Was browsing Facebook and saw these two adds coming up always from me up in Ohio if anyone is looking to buy a 7” at a fair price or an 8” at a hefty one 😁. Just thought I’d throw em up for your amusement
I’ll take the Prentiss.

This Czech immigrant arrived in the mail today. Pretty happy with it.

Should I paint the Wilton red? Lol

It seems like baby Prentiss vises are coming out of the woodwork and for high dollars.

Zoomie, you don't see many baby Prentiss beat to pieces, sawed on, ground on, used for welding, or broke in half and repaired.---Just goes to show you the differance between being tapped on with a baby ball peen weighing a few ozs. and a 16 lb. sledge that a 250 lb. monster gets whacked with.---Love the eye candy.---You have enough bears to start your own football team.:D

Nice vise. two model numbers the same yet a different base setup. Messes up the Spreadsheet. Three awesome Parker vises and all heavy. Wrenchguy if you need a swivel pin I could make a spare since I need one.

Kevin,

Maybe you can salvage it by labeling one "v1" and the other "v2" to distinguish between the two numbers?

I have to post more pictures of that York 80. I'm just stunned how clean the thing is! Looks like someone barely used it.

I knew you had more than a few, but that shot of all of them together blows me away!

Honza:
That indeed looks to be a very low mileage York 80. Nice score! Is postage and customs a problem with buying stuff from foreign countries?

Smitty:
That’s a mighty fine looking Gipsy! I’ve been looking for one for a long time.

This one got here in 6 days and apparently customs did not delay it. On the other hand I have another vise stuck in customs since Feb 8 where it's most likely just sitting. So I'm not sure what conclusion to make from that.

Thanks. It’s an interesting piece of history, I was lucky to find it.

I clicked on a C/L ad for a four foot vise.

Here’s the pic. Looks like somebody can’t spell.

Anyone got a guess on the size of this thing? I'm not going any higher on the bid unless you guys can convince me it's an 8"er...…...

Twertsy: looks like a 6 incher to me too. if it helps that design where the jaws are bolted in from the back is one of Wilton's better designs and not sure why they didn't do it on all their bullets.

hard to see with my old eyes if that is water drops or welding splatter on top of the jaws and vise, but vise looks in pretty decent condition and probably weighs about 140 pounds without the stand.

good luck

Shift: now I'm going to have to start searching for VASES since the sellers might misspell it that way? :bounce:

I think it's a 6" also. I have a Wilton 600 and proportionally it looks similar. The 800's look really long no matter what era they were from.

Here is a pic I saved of Smitty's (hope he doesn't mind). I saved it because I thought it was a good pic to show differences in scale of large Wilton vises. The 2nd vise is an 800 and the one furthest away in the pic is a 600. The 800's have a long tail behind the flat surface (I refuse to call it an "anvil" lol). 40f2db6fa2982ecd5519bc705c00d95c.jpg

I put them side by side for a better look. The 800 is 67lbs heavier. I’m pretty sure it’s a 6” Wilton that’s in the photo in question.

Oranized to go see a HB Smith 1A today. It was advertized for $45. I was the first caller, and met the seller at 2pm. First he tells me that online selling is b.s. and that "about 6 people" said they were coming this morning but didn't show. I thought "Wait, didn't you tell me - the first caller - to see you this afternoon?" Next he said as I was driving the 35minutes to his place someone had emailed him an offer for $75.

I looked at it and told him to take it. It was missing the front jaw, the front pipe jaw and the back jaw had a chunk out of the corner. The jaws are like mini Parker jaws so not trivial to make.

Shift, was the $75 guy you? I know you have one and had a few bits missing.

No it certainly wasn’t. And furthermore, I don’t overbid in situations like that. It goes against my grain.

Here is mine. Good memory! It is missing the pipe jaws and some mounting hardware. Here is a pic of it in its as-found condition.
