I'm down on Cape Cod for my daughter's graduation from Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
Congrats, BB!

Believe it or not I picked my own garage today....
HAHA! Strangest and funniest thing I've read all week!

I totally get the "picking your own garage" deal! Happened to me when I got serious about Coleman lanterns! I'd been picking up nice or interesting examples for decades, and just hanging or storing them here and there. when I got serious and onto a collectors forum, I kept posting "here's another I found in my garage..." Drove them a bit nuts for a time, as some were extremely hard to find or in particularly good shape, (one was NOS - and I know I have a few more interesting ones hiding in there...)

Not sure I'd be so surprised with tools.

Capt S
- some really nice finds in their!

I found this parts cabinet at the flea market this morning. It was in a huge lot of tools and junk from a garage. I had already made a circuit around the entire flea market, so when I saw several guys already pawing through some of the toolboxes, I didn't have much hope. I was standing there surveilling the whole lot, biding my time on one of the boxes when I spotted this. I almost missed it, because it was tucked in between some other stuff with something on top of it. Initially, I was just interested in the cabinet. Ironically, when I pulled a drawer out I was annoyed that it had a hinged lid on it, since I had to pull it all the way out to see what was inside. When I flipped the lid open and saw the contents and the packing label on the lid, I knew immediately what it was. I checked the top drawer, and the third, and so on, and tried to maintain my composure for the negotiation. When the seller asked if I wanted "the stuff inside" or just the cabinet, I knew he didn't know what it was, and I was going to get a good deal.

Gotta take more photos. Probably start a thread for it so It's well-documented for others.

Believe it or not I picked my own garage today. The old garage, that is. Enter at your own risk style, it’s literally crumbling and collapsing. No working doors. I don’t expect it to last another winter.

I went in for one thing and one thing only, which I found after a bit of a search. Then it turned into a rescue mission to save and relocate as many hand tools as I could. I know it sounds strange, but it’s either that or let them go. Ended up gathering about 8 cardboard boxes full of sockets, ratchets, wrenches, socket sets, etc.. Still trying to determine what to do with other stuff.

Anyway, almost all of this has never seen GJ, as it was picked up 10-15 years ago.

Did you guys know I had Craftsman BT ratchet hiding in there all this time, because I sure as heck didn’t know. :dunno: Also found four 4” adjustables I had no clue were in there.

Wait till you guys see a Bonney piece that was forgotten in there too. Been so long I didn’t remember it existed! Having some pic trouble but here are a few anyway.

that's like a years worth of picking just by cleaning.LOL . Any chance you could shore up the garage with some down and dirty bracing and then safely remove all the contents? I'd offer to help..I'm only 10 hours and international travel away

Finally made it to a flohmarkt again and went to one of the bigger ones in the area. Lots of tools but mostly junk but it was only my second one of the year. One stand from a Czech seller had boxes and boxes of tools. I picked through and grabbed these:

Belzer long 19 mm combo wrench with a small rust spot, Proto Professional 11mm combo wrench which is unusual. I usually only see SK, Craftsman and occasionally Snap On probably from military bases. Stahlwille 8 mm hex socket and some Wiha and Stanley screwdrivers, a no name saw and miscellaneous items.

I passed on some Gedore and Heyco DOE wrenches since I have no use for them. I hope to get to the one next week but it's normally hit and miss.

:lol_hitti thanks. There isn’t much hope. Not without the big bucks anyway. The roof is collapsing. The upper floor rotting and crumbling. Some large items ready to fall through. The brick has been shot for decades. The doors and springs went a few years back.. Concrete was always decent but has major cracks. It’s coming down but I just don’t know when!

The time to do something was 15 -20 years ago. What happened was Grandpa died young, and no one was responsible for his place after that. It should have been me to get it done but the time came and went.

Thank you! I was more than pleased to find one in the wild!

"Nice baldie" .... Had to go back through all the pix to find wtf you're talking about. Wow! Never saw one before, in the wild or in captivity.

Just what I needed, something else to BOLO for. :bounce:

Slow day made even slower by having to take my daughter somewhere by 8.. So I started out of town...

"Block" sale (3 houses) - $2 ceramic gravity water Filter; $3 cloth napkins (camp gear);

attachment.php

Several stops, but nothing more out of town...

Back in town with a late start - stop #1 $2 army pouch, new deck of cards, and a 220J Coleman w/Amber globe (I would not have bought it, except for the globe...); Last Stop $2 Vac gauge, and Plvmb Stubby

attachment.php

attachment.php

At a TOO (no pic - Forgot...) - $3 18X24 alum restaurant tray,

And this I got a week or two ago off Eprey a lantern with my birth year and month on it, in VG shape, the Globe and ball nut on the top vent were from the Coleman group. Paid more that I'd have liked but in this condition worth it, and its not all "period correct" (down to the correct globe markings) - We had a "solstice" all night burn last night and this thing lasted from dark to well after dawn! Well over 10 hours burn time on a single tank of fuel! (Not enough for a winter solstice... That is a job for one of my "Franken Lanterns"

An interesting mix today. L to R:

Carboloy marked ammo can, painted bright orange

Carborundum Niagara Falls, NY no. 190 combination bench sharpening stone in box (little use)

Heyco combination pliers 17cm long, only mark is Heyco forged into each grip

4 more Blackhawk Armstrong "Hexite" DOE wrenches to go with the one I found a couple weeks ago. I guess I'm now collecting these

Best for last...a pair of Starrett "Little Giant" jack screw sets no. S190...been after a set for a while but even the bare jacks fetch $$, so I got lucky when I found this matched pair. I did pay though... $40...everything else was $10...

Not many tool vendors at the Tahoe flea this morning but I brought home a few pieces. I liked the Bonney adjustable and the Heller Masterench. A few S-K items and some Craftsman sockets and that was about it.

This weekend was the Branch 15 show and swap, small engine and tractor folk, with some interesting antiques thrown in. Ran into Mr. X and Oregon Rock Crusher at various times, as I was there Thursday PM and Sat AM.
Thursdays finds:

'90s Wooden Boat magazines and a reprint OTC catalog

Starrett hook ruler and adjustable parallels, Vintage storm window hardware.

Starrett transit box (no transit) And what was in that Craftsman Box, I hear you ask?

All pieces marked Craftsman except one tap. Got that for $25
Saturdays finds:

US six inch scale, Snap-on Speeder from '63, Snap-on screwdriver tip, Proto LA screw extractor, P&C ratchet, and 5/16 combo, unmarked socket tray, Williams extension, die stock and a Madsen rivet gun.

B&S book and a mostly complete SK 1/4 socket set. I have almost everything that was missing except the 6mm socket; the set was $10. All together I spent about $40 each day what with entry fees. It is one of the better swap meets and I look forward to it every year.

I don't envy you, I for see this in the future myself and makes me want to make sure that I won't leave the same problem.

If you stumble across any license plates in there, let me know!

D42, what lengths are the Heller and the Bonney?

I'd love to fine a Heller type in 4"... Smallest they made was 6"

They are both 6”. I’ll add some pictures below.
Since I didn’t find much at the flea, we hit a few local garage sales. I don’t usually talk about price but we got two Snap-on screwdrivers and a pair of CeeTee (Crescent) pliers for $1.00. The rt angle Makita was $5.00 but included a working battery.

That's a handy size/type of battery drill! I'd have bought that one, and I rarely buy battery tools any more...

I keep thinking I'd like to make up a display board with a selection of odd wrenches like that type of adjustable. I certainly have enough of them. Not sure where I'd hang it...

How where the prices like? I've been looking for a #4 Stanley hand plane.

There were many planes there, but I wasn’t looking at them. The prices on merchandise varied from “single items at a flea market” to “half off from eBay.” I bought a couple small items for $.50ea, pliers at $2.50, $6.50. There was a unbranded, complete, heavy-weight clamp-on, ball-and-socket saw sharpening vise for $24. I think I should have bought that. I’ve occasionally seen Disston ones, which I would prefer, for twice that price.

Here’s the website: http://www.jonesport-wood.com/

Well guys I'd arranged to take my mum around a large antique show in Harrogate, UK.
I wasn't expecting to find much myself as Harrogate is to Leeds what the Hamptons are to New York!!! [emoji15]

Anyway found a few things for a total spend of £68

>4th English edition Dante's Inferno published in 1913, £9
> couple of pictures, £35
> Oval tin embossed with fox hunting scenes, £4
> Self propelling pencil with measurements on the edge (needs a lead), £5
> and a tool.... Stanley No. 88 Screwdriver with multiple bits, Made in UK, £5....A bit of research highlights that these were part of a standard toolkit for 1965> Rolls Royce Silver Shadows.
Certainly not seen it before in my usual haunts.

(cup of tea...... Well.... I am English!! [emoji28])

Most importantly my mum and I had fun! [emoji4]

TF - Somewhere between 1924 and mid 40's at a guess based on the logos used might be earlier than the mid 40's...

4 digit numbers, I believe AA says something about when those came out.

TF - I have a tool board for the B-series (3/8 drive) tools that has the exact same logos. I dated it to the Mid- to late 1940's, based on the tools listed.

Yours seems to be in very good shape! Much better than mine.

The 1100- series listed are the combination wrenches, and the 1300- series are flare nut wrenches.

I paid $40.00 for mine.

Drove back from the Cape solo today so I stopped in on the second day of a "HUGE ESTATE SALE!!! TOOLS!"

Yeah, right. Maybe yesterday, but today was mostly Harley seat cushions and vintage cameras. I oogled a Heritage-era C-man rolling tool cart, but didn't ask about a price because 1) I was driving the Mustang and 2) I'm currently oversupplied in cabinets and carts. I left with nothing.

Hey, that happens--not every stop will be a honey hole.

Today I went to an out of the way flea I'd never been to before, due to other plans being cancelled. Note to self: next time go before noon. Most of the vendors were packing stuff away.

Thought I was leaving empty handed, til I was sifting thru a pile-o-hammers. This wasn't all the way at the bottom, but close. 77 date code, modern replacement handle is a tad loose.

Both Capt. Spaulding and I found Plumb hammers this weekend with "U.S" stamped on them. Does this mean they were military issue?

I believe so but I don’t have any documented evidence. I have found US marked ones for my GMTK.

My regular seller was scheduled to be at the Tahoe flea this morning and he had several tools set aside for me. There were a couple more vendors with tools as well. Several Craftsman tools including a long C bevel. A couple of Plomb items. What I think is a 4oz Vlchek ball peen, a Snap-on screwdriver and my favorite item of the day, a wood handle New Britain spinner.

A couple items from the Back to the 50s car show and swap meet at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds today.

I was inspired by Adam Booth / Abom79 on YouTube, and picked up an Eagle model 66 oiler. :)

This is the biggest pair of Diamond Calk slip joint pliers I've ever seen, they're 10" long. This particular pair is marked 'Motor Spec'; I already have a couple with that marking but don't know for sure what the deal was - I suppose it was done to market them to the auto repair trade.

Had some cool finds this week. On Wednesday I went to a sale for a widow who needed to empty a huge storage unit. Her husband was a machinist/mechanic. I was the only one there and had plenty of time to dig. I built a pile and asked her what she was looking for. She turned to her son for advice and he asked her "do you want to give him a good price or a great price?" She answered "great price" and he said $50. Done deal!

I got a MAC 6 piece punch set that looks like it's never been used,
A partial MAC punch set in tray, plus four large punches and a scribe tool. (if anyone wants the red tray, you can have it for the price of shipping. I'll be throwing it away otherwise)
Three Craftsman socket end wrenches,
MAC S62 brake spoon
MAC hard handle flat head screwdriver
MAC 1/4" 4" extension
Craftsman SAE ignition wrench set
2 MAC spark plug sockets
MAC SAE hex socket set
MAC Metric allen wrench set
3 MAC snap ring pliers
MAC cutters

Partial Cornwell hollow torx bit set
4 MAC flare nut wrenches
Proto 712 12" adjustable wrench
MAC AJ18 18" adjustable wrench
2 MAC SAE Combination wrenches
Snap-on air hammer bit
MAC adjustable hose clamp pliers

Four various Snap-on Phillips sockets
Channellock 440s

That was my big tool find for the week. At another sale I found a model of a rotary engine for $4. It's never been assembled and it looks like all the pieces are in the box!

The last (and largest) find was at a storage locker sale. They advertised "mountains of hand tools" and that turned out to be false, but my brother and I found this beautiful hand painted sign. It's about 8'x2'. We got this, plus a Pierce Arrow wheel socket that I found for $10 total.

My brother is finishing up building a "mini" garage/shed, and this fits perfectly behind the two tire racks he's building.

This really was the perfect find for his garage. This will go up once the tire rack and walls are painted.
