Went to one sale on Friday, got there and was told about the guy that used to live there. He was a Vietnam veteran, passed away earlier this year. He was big into civil war reenactment and had the full union uniform. I was looking through his collection and found this unopened bottle of wild turkey, it has a bottled for export from USA. I later dated it to 1965 and it got me to thinking that the guy must of bought it during his service, brought it home and never drank it. It made me think about life and how I should just enjoy things instead of putting it off.
Anyone recognize that little vise?
Checked CL before going to bed last night and spotted a "tool assortment must buy all" deal. I texted this morning and then headed over to have a look. There were 2 draw knives, didn't even know there was any vises in the deal but there are 2 of those, 2 crappy tack hammers, 2 rusted leather punches (one is P Lowentraut, Newark NJ), 2 braces, a pair of ice tongs, lead plumb bob and a few other "things". I paid his $20 asking price.
The back story is that I've been looking to buy a good old drawknife for a few months. I've come close to pulling the trigger for some on ebay even one here on GJ. The way things were looking it was going to end up costing me $40 or more to get a decent one. Now, I've got two and for only $20. Need a bit of cleaning up and should work great. The 10" drawknife is a Fulton. The 8" drawknife was made by Ohio Tool Co. The lower brace in the pic is a Victor No 966 8". Didn't have a brace but now I do. Just gravy for me. I'm glad I was patient on buying a drawknife. Happy camper here.
Anyone recognize that little vise? How about the Kristee tool? I'd bet someone here has one of these stashed away. ??
So how did it taste?
D42, you are always finding cool stuff! -Show some "guts" pics when you open the torque wrench!
Don't be a tease now. Just open the top.Teaser photo of what's to come! I didn't even know the box itself was Snap On when I bought it, it is loaded with tools and it was VERY heavy!
Here you go.

Nice find. What logo does it have on it? Wartime?Plomb carbon scraper.
It must be holster day.Found two holsters...
To save you time and effort, only if the marking is something other than 2337 PLOMB TOOL CO LOS ANGELES. These vintage 10-steel spring style carbon scrapers are WWII GMTK tools (the fed spec actually calls out Blue-Point CS-1 as a model), I have found a Blue-Point, a Wilde, a Decker, and a few unbranded examples, and I have seen the Plomb version with the above marking (a few colleagues have one, including Don/d42jeep), but I have yet to see an example with a wartime PLVMB marking, so it remains a small open question for GMTK guys - as far as I know - whether they had any made with the wartime marking, or whether the prewar marking was used.I am out of town right now Lugz but will take a pic when I get back.
Here you go.

As mentioned already, this past weekend was the “Portland Swap Meet”. If you like old cars/trucks/tools, this is the place to be.
Here are the “gems” I found this year. Total spend $50:
An Eclipse (Made in England) V-Block with two clamps

All-in-all, Id call it a success!
And then..... Today... I went to the HUGE PAte swap meet at the Texas Motor Speedway. There was soo much stuff I only got about a 1/4 of the way through it. About midday I came across a vendor with some vises and just all around stuff that we all look for. I talked to this guy for a bit and we made a deal on a really neat jewelers vise. Afterwards, I mention Garage journal to him.. "OH yea Im on there.. BlueBolt.... " WHAT!?!?! Out of a half billion people there I stumble upon another GJ'er! I told him I was RagtopTA haha we chatted a while and I went on my way. Super cool dude. Nice to meet ya Brian! My very first GJ'er find in the wild!
Pictured are some Bay and Sale finds. Plomb box, 1/2 sockets even a Plomb LA, DBE, Chisel and punch, and a really nice Paschall hammer head I will re-handle. Blackhawk, SnapOn, and Duro sockets, A snappy pick, various wrenches, Bell Systems cutters, Odd ball wrench with the number 27-T-350 and one of those gearless ratchets to match my little one. Also a Mosssberg speedster.
also pictures is a Firestick set I spied for a bit more then I wanted to pay.

Did Craftsman also use Cad plating during WWII? The 8" adjustable looks very dull compared to any others I have. Is a Circle Y model.
