Are you guys sure you're pulling on the drawers hard enough? Some of the drawers on my series 1 44" bottom box do not come all the way out unless I pull on them hard. There's a stop when I pull on them like a normal person, but to get them out the rest of the way, I need to yank on them pretty hard.

Finally received my box this weekend! Replace ALL the casters with new swivel casters so I could park it in its spot . Had some squeaks when opening the drawers. It bothered me so I started investigating , and I found that where the rails connected to the cabinet and drawers in the back needed grease. I did ALL of them. NO more squeaks!!

I have the same squeak issue but lubing up the rails was not the fix for me.
For me the issue is the mounting clips of the rails having too much play - in drawers AND in the cabinet walls. Opening & closing produces a 1-2 short mouse-like squeaks.

I guess I could remove them and bend the clip to minimize tolerances, but *zzz*,
lubing the bone dry rails already took a while...

What casters did you use to replace them? Home depot?

I’ve found the best fix is to just drill a hole or two and fasten the rails with rivets. Keeps the rails from moving in the slots, and depending on the factory, many boxes come with rails already riveted. I tried just bending the tabs tighter on mine and it didn’t help.

Swivel casters on all four corners is always the first thing I do with a toolbox.

I replaced mine with some swivel casters from Harbor Freight. No brakes but there's no hills in my garage.

I got them from Surpluscenter.com. From research I found from here https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=7546044#post7546044all 5x2 on 4x4.5 plates with slotted holes work. Thats what I bought, with a phenolic wheel

That's a great idea, I tried bending them also and it didn't work. If they start squeaking again I will rivet them.

Finally got around to transferring the contents of my husky 26"top/bottom combo over to the Harbor freight 44" and all my drawers have the squeaking too. I had to do some measuring and took the handle off to get it into position in my garage and it's actually only 42" without the handle. I think calling it a 44" box is a little misleading but I'm sure all the other manufacturers do it too.

Has there been any advertising of this sale?

hey guys, I am looking at picking one of these up but wanted to see about the size of the box... (assuming they are in stock)
Can these be transported on their side and does anyone have the outside dimensions of the shipping box?
I am hoping it will fit in the back of my durango, but have a 4x8 trailer if necessary (although its a pain to get out right now)..
Thx

I just picked up a 26" box and there was probably an extra 1.5" on each side of the box, maybe 2" on top and bottom. No casters were on it.

I don't see why they couldn't be transported on their back. You will need to open it up and take out the contents of the drawers first (keys, manuals, handle, hardware, and the drawer liners) to keep them from falling behind the drawers. The 44" box comes on a "pallet" with the casters already installed.

i just paid $449 for the box last week, has anyone had any luck with getting a price adjustment for a parking lot sale price?

I think if you go in on Friday and ask them they will probably honor the price for you.

I presaled one at full price on 3/1/2019 and the manager said come back on during the sale and they will get me the sale price.

I brought home a 44 on it’s back in my wife’s RAV4, but I took it out of the pallet to check for damage before loading it up. I can’t see why it wouldn’t fit in a Durango. They come with castors already installed.

I put a series I in the back of a Honda Pilot. Here's an easy tip to make it easier. Series II will just sit a little higher.
I put down three HF packing blankets. One all the way in, one hanging over the tailgate and one on the ground if you care about the finish on the box. If you have a metal tailgate latch that sticks up, cover with a few layers of cardboard before putting down the blanket.
Get 2- 26" wide (or wider) pieces of 2" PVC pipe.
Un-crate the toolbox and stand on end (fixed casters up) after removing drawer contents.
Lean box back against tailgate. (load in fixed casters first, moving casters will swing down and get in the way of the PVC pipes)
Place 2" PVC at the edge of the tailgate.
Lift box and pivot up with leading edge landing on PVC.
Push box in, PVC won't stay with the front edge, but will make it easier to get the box beyond the balance point.
Have helper place second PVC pipe through back door of car and roll the box all the way in.
Flip blankets up on the end to pad against tailgate door.
Go home and enjoy your new box!

I've used this method on moving three gun safes and the 44" Series I. Just take strong help to lift/pivot the bottom of the box. I did the first two gun safes into a minivan with myself and the guy at Sam's club. The bigger safe was a little harder because the trailer was low. But I had three young guys helping. The 44" was me and the wife. She couldn't believe how easy it went.

Does anyone know if you can pre order the new colors for the 44" this weekend? I've been holding out for yellow, and it looks like it is finally coming. At $399 I might be tempted get two.....

ok guy's, 2 quick questions?

1) does the handle come off of the 44" box?

2) If so does anyone know the measurement of the box without the handle or is 44" the box measurement not including the handle

Thanks in advance, I have a 42 " space and closest HF is a hour and a half away

I think the box is 42" and the handle is the extra 2". It comes without the handle installed, packed in a separate box.

Yes, it is 42" without the handle.

sidenote, they price adjusted the box I bought in January to the 399 parking lot price today. 90 days is what I was told for price adjustments.

I went in the first hour of the sale on Friday. Zero red boxes in stock out of all 3 stores within 45 minutes of me.

I called and my local store did not have any in stock either. They told me if I came in I could pre-purchase it at the sale price and they would let me know when it came in. So that's what I did. A part of me thinks I should have got the 56". But in the end the 44" at $399 was too good a deal to pass up. Will add the top chest this spring.

Bought mine back on Jan 5th. Store was out of stock of red a week earlier. Manager told me HF is pushing blue and black and not shipping out as many red boxes.

Went to the local harbor freight here and they only had one in stock. Wouldn’t let me order or honor the price at a later date. Ended up find 2 more in stock about 45 minutes north of here so I picked them up.

Does anyone know if HF will price match the 399 if I bought it a week ago? Didn't see the sale from early March. If not no biggy, just would save 50ish.
