal.

It is my understanding, that for amazon.co.jp you need a separate login. For whatever reason Amazon JP is not linked liked the DE, CA, and UK sites.

Zip tie cutters from Tsunoda. Made in Japan. Flush cutting with a notch in the jaws for grasping the tie to pull it nice and tight.

Sent from my VTR-L09 using The Garage Journal mobile app

Is it a true flush cut? Pics on Amazon looks like it's not, but since you have it in your hands you could verify if it is or not.

Nice feature and good size, but need to be true flush cut for me to buy it. Leaving sharp stubs on ty-raps is a hanging offence in my business!

My favourite destination for tool shopping in Japan, Otani Tool store, is no longer with us. It's a sad thing.

Such a shame. I was in japan 4 years ago, but did not visit a single tool shop. To caught up with Hazet/Stahlwille at the time. Now I am much more prone to buy Ko-ken, KTC and Tone tools. Thanks for sharing!

Does any one have any experience with Trusco wrenches? I can't seem to find a catalog or English tool site (the closest I can find is MiSUMi). I am looking at their 15* extra long box end wrenches. I know everyone is familiar with their cantilever boxes, but what about their wrenches? General quality and are they made in Japan?

Just received this nice little reversible ratchet wrench set from Tone -- the RMR110.

View media item 90547
The set consists of 11 metric reversible ratcheting combination wrenches (8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 21 mm) in a very nicely made metal box.

View media item 90550
The box has all metal fittings (hinges, latches, and handle) and foam inserts which are easily removable. This was great for me because I was looking for a box of about this size for other purposes.

The wrenches themselves have a beautiful satin finish with stamped size markings. The open ends are the traditional type, smooth and flat.

The ratcheting end is offset 13 degrees. The direction lever is metal and flips back and forth smoothly with a positive click. It is also flush with the top surface of the wrench to prevent snagging. The ratchet mechanism is 72-tooth with a nice smooth action. Backdrag is pretty low (lower than Tone's socket ratchet handles).

The 12-point ratcheting box end is also fitted with a springy internal C-ring. It actually has two purposes: it helps to prevent the wrench from slipping down over the bolt head or nut during tightening, and it can also be used to hold a nut inside the wrench without it falling out if you're working in a confined space.

I guess the only minor disappointment I have with this set is that it skips 9 mm, 11 mm, and 20 mm, and Tone doesn't even make matching individual wrenches in those sizes, so you can't fill out the set even if you're willing to buy the missing sizes separately. (But I guess that's just my OCD talking.)

Oh yeah, for those who care about such things, there is no indication of COO on the wrenches, box, or packaging. I'll guess Taiwan.

Thanks for sharing, I like the idea of the spring C clip. They look a lot like my FACOM 467 set. Check it out and see if you agree on the appearance and finish

Thanks for posting this info, Qualitytools. The appearance is so similar that I'm going to check out whether I can use Facom to fill in the skipped sizes of the Tone set. My OCD will be put to rest then -- except for the missing C-clips!

I have this same set and what is clear is that it is not manufactured in Japan, although the quality does not deserve any reproach, except for those measures that are missing.

I was looking to buy a 3/8" socket set in a box for my car for an emergency. Just looking for metric (Subaru) and was thinking either going Koken or Nepros. Is the Nepros really worth double the cost? Looking at Koken 3286Z vs Nepros NTB3X26AZ. The Nepros is a bit more complete with deep sockets but for the price difference it doesn't seem worth it.

For an emergency tool kit< i would't spend Koken let alone Nepros money. Besides Subarus don't break down.

On a side note, those tone ratcheting wrenches closely resemble OEM Tools ratcheting wrenches down to the spring clip in the boxed end.:headscrat

Vessel has started making sets for sale, the have 2 different 3/8" drive sets around the $100 mark. JDV is the US distributor for Vessel products and stocks the stuff here in the USA. I just ordered the 1/4" drive kit this past Friday.

I was able to sample a bunch of Tone ratchets a few weeks ago in Tokyo, meaning a dozen variants. Was rather surprised at the back drag on every one of them. They felt strong and reasonably smooth, but the back drag was really stiff and I mean stiff. For me, not appealing.
