I had a pretty good morning at the flea market. Came away with a box of skateboard bearings, snap-on vacuum grip pliers, a pile of nice 1/4” drive sockets, some plomb wrenches and a sockets, a plomb speeder, and a few plomb screwdrivers. This was definitely the most plomb I’ve found in a while.

CFD, what size are those Skateboard bearings? might be goo replacements for Pressteel drawer rollers?

Gidge, Nice find on the lantern! How is the vent for Chips? Looks pretty clean and un-molested from the one pic. What month of 1963? (Probably late as the early were generally burgundy red and after that came cherry red.)

Outlaw : Vent looks clean and the lantern is in almost pristine condition. The lantern is currently buried in my shop, I will get back to you on the month. I defer to your expertise (I've seen you post many lanterns), and believe it probably is from the latter part of 1963.

I picked up this Schoolhouse -Style Clock yesterday -- Can anyone advise me how to hook it up to see if it actually works ? I don't know what the red wire is for and assume it may possibly be for a timer for the school bell ?

Otherwise: Black is Positive, White is Negative, and Green is Ground -- or am I mistaken and the Red is the "hot" wire ?

Thanks in advance for your help !

I'm guessing that clock originally had two motors. That was common for clocks in a school or a factory. One for std. time keeping and another for fast forward setting from a remote master clock. The movement has probably been replaced with that Hanson motor.

Just wire 120 VAC to the two leads going to the motor and green should be ground. The other wire is probably no longer needed.

Those unused clips on the back suggest it originally had a different movement. Does it even have a time setting knob?

Wifey get's credit for this find. Ad said Stihl chainsaw among other items but we arrived well after the start time and the only chainsaw was a Worx electric.
I was about ready to leave but wifey asked the owner about his ad and he said he'd been to busy to bring out the Stihl.

Here she is. A creampuff MS361 Pro saw with <2 hrs running time. Complete with carrying case, chain filing kit, manual, tools, extra chain, etc. Price was $150. Moral of the story is don't assume anything of interest is already gone.

Gidge,
How’s this?
I don’t know if the hands will turn, though. On these two, some glitch caused the clutch solenoid to jam some small brass gears out of alignment, and the clocks stopped. Might be a common fail.

Edit: took the movement apart this morning. Next-to-last picture is the damaged gear, which I believe was forced against the sprockets of another gear to produce the ground surface visible at the edge. The last picture is the flip-side, smooth and undamaged. The short steel axel was press-fitted into the brass housing, and I think the diameter of this gear is just too wide to resist deflection under some adverse condition, leading to the jamming and grinding.
I associate the timing of a number of these clocks failing in my workplace with a power outage, possibly a brown-out or voltage spike.

It's a slave clock. Other wires are for control from the master clock in the original building. Don't connect power until you've done some research so you don't blow the motor.

Nice finds Don. Tahoe has served you well.

Looking for the following Plomb Pebbles Wrenches 3061, 3070,

Thanks, Roy. We went back this morning to see what I missed and found a few more tools worth having. The first picture is today’s finds followed by some mostly metric Craftsman. A little Snap-on box, a 1943 18” Ridgid, a 3/8” drive PowrKraft ratchet with a little different selector, some more S-K tools and a Proto ratchet.
-Don

Hi Folks,
I've been out of the loop the last two weeks as my father died unexpectedly. Naturally things have needed arranging and my mother taken care of.
I've been reading this thread (and others on GJ) of an evening/morning when laying awake and you've all pulled in some nice finds, interesting finds and more than a few YOU **** finds, that have been a needed distraction at times.

The funeral was on Friday and for the first time in the blurred last two weeks I found myself back home and on my own for an entire morning. Went for a walk and a coffee at a charity shop (great place that helps train/give work experience to young adults with disabilities) and sat on the shelf from me was this YORK wooden plane so I smiled and bought it for £2.50.

I only know YORK tools for their 'Wilton-esque' vices!

Anyway I'll keep dipping in and out over the coming weeks.

I hit five stops yesterday, and surprisingly all but one had good stuff! Blew through this weeks money but well worth it.

Proto LA, P&C, Vlchek wrenches, Snap-on, P&C, and Plomb sockets, Plomb water pump pliers (marked JP Danielson on the flip side) small Jorgensen clamps, SK extension with P&C flat head bit and a wooden sliding lid box.

Montgomery Wards ignition set (.25 and half complete) and a full set of lettering stamps. And what are they sitting on?

With eight Craftsman brace bits!
Got this for twelve bucks

Pretty sure its a Thorsen box from the scrap of the label left, and it had a couple of their sockets, along with Proto Pro and others. And picked this quarter sawn mirror frame to go in my bathroom, wich is perfect as my house was built in 1913.

All together I think I spent about $50, and I really need to slow down a bit on the spending.

Three stops today while out getting fascia boards for the new deck. Yielded sockets from MAC,Proto, and SK , SK 1/4 Ratchet ,misc pliers, more silverplate flatware,3lb-6oz (which may just become our daily silverware) and a silver plate I'm not sure its sterling or plate,it's heavy at 1lb-1oz but the markings on the back are pictured below and I haven't found a decoder ring. I'd like to know more before walking into a place that buys silver ,being unarmed at their mercy. Thanks in advance.

Those appear to be hallmarks. There's a possibility that it's English silver and it's solid. Try googling "silver hallmarks" for information. It could be either Sterling or Coin silver.

Thanks Pete, I'm 99% certain it is British,by the LONDON tag, I will try and research some English hallmarks. Thanks for the info.

I took some magnified photos. I read it as BD&Co. London K&M

If you find out what each one means, you'll be able to know when and where it was made and who made it. Silver is sold by the Troy ounce.

I only went to one estate sale, and oddly enough Saturday was half price day. What lured me in was a photo of a big bandsaw - I thought. It turned out to be only a 12", but it's a Walker Turner and built like a tank- weighs about 70 lbs! It was mounted with a motor on a base - basically a heavy-duty sawhorse. The wiring was shot, but I was able to fire it up and watch it run. Smoooth! I dismounted it and left the base behind. Right next to it was the Craftsman belt sander, a 6" with 8" disc and a 1/2 hp Craftsman motor. It was also set up on a wooden base, but this one was nicely done with multiple shelves to hold belts, etc. Nowhere to put it; I've already got a spot for it on a table next to my router table, so I left it behind too. I'd have to redo the mount anyway-the motor was mounted so that the sander couldn't be used horizontally.
That made a good shopping day, but then I spotted an old socket with diagonal crosshatching- old S-K? No, old Craftsman, long C, and a nearly complete set of 1/2" drive standard and deep, with breaker bar, speeder, L-drive and a couple of extensions - and a handful of 3/8 drive. I picked these from 3 different boxes and made a nice pile. Now, of course I'm thinking I should have spent more time and searched deeper - maybe I'd have found those missing sockets.:(
The breaker bar had a piece of thinwall jammed onto the handle- of course I had to see what was under it.
Total tab was $54.

Have a hard time keeping up with this thread, and the vise thread, moves crazy fast. Anyway, had a good day at the flea market today. Found a new Atlas 6" lathe, still bolted to the shipping crate, and a cool little grinding/buffing arbor. Suspect it's meant for a jeweler, has a small collet chuck as well on the end of the arbor. Found a nice Parker 973-1/2 vise, Delta 1/2 HP motor, a lathe faceplate, and a strange little torch. Seller said it was a miners torch, made to clip to a helmet. Anybody know anything about it? 6" 1/4 drive extension for scale. Oh yeah, ever see a qt. can of Simichrome Polish?

454, better pics needed, but the "miners torch" appears to be a small alcohol torch, but for soldering, not on a helmet for light... I think its missing the orifice tip on the bent tube.

The way this should work is both chambers get alcohol (denatured)

One "preheats" the burner head and vaporizes the alcohol and that creates pressure. the vapor comes out of the orifice, and the preheat flame ignites the vapor and once its all warmed up, you have a mini blow torch.

A key part is the orifice though.

I've got several antique torches and one just like that one, 454. I'll post photos tomorrow. Outlaw is correct. Very early radio repair type soldering. But it's complete. Nothing is missing. There is a pinhole in the nozzle over the wick. The heat from the burning wick pulls the vapor out of the canister through the pinhole, creating a tight flame ignited by the wick.

Outlaw, you **** for the $5 SiggTourist set!

Thanks GPW! They don't show up often unless on Eprey for $$$.

I'm pleased to have two of the SEVA123 stove holders and wind screens for the pair I'm setting up in the new camp box! One set of pots between them is sufficient. That and a Steamer and I'm pretty well set for pots! I already have a small round griddle for it.

I am pretty sure your antique alcohol torch is a Lenk. I found one with most of the label intact and reported it right here in the 2016 version of the Garage Sale thread. With Outlaw's help and a little research on Lenk, I figured out how it works. Link here for photos.
