Hollands made an offset years ago.---Hard to say who copied who.
Look on page 67, post 1327 for the story.

What is the back story on your Hollands, Royce?

Nope, you can bid now but the shipping would kill me lolThat's probably because the auction doesn't start for another 1 day 3 hours

Thanks for popping in with the back story on that beautiful and rare Holland’s offset.![]()

Here is a mystery for you guys...
I just picked up this “Perfect” vise. Model No.1
3 1/4 inch wide jaws, 7 1/2 pounds
Might this be from the same English company (Parkinson’s) that made mostly woodworking vises marked “Perfect”? The Parkinson’s machinist vises that I found online were enclosed screw models that were similiar to the other English vises, Record and Paramo.
I can’t see any country of origin markings. Maybe some “counterfeiter” just latched onto the “perfect” moniker.
Have any of you seen one of these before?

I looked through the Parkinson’s 1940 catalog and didn’t see a model like this one, their lower end ones resemble Records.

Thanks VA. I must admit, pipe jaws are my Bermuda Triangle when it comes to vises. They always seem to go missing.Smitty, nice Columbians.---You're just 6 pipe jaws shy of awsome.
Nice Wilton, Andrew.---5'' is a perfect working size all around.![]()

Thanks again VA. Congrats, it looks like you guys are going to the big dance.Smitty, that Baldor makes up for the lack of P jaws.---That just hit awsome.![]()
Here is the Morgan 160 in its final form. I am pretty happy with how it came out. I am going to be sad to see it go but it needs a new home. Its come along way from the few pounds of blue paint the previous owner was so proud of.
I think American Scale was producing their stationary vises in the same molds as the swivelers, at least it looks that way in this ad. Both yours and Outlaws may in fact be No. 56's and therefore may not be actually missing their swivel base. While back I picked up this American Scale Red Seal 6" bench vise. Oddly it has no number in the casting. I think it is a model 66 from the vise spreadsheet linked photo. The weight is 124 lbs.
It looked like it had potential but the leadscrew nut mating dovetail in the main casting had damage. I wonder if the leadscrew was tightened too much and the resulting force bending the nut mount broke the cast iron. Has anyone seen this before? Sorry I did not get a photo of that part. Usually the handle is designed to bend before this occurs. But on close examination I did see some porosity in the cast iron at the break so it makes be wonder if it was a poor casting.
I guess you could bolt the leadscrew nut in place from the bottom presuming you had it aligned correctly. Has anyone tried this?
My nice neighbor across the street want it bad, even with the damage pointed out to him. So I sold it to him for what I paid for it - $40. I only picked it up figuring someone here could use the parts.

tool_scrounge, I have seen a dove tail broken in the back side because the slider was opened where it was inside the Static then pressure is applied on the Dynamic and with no support on the square slider the nut takes all the stress. Adding a cap screw underneath is one way to fix it. It is what you are comfortable with on what kind of repair you do. Here is a way I fixed a 6-1/2" Parker with broken out dove-tails. Maybe someone else has another method.

Can't remember 100% but I'm thinking credit for this ad goes to Fierljeppen.
