Niiiice! Haha, bet that ungrateful turtle was pissed to be hoisted by his tail like that! Of course, that's the mood of snapping turtles most of the time anyways, so NBD.

I picked up Craftsman radial arm saw #10 for $40. I'm up to a thousand dollars in Emerson recall money for an output of around half that plus gas money. Plus, I have filled my parts rack with nuts, bolts and washers from disassembling the stands and arms and I have a pile of steel to repurpose for other projects.f800ba46bc14275b329c5c2096713aec.jpg

After 6 recall returns they start reporting it as income. FYI. At least that's what they told me when I asked them how many times one person could do these.

If you can't tell the difference between a box and a snapper, you probably shouldn't get close enough to write on them.
HAHA! 'Zackly!

...bet that ungrateful turtle was pissed to be hoisted by his tail like that!
Oh, he was hissing up a storm. But I would never attempt to pick up a snapping turtle by the carapace. The head, neck, and legs are extremely flexible. (They didn't latinize them as serpentina for nothin'!) I am wearing a scratch where he got me once on the arm as it is.

After 6 recall returns they start reporting it as income.
If that's true, Our Esteemed Host officially has s second career and needs the long form! :lol_hitti

Must be six per year, as they didn't send me a tax form for last year....

Of course, if I were to fold in all of my buying vs all of my selling, I could still claim a net loss and get a tax refund. :-D

BREAK BREAK

Early morning Friday estate sale. The gear puller is unbranded and probably an import but I need a bigger one so picked it up for 6. Starrett machinist square, some =V= sockets, an early =V= 1/4" breaker bar, 3/8 SK rat, Vlchek pliers, Proto LA extension (my ONE find for the Rotomat in past 3 months), unbranded but Made in US flex extension, a 1943 Snap On ratcheting adapter and a couple of buffing wheels. 20 dollars total. I passed on a Wilton bullet vise but plan on going back tomorrow to see if it survives to be knocked down by half.

Today was a good day at the flea market!

That bigass OD green grease pumper with the stenciling on the side on a skid and casters is from WWII! Technical nomenclature is "GUN, pump, bucket, lubricating, medium pressure, with flexible hose, 25 pound capacity”. Wartime FSN is 41-G-1425. I will either do a separate thread for that after I clean it up a little or see if someone already has a thread for a vintage civilian service station version and just tack onto that. This is a rare score that I am super excited about. I know of only three or four of these in the hands of WWII MV enthusiasts. Highly desirable item to set up near a group of vintage MV's for a WWII Living History Display at a rally or show.

The black case with the heavy OD green canvas duck handle is a vintage Fiberbilt. I am a sucker for these. Last owner was an electrician.

The 4-way lug wrench is an S-K Tools, Defiance O.

The thin drain plug/hub cap wrench is an Indestro. Looks 50's.

The "perfect handle" screwdriver is a 15" Tobrin. WWII.

The ratchet is a MFD Pebble Period Plomb 5249.

Unknown tommy bar.

The strange "S" wrench is a Billings 1409 textile wrench.

The little DOE is unmarked (looks Mossberg to me) marked "809982" with 25/64 x 31/64 openings. 1920's for sure.

Pair of Duro ignition wrenches. WWII.

A Barcaloy 11/16" combo wrench just in case the Barcalo Buddha (or was it Bard?) needs one.

It was axe and hatchet day today! The TrueTemper Kelly Perfect with the Stiletto stamp on the back seemed high priced to me at $30 but after checking Ebay sold prices and texting my axe collector buddy I picked it up for him. 1st day of estate sale so no bargaining.

Then I stopped at an antique store and picked up this little unusual shaped broadaxe only marked HAND MADE DROP FORGED. My buddy wanted that one too so with tax it was $13.13.

There was a barn/estate sale nearby so on Thursday I swung out there to see what I could pick up.

Some Vlchek combo's, Starrett parts, '50s Snap-on extension, Stanley Defiance chisel, Craftsman ratchet, a pair of dividers and a Cornwell flare combo. I also got some rust

Its a mix of Plomb, Snap-on and long C Craftsman (you can see the BE ratchet and there is a breaker bar there too) but the real reason was this

That is a '30s Snap-on socket spinner box. For the price I paid, $20 for everything, I feel I should try to save what I can.

I believe that is a lincoln manufacture compressor/pump. I think i got a OD 1 too along with a O.D. alemite pump. I'll make mission to the back deep back corners of the barn.

Mike,
It's possible. But, I have only ever seen three of these before, all of them have been marked with "ORD" (for US Ordnance Dept) on the neck of the pump, and S-W Alemite on the bucket. Having said that, Lincoln was also an Ord Dept supplier, so it's possible. I will know who guessed right as soon as I clean it up. :)

Lugz, congrats on the grease pumper, that's SO rare! Look forward to your thread. Were your Duro ignition wrenches E or G coded?

The weekend is already starting well for pickers!

Garage Sale this morning had two old-school Craftsman toolboxes in the drive. Both were locked, one had no key the other had the key broken off in the lock. The bottom bin door was missing on one so I rooted around in there and popped open the locking arm from the bottom. The other box I used a screwdriver to pop the bottom bin door open, no damage. This one had two locking arms, managed to free all the drawers there! My reward: full set of old-school Craftsman double box offset wrenches, 1/2dr RHFT Ratchet and a shorty dbl-box set. Two Snap-on extensions, some Torx, a 3/4--1/2 adapter, timing light, DIS Probe, Cornwell dead blow ball peen hammer, couple of weird Bonney 3/8dr adapters. Nice Starrett 2-3" Mic, some Mitutoyo Gages, Gabriel shocks pocket knife and a really long Craftsman screwdriver. The Fluke 88 needed a good cleaning and a new battery.... now almost like new!

Yep, Vlchek unmarked gull wing pliers except for the V in the shield. They are actually fairly common.
We hit two sales in Marin County this morning, one in Mill Valley and the later one in San Anselmo. San Anselmo is so hoity toity that you can’t park on a public street, even in front of your own house. We carefully parked blocking one of those portable signs that tell you how fast you’re going and fortunately we didn’t get towed away. Here are the finds in order. The first sale had a PowrKraft sander and a Dunlap chisel set but my favorite was the slightly used Barcalo 8” adjustable wrench.
The second sale had a PowrKraft hacksaw, an early patent S-K 3/8” drive rusty ratchet and some early Hinsdale sockets along with quite a bit of Craftsman.

I also got about 50' of heavy log chain, and a coal pail for my wife to use as a planter.

My favorite find of the day was the True Temper Kelly Perfect Stiletto double bit axe.

So I did a bit of research.

Stiletto was the name for tools and cutlery sold by Pacific Hardware and Steel Company, in 1918 they merged with Baker and Hamilton Company to become Baker, Hamilton and Pacific Company.

They put out a huge catalog that got as big as 5000 pages. Their catalog was probably bigger than Sears Roebuck at times.
Here is a timeline I found for Baker and Hamilton.

849 – Baker and Hamilton began selling tools to gold miners in a tent store near Sacramento, California
1851 – Baker and Hamilton opened their first permanent location in “Old Town” Sacramento.
1887 – Baker and Hamilton expanded their Sacramento store and warehouse to a full city block
1893 – Baker and Hamilton Company took over the farm implement business from Warren & Sons in Sacramento
1906 – Baker and Hamilton’s brand new building was completely destroyed in the Big San Francisco Earthquake
1974 – Baker and Hamilton closed their doors permanently and all inventory was sold to California Hardware
1997 – Renegade Hammer Co. owner Mark Martinez acquires the Stiletto Trademark and production rights
1998 – Martinez invents worlds first solid Titanium framing hammer
1999 – First “Stiletto” branded Titanium hammer is manufactured and sold out of Atwater, Ca.
2007 – Stiletto is purchased by Milwaukee Electric Tools in Brookfield, WI

I found early Pacific catalogs with Stiletto on the cover but early Baker and Hamilton catalogs didn't have them until the merger.

wrenchguy: As I suspected, mine is a WWII era US Ordnance Dept Alemite. Not a Lincoln. See a thread I just started, linked here. I have never seen a WWII Lincoln model. If you have one marked US ORD, I would love to see it.

Yup. Prices were good in my book. All the loose items i snagged were a buck a piece. The Wilton is a behemoth and in perfect working order. I'm not a vise guy but they had 110 on it. I see Wilton bullets listed for big bucks but don't know if they sell for the prices I see. They had two Dayton bench grinders with US Government marking on the data plates. 60 for the one missing one safety shield, 65 for one complete. I'd have bought one of those for the cool factor but I've got bench grinders stacking up in my shop. I might go back tomorrow at noon to see if there's any survivors. When I was there I was the only one showing any interest in the vise or grinders. Everyone else was throwing elbows over a stack of rakes and shovels.

Thanks for the info about Vlchek. I’m in Ohio so that makes sense. I’m amazed at how much stuff Cleveland used to make.

No problem. I'm a little east of you in Erie and I find quite a bit of Vlchek tools during my travels.

So I was late getting to a few sales today but I did manage to get this older Craftsman 8inch table saw model 113.22161 and a 7" inch Dayton grinder model 4Z908B for $20. Just finished cleaning the grinder up a little bit ago. Both work great. 54337b11d336ee7bdce5543c1989efdf.jpgaf033af51fa51332335d1f83d99cc723.jpg22fe81ac3582c6ba5c971d3dfdf83440.jpg70a6321f48ce588bf62a81a62241c772.jpgb2c7c9ab5a87e02cc53ec59e6d0d742a.jpg

Thursday I went to the same sale that bmw did, and I got my share of rusty stuff. I am of the opinion that the seller's idea of tool storage is to put them in a servicable bucket and leave them outside in the rain. Almost all the stuff was badly rusted. I did find some things that were worth hauling off.

Today I drove 20 miles to a sale that advertised metalworking tooling. When I asked where the stuff was, the lady told me that her helper couldn't come that morning, so she wouldn't be selling that until tomorrow.

On the way home, I stopped at a sale at the local retirement center, at a group of duplexes for the retirees. I came up with the following for $4.00.

Mac #2 Phillips screwdriver
Keen Kutter Plumb Bob
3/4 Superrench combo
Barcalo:
13/16x7/8 DBE
15/16 Combo
19/32x11/16 DOE
Geometric DOE 19/32x11/16 unmarked

I got to an estate sale late yesterday and there was not much left. I always look up in the rafters and glad I did. These 2 were hanging horizontally and blended in. I got them both for $15, I usually pass on these but had to buy something.
