It’s a noble thing to do, gifting a vise to a friend on a special occasion. I hope your buddy doesn’t consider it so nice as to never put it to use. Even if he does, it will look great on ANY workbench!

Many of us have more vises than we could possibly use, but have our favorites or merely the most useful mounted for “daily driver” work. I find that a combination vise works the best for my purposes. I have a Wilton C1 mounted up on my main bench. I am planning to mount my 10 inch Abernathy undermount woodworkers vise on my smaller, roll around workbench. Often that kind of vise works best for holding chunks of wood or other objects.
Most of my 75 other vises sit up on shelves.
