I've got a 750 sq ft attached that is 5 year concrete. I have purchased and plan on putting down ghostshield 4500 densifier and 8510 penetrating sealer. I've got high spots i'd like to get leveled off and get a nice uniform surface before doing this densifying/sealing. I've got a rental edco along with two sets of Double Dyma-Dots lined up. I have the Medium Concrete 30 grit double dots and the 70 grit as well.

My plan is to use the 30 to knock down the high spots and then go over the entire surface with the 70. My question is what does a surface prepped with 70-grit dyma-dots look like/feel like? I called edco direct and talked with them and they seemed to suggest it would be a nice smooth surface, while still having some grip. But the guy really didn't give me a great feeling.

Since the ghostshield will not change the appearance at all I want to make sure the finish after grinding is uniform and smooth, but not slick.

Looking for advice on this. I've yet to find examples of grinds with the various grits. They do make the dots in a 120 as well.

Thanks for any feedback.

I would think if the high spots are noticeable enough that they require knocking down, you could potentially end up exposing the aggregate.

So how bad would that look? I guess that would be problem for sealing as thats just rock at that point.

I doubt the grinder will eat high spots. A planer is designed for this and it will leave an aggregate finish behind. Porous as heck, better suited for an epoxy or Polyurea than a penetrating product.

Thanks for the feedback. Canceled the edco rental. Just going to clean and put down the 4500 / 8510 and move on with life. Probably going to fill the expansion cracks with sikaflex in an attempt to make it look a little more finished.

Sikaflex is a very good product, but it won't absorb in the Ghostshield system. Good idea about passing on the grinding in an attempt to level, many people underestimate the difficulty of grinding, and how 'much' grinding they may want vs. the time it takes.

Thats what I was thinking as well regarding the adherance of the sikaflex. I think my steps will be

1. Clean-let dry
2. Densify
3. SikaFlex the joints
3. spray the 8510

By doing the joints before the 8510 I should be good. Wanting to do the joints is mostly just because I don't want to lose something small someday down there.
