My oldest daughter would love a purple vise... It would match the 1 lb Japaneses anvil that used to belong to my dad...

All:
Here's a Taskmaster 4" vise that I finished last night. The vise was manufactured in India. However, it seems to have high quality as far as the overall original design and build.
Here are some specifications:
`Jaw size info;
Jaw size = 4".
Opening >5"
Depth = 2-3/4"
`Swivel base with 360° rotation and wedge lock.
Weight = 35#.
In all of the Taskmaster pictures that I've seen on the web, I've never seen one with a dust cap on the back end, like the Wilton Bullets. I was able to find a suitable electrical knock-out cover to solve that problem.
Here are some pictures:
1st. Picture; Before the restoration.
2nd. Picture; The naked vise body. I was surprised that there was no Bondo.
The rest of the pictures are of the finished restoration.
One question: Does anyone have a catalogue page or any other information about this vise? Original manufacture? Date of manufacture? Anything would be appreciated.
Picked this little guy up, has anyone seen one of these? It’s a Parker No. 30, I’ve seen 31 and 32 but never one of these.
It’s a real heavyweight coming in at 9.5 lbs with 2 5/8” jaw width. One of the pictures it is sitting next to a Wilton 4.5” vise just for scale! It’s in perfect condition, even the serrated jaws are still perfect. To be honest I’m not sure it’s ever been mounted to a bench.. I’ve never seen a smaller Parker in my travels so I had to ****** it up!

drives: Is this the picture?
I’ve been busy on two fronts. Preparing for out of town guests that are coming to visit the forge and googling purple Barracudas from back in the day in anticipation of your next release.Smitty has been quiet, too quiet ... sorta makes me think that he's on the road and we are going to be seeing a new gem or two posted on here pretty shortly

Pretty sure that guy is a buddy of Andrew / blacksmith tools guy (whom I believe is also on here). Adam Booth (abom79) has acquired a number of 8" reeds recently.

Nice first post Bill, just love how your stand came out. Looks like a new Yost, how you like it?
That is a clean stand. I like it, good job sir!
On a side note...when I see vises sitting unused tightened up, in makes my OCD alarm go off. Have to loosen them.

Stumbled across this Wilton with the hydraulic PowRscrew on Craigslist in Valparaiso, IN. Too far away for me, but I thought someone closer may want to grab it. Needs a different base, but otherwise looks very clean. I had never heard of one of these before today, and found this thread with some great info.

Good catch! Picking it up in the morning. Thanks!
Edit: After further inspection, it’s not a PowerScrew but I think I’ll still pick it up.
Yeah it’s not the actual power screw model those particular models had a extremely small and skinny handle. I’ve actually seen one of the models in person at a local community college in the automotive area. I’ve actually been watching that vise for a while now just to far for me to drive.

I still don't get it. How is storing something designed to clamp in its clamped state bad for the tool? Is the thinking that its unnecessary wear-and-tear on screw threads for no gain?Ah, don't pay any attention to Dave, he just forgot his meds this morning.
Actually you don't want to leave any tool stored in a strain.---Let them rest, let them breath.---They'll thank you for it.

Did you talk him down from his asking price? I mean, I know it's a Wilton, but it's a broken Wilton...

This is my first post, so please bear with me.
Long time lurker and recent vise addict. Picked up a Yost 33C and built a stand for it. The base is a 24” harrow disc from Agrisupply. Sealed that off on the bottom with some 1/4” plate and added a 5” x 3/16” wall square post and a 3/8” plate on top cut to match the base of the vise. Filled the stand with 120 pounds of steel shot and sand, for a total weight of just over 300 pounds. It’s absolutely rock solid and yet still somewhat easy to move - just tilt it about 30 degrees and roll it around the shop.
Can’t claim credit for the ideas as I borrowed parts of the design from various fellow garagejournal members. Thanks to all!
Crossing my fingers that the pics show up...
