I actually have two of those pictures hanging in the station (the 2 inside pics).
They have a bit of a story behind them. That was a station in southern Missouri that was one of the winners of a contest Sinclair done in 1956 called "The winning look" It was a contest amongst Sinclair stations to show off their clean modern facilities. One of the prizes for being picked for having "The Winning Look" was a professional photo shoot of the your station. I have mailer that was sent to Sinclair dealers in the spring of 1956 that outlines the contest. Thats how I know about it. These are a few station that had the look.

We had one of our first warmer days of this spring in the middle of last week, so I took advantage of it to paint the hood and decklid on the '53. I had been putting it off because it costs so much to get the shop warm enough to paint in the winter only to have the heat sucked straight outside through the exhaust fan. These pics are straight off the gun. I haven't color sanded them yet.

I moved it off the lift to start getting the front sheetmetal installed. Grabbed a couple pics while it was outside. I can't help but think how many 50's something cars made a turn into that bay over the years.

Picked this up a couple weeks ago, thought it was pretty dang cool.

Been working on a couple sign projects for the building. The sign pole and ring is now media blasted and in primer. Maybe one evening this week they will get some black paint. I met with my concrete guy this week and the work to pour a base to mount the pole to has been scheduled. I'm also going to have the area (currently gravel) between the wall and the brick drive concreted and a section of sidewalk along the eastside of the building filled in. It'll probably be early summer before he gets to it.

This old sign bracket has been laying around for a while so I picked up a double sided 30" porcelain Sinclair Oils sign to hang on it. It will be going above the west arched front door. I also blasted it and gave it a fresh coat of satin black single stage.

I had an old tire laying around from the '51 F1 that I figured could be put to good use. Gave one of my tire stands a fresh coat of paint and some retro Goodyear decals.

Hanging sign looks great.

Where are you going to put the sign pole?

It will be going up by the sidewalk to the north of Dino, right at the end of the wall. That is the main east/west corridor through town. When the station was open it was still Iowa 141. The original sign pole was in basically the same spot just on the east side of the drive right on the corner.

The town of Perry is to be commended in their support of your restored station. Making the sign zoning 'art' and not a commercial sign shows they care about their city. I really like how you are getting the concrete base of the sign professionally installed, and you're not just pouring a little pad and 'calling it good'.

We get a lot of wind just like I'm sure you do in Kansas, I want to make sure it stays in place. The footing will be 5 feet deep, 2 feet diameter with the anchor studs embedded in the concrete.

I was going to wait until work started on this project to bring it up, but with this article in the newspaper today I figured it would be a good time to let the cat out of the bag so to speak. The middle of last summer a local non-profit came to me asking if I would be interested in doing a mural on the back of the station. They are planning to do several murals in the downtown district. I went back and forth with them trying get to a grasp on what their vision was and Jenny basically gave me free rein to pick whatever I wanted the mural to be and they would figure out how to pay for it. Funding was secured last fall and the mural was given a green light, unfortunately the weather did not cooperate so we have been waiting on warmer weather this spring to get started. I'm going to wait until Shawn starts on the mural to unveil the image I choose, but I will say it came from a 1953 Sinclair calendar and its not a Dino advertisement. Stay tuned :) He just finished one inside the local coffee shop covered in this weeks newpaper

Now it will be interesting to see how that works out.

We have these here in Castlemaine.

Wow, great news on the mural!

Along Route 66, and in Pontiac, IL they have The Wall Dogs. They've done a ton of murals along Route 66 and in Pontiac. I love seeing their work, and look forward to following this project as well.

Joe,

Your "Master Craftsman" talents are definitely showing again with the Customline and continued station restoration works.

I still say that you or someone on this forum needs to find a way to get the Sinclair company executives to take notice and pay homage to all of the great work you have done. If for nothing else, but just for the history of it all.

That Fram sales stimulator tool is awesome!

Lastly, cannot wait to see the mural......a road trip to Perry may have to be in order some time this summer......now if I can only find a place nearby to land the chopper.

One step closer to getting the sign pole put up. Wet spring weather played into my favor this week, as soggy ground put many of my concrete contractors scheduled work on hold. Because of that he was able to get my project done 6 or 7 weeks sooner than expected.

When Dino goes missing, it prompts questions about his whereabouts. Whole story in the link below.

Did I see on Instagram some one walking on the new concrete?

You did, fortunately for the ladies well being the concrete had cured enough that she didn't leave a foot print. I just shake my head at how some people are just totally oblivious to the obvious. You just can't fix stupid.

There was a nice story on the news here last night about a local Sinclair station, and how the owner's wife dresses up their Dino for the various holidays and occasions each year: https://www.kare11.com/article/news...mplin/89-72985ae2-5345-4e2c-bb41-2a80f7ee1879

Neat story with the dino, but holy cow look at the station. True survivor
