Suspension rebuild with some of the last NOS parts in the world.

Leaning towards dark bronze wheels, so wanted to mock up with a close rattle can match before deciding on powder coating. The wheels are also rare. These are 1999 vintage 5ZR's made in Japan.

Bessy finished a project finally! I've had this little vise for a few years, and decided a while back it needed some TLC. This little RAE vise was my grandfather's. I didn't know him unfortunately, but from what I hear I'm a lot alike him, in the sense I too cannot seem to finish projects before starting a new one.

So here it is! 69f49873002b2404a91e2aae6532927d.jpgdb5b268964ba55b59158ff222d83e055.jpg710355bb9eb856cf8cbefc7f669ca796.jpg61b8f7dcb38e859432f408ddd7d35a3f.jpgfd3047a24a02f73fef6f610548dcd625.jpgb96e32ac1bc25023f99469cf39259b3d.jpg

Tesla coil?

:beer::lol_hitti

Well it worked! Dog woke me up in the early morning when thunder rolled in, and I saw the flashes! Oh, I also have improved illumination over one of my work tables :)

Since I needed some tools I also got annoyed at the state of my basement workshop so I started clearing out junk and recycling. You know, I've been dabbling in electronics since I was a teenager (I'm 57 this year), computers since the 80's, sound systems since a young adult and I have what amounts to about 10 miles of cables in boxes in the house. Not one ****** cable to connect stereo speakers to my laptop. Seriously!? I'm sure when I spend the $1.50 I'll find a dozen.

Mrs Outlander indicated a new TV and reclining chair is in my future so the other end of the basement can providing large screen TV viewing! She's a keeper

More basement workshop cleanup today in between ATV club admin work.

Spent 13.5 hours yesterday replacing lower control arms, tie rod ends, struts, hub bearings, sway bar end links, and half shafts in my 05 Le Sabre Drivers side axle shaft was so seized in the hub I ended up using a cutting tip made for 3" plate steel to cut it out of the hub. Damn near set the car on fire. Was not pretty. Should've/could've had both sides done in 3 hours.

No lift, still sore today.

Declare victory and depart the field.

Oh, and Advil.

.

And just a little caffeine to help it work! (I keep small bottles of coke around for any aches and pains, (8 oz?) and one will give me usually 3 "extra doses" of caffeine when needed along with Tylenol. (helps for aspirin or Advil or what have you as well)

Had 2 buddies keeping me company, lending a hand for a while. Left once the bearing was on the floor and the fire was out. Bet it took me 3 hours just to reassemble the drivers side. At 50 with bad rotator cuffs and lower back I'm not as bendy as I once was. Good thing I don't work on piece rate! Left over muscle relaxer and pain pill kept me asleep last night.

Still have to put a power brake booster on my F-250 once I regain some motivation and my back stops creaking- which may be a while.

Getting older *****.

:thumbup:Finished up on a Radio Flyer wagon for my grandson, flea market find that just needed a little attention. Stripped the paint, repainted, sanding, stained, polyed the wood rails and replaced the corroded hardware with stainless steel. He's two so he will be enjoying it for awhile.

Finished stripping the reflective tape off my semi-retired (hibernating?) bicycle frame. There's still some adhesive residue left, but its pretty close to ready for a repaint, but that isn't going to happen until I quit riding my new-new bike every chance I get.

I cleaned up a lot of sawdust from previous projects, some leaves since a window is cracked etc. I put a lot of tools away and swept the workbench down a bit. General re-org to make it moderately harder for my kids to interfere with my productivity.

Did some lawn edging on the back of the shop. Hot and humid, I was a mess. One of them problem mowing areas.

Yesterday: Changed '18 WRX sparkplugs

Today: Changed '99 Z3 sparkplugs, helped with WRX oil and rotated tires. Also made great progress in learning cast aluminum TIG.

Might change the bimmer oil in a few. I guess it depends on how lazy I am.

Lowered my 18' Y-flyer sailboat from the garage ceiling where it has been sleeping for over 15 years. I bought it for cheap, the fore deck was spongy because the foam core had split. I sailed it for a season then did surgery on the deck but the weather turned too cold before I finished so I hung it from the trusses over the winter but never got back to it. With 6 sailboats it's time to thin the herd, I will finish the repairs and get it ready for a sale next spring. BTW, the inside of the garage looks bigger now.

Aldeanfan, That Black and Decker workmate is an absolute keeper. I've had mine forever and it is one of the handiest tools in the shop.

^^ this! I have my Dad's. Love it!

Well, returning to the scene of the crime(the cluttered basement workshop) I randomly found not 1, but 2 audio cables I was looking for so the speakers were changed.

Also connected a second monitor to my laptop but didn't like it so I went back to the laptop + 1 monitor.

Built a bigger workbench. 4'x8'. Slightly shorter than the Table Saw. Used it to cut down a full sheet of MDF to make paper storage for the wife's art classroom.

I gotta tidy mine right up, been doin demolition of my fence and digging new footing holes so time to take a step back and clean up before moving forward.

Doing this really has humbled me as a homeowner.

I also got to make some calls about getting cheaper insurance on my pleasure use truck as well order up my new trailer that I won last night on Facebook.

16’ beavertail optioned out, I want the exact same options and specs but with dual 5200 lb axles for just that little more capacity.

Made a quick and dirty prop for the cover on my new Blackstone griddle. Only using the cover for my grill right now until I order the proper one. It's a bit too loose and when it rained the other day the water pooled on top and some seeped through the cover, this should help temporarily. Bonus shot of dinner. 23742cb845e0c3f307b38a676a6a050c.jpg114be73d25665f6e4d6a04145182c12a.jpg247b8f10bfd2a172cc5a04b2a5133f53.jpg

After striking out at the junkyard yesterday, I just decided to make my own transmission lines today.

I decided to incorporate the original rubber pieces as well (for flex joints) and of course one leaks.

SO, it is bypassed with a rubber hose for now. I will eventually have new hoses made, so I’m glad I set it up to accept them.

I was able to drive the truck today. Not far, just down the street and back. Still have brakes to bleed, and a few minor details.

But overall, I am happy with my progress today!

Crawled into the attic to get a 14-2 line ran for the outlet for my NG heater that will be getting installed next week. Need to get an electrical box so I can finish it up tonight and run the thermostat wire.

Tidied up the boards that were all thrown into the garage during demo.

Now time to hit up Home Depot for my lumber and start construction of my new 6’6” tall fence. Then take a couple days off to let the calluses calm down.

As I just waiting on my brother to be able to take me down to his father in laws place to pick up my new extended cab long box workhorse. Then next week I pick up my new flat deck trailer to get my off-road truck out to the back country trails.

May I ask why?

Tommy

60k interval called for them; brother wanted them done. We worked out a trade and he helped, even though I did most of the work.

I will admit that the old ones were in perfect shape, but it's not my money, and he couldn't know that the old ones were fine.
