Helped my son replace the crank position sensor in his AWD E90 BMW.

For those of you who know what that entails, well, you'll know why I went past the Macallan 12 in favor of a bit of the Macallan 21 this evening!

Did you go from top or bottom?

That file organizer is one of those "why didn't I think of that" ideas - great work! Much better than in the bags they come in or worse, all sliding against each other.

9 year old daughter helped finish the brakes on the wife's fiat. Discovered in the process that the fiat turbo has the same brakes as the Abarth, but all the parts places list the pads for the lower end models. Finally figured that out with the help of the internet and the guy at auto zone.

After we finished with that, I installed new rims and tires on the tractor.

Ending the day trying out a house warming gift from a friend. a17634de88a50cc1112620c5b2d2f326.jpg2110e41d5763460c9ab51284701ee8ae.jpg

Quite a bit... after a visit from an unsavory sort of character earlier in the week, I opted to hurry up and install some blinds and window film. The blinds were easy but the window film ended up in the trash. However, I also finally got around to installing a sink and vanity in the garage bathroom, as well as some finishing items. A shelf, a new light, and some appropriate Land Rover posters and reading material should finish it off by week's end.

Get a Cam system! It is Prime Day and the BLINK system is on sale. There are other systems as well like Ring. I preach this all the time as someone that has had $$$$ in tools stolen. My cam system has stopped at least two repeat occurrences and I had video of an attempt on my neighbors place that ID's the vehicle plates and helped catch the attempted thieves. Super simple and easy nowadays with no power or data cable to run.

I try to help with the machines at the little league my kids used to play at, its right down the street from me. Today I worked on an older golf cart they bought (not sure why, but that's another story). I had to tow it home with a rope behind my truck lol.

No start. the fuel feed tube fell off, fixed that, got fuel. then fuel was pouring out of the carb, took that apart & cleaned it. Maybe that is why the air box is not hooked up (which is good, for some reason it has water in it). It ran, but lots if oil smoke, oil coming out of tail pipe. Thought i heard some knocking. Checked oil, its milk and way high, so i guess the carb was a problem for a while. Need to get oil & filters and go from there. Spark plug is clean so I hope the overfilled crankcase caused issues and there is lots of residue in the exhaust to burn off. A little googling shows its not uncommon.

last week it was a new wheel on their tractor. that was a pain. spindle pin measured out to like .749, the new wheel was for 3/4" hubs. but when i got it home i could not get it on. the bushings measured out to .744. So i had to ream out the bushings. Nothing is easy!

Took the wheels off my 2006 MX5 roadster and cleaned the wheel wells. Also cleaned the wheels and applied Turtle Wax seal and shine before I put them back on.

I have my everyday garage that the wife parks in and has all my lawn junk in it.

That being said, what I did for my "future" garage is hire a surveyor to come out and update my plot plan so that I can get the approval from the town to build my new garage/shop!

I think finally resolved the slipping rubber driven ring on my Snapper mower. After replacing everything that would normally cause that (worn out rubber driven ring, poly vee belt, drive tension spring), I decided to take a closer look at the drive disk. I've only replaced four or five drive disks after working on probably hundreds of Snappers with pretty much the same design, so I looked at mine really closely and decided it was just worn too smooth over the years. 5 minutes with some 80 grit on my DA and I'm happy to say, now the dang thing will spin the wheels on dry pavement if you hold the mower back. That's how they're supposed to work. Time will tell if my "repair" is going to only be temporary, but at least if it gets worse I now know what I need to replace next.

Today was organization day. I've been lazy recently, and it was time. Also cleaned up a bunch of cat hair! :( One of my wife's cats got killed by a coyote recently, so now the other two "have" to live in the garage at night. Dang those nasty things shed a TON!

I got 2 large dogs living in my garage, a husky and a Shepherd mix, I can probably make a few cats out of the fur when they are blowing their coat. Insanity, my next dog will be a shorthaired breed or a poodle!!!

Reverse engineered all the wiring on this old lawn tractor. Starter gear is shot and the crank snout turns is the opposite way the motor turns so I cannot use a bolt there. Designed and 3D printed a crank adapter to use a 36mm socket knowing full well the keyway would shear but I was hoping lol. It sheared, I don't have a running tractor.. :( This thing is about 35 years old so getting a starter isn't going to be easy.

Oil pan gasket replacement with a cork gasket. Also wanted to inspect for anything in the pan and if there was varnish/sludge in the engine.

Nothing yet. Proabably nothing all day. It's already 85° F with 72% RH, no wind. The heat index is 90° F. It's ugly. Might start clearing out part of the boiler room. My contractor tells me he now needs access to the boiler room wall. I wish he told me that before I ordered the POD. I would have gotten the next larger unit.

My son is living the "Van Life" that's one small step removed from homelessness, one giant leap towards being trendy.

They use my garage as their "home base". That means one German Shepard and one long hair cat. You could knit a sweater from the shed fur.

Replaced some worn fork stems on my wheelchair.

The replacement stems were not threaded on both ends so I had to cut some new threads.

So much nicer, without the front casters fluttering at speed.

Moved out the old wrinkle red 44" Series 1 set, cleaned up the space and picked this up since it arrived early in time for my birthday. I'll go through and do the drawer mods and lubing before loading it up. Still waiting on the top.

Fired up a diminutive KampKook Camp stove that is about 95 years old:

The (external) pump needed some attention, so I got some 1/8 hose for the pump yesterday and the leather soaked in Neetsfoot, and that came back! I got some 7/32 tonight that should fit better.

The tank was soaked in Evaporust, and rinsed out with water (many many times - A couple of square inches of news print bits came out... ) then alcohol, then dried and filled with fuel. used a pin to knock the check valve ball in the cap loose and rinsed that with WD-40. (Out of carb cleaner)

I'd replaced the Cap O ring last night. With pressure the tank was squirting fuel so I got the stove and matches, primed the first burner with fuel from the tank (just aimed the generator jet in there...) mounted the tank and it fired right up!

I over-opened the valve so you could see the flames better, but it roars along pretty good! I'm a Happy Camper (pun intended)

Me and a buddy used to build those buggies when we were in high school. We would spend around $1200-$2000 on parts and after riding a week around in it someone would offer us $6000-$8000 for it. Needless to say we've walked home several times after those offers.

So for quite a while this wall was a mess, lots of "stuff" just existing under the (concerningly creaky) stairs and not well organized. This weekend past, I changed that.

I'm planning to add a top shelf, but I'm relatively satisfied with the bottom and middle.

The base level is 2x10s standing up, 3' long and ~18" apart, to allow my floor jacks to be stored, as well as to fit the legs of the engine crane for moving some of the larger stuff around. I built the frame with a 2x3 in the rear to locate it, secured with tapcons to our block wall. Then attached 3/4" plywood to it to provide a plenty stable surface, and connected a 2x4 upgright to the stairs and the 2x10s... needless to say, they're no longer creaky.

Then I built the framing for the middle shelf, it's 2x3s all around with more of the 3/4" plywood. It's spaced so that I can fit my smaller toolbox underneath, but provides enough depth that if I want an additional work surface, I've got the option. The far left leg is angled so that larger assemblies of heavy items have clearance to sit on the base shelf (there is a workbench off to the side not pictured. More tapcons, and it's not going anywhere -- it's pretty damn sturdy, considering that I don't need this one to hold a bunch of weight.

Next step is to have the electrician come in and wire up some outlets, the light pictured is going to go away as it's in the way of my planned upper shelf and then it should be momentarily done. I've got three more walls in the garage, after all ;)

Well, almost a month ago I sold my house and bought a house/land up in the hills. That will be the retirement/weekend home. We'll live in her house for now.
The challenge is I had a 2 car garage full of stuff and she has a 1 car garage and she thinks she should be able to park in it. (who does that??)

In between my house selling and the new place closing, I moved all my stuff into her garage. I've since been moving it up to the hills and trying to organize her garage so I can have a work space and she can still park her car.
Pictures of her garage before, during and now...
