What is it with the popularity of those feet all of a sudden? I have seen a few in the last few days. The last I got to see had been done with Shine on them as in Jimmy Shine.

Never sure if sharing the secret will get me excluded or an applause. (There is a lot of work that goes on in the shadows)
So I guess silence is the safer option here, unless the Grand Master or one of his Lieutenants feel it worthy of sharing, as this is strictly by invitation.
What I will say is that it is a very small and exclusive group, and I suspect you would not make the criteria for inclusion. Sorry.
I do feel honoured to be included and worthy of the bestowment.

Skilled and knowledgeable in many different fields! You have some amazing talents!

DaBarn, your casting does have a magical look about it, very nice!
My family and I returned from a nine day camping trip circumnavigating Lake Erie and low-and-behold, what was awaiting my return? QST #62!! My wife doesn't quite understand how it appeared or why I was so excited, but whatever...It gave me a chance to talk to her and my teenage kids about this community and 1/2Cup.![]()
Andy, I greatly appreciate it. And now I have your address so perhaps someday you will receive a mystery package as well.
I've put the plaque up on my "welding tower" for now. I hope to give it a treatment similar to BearsFan at some point, but it looks great as is.
Thanks Andy, its a wonderful thing you are doing.
-Derek
Sorry to hi-jack the thread, but this is on my bucket list.
Did you post highlights about the trip anywhere?
What was your favorite part/place?
Did you follow the Lake Erie Circle tour?
Maybe PM me?
Thanks
Great work with the QST plaques Andy!
T
Yes I have one, its pitted but complete. I need to load up the stuff I have for you and blow down in your neck of the woods. I'm going to take a picture of a machine and see if you might like it. More to tell you with the picture.
Andy
I received a nice delivery through the mail late this week:

Hammer number 36, and in particular, memorial casting number 14....:
![]()
Thanks heaps. I can now go to work planning out my 1/2Cup memorial.
And Andy, - I'm amazed at the lightness of the hammer. And the beautiful handle. Did you just treat that with BLO?
I'm really chuffed, and will treasure both of them for the rest of my time.
Lyndon
Grateful![]()

So glad you like them, Lyndon. Use the hammer, you'll be surprised how hard it hits. Handle is just shellacked. Does hold up to use. The wood is Bois d'arc, native American bow wood. It will darken with light contact like cherry and many other woods.Wow, Andy is spooled up to full production!

Those are the best gift and memorial. Thanks again, it has a double life. When I see the QST, I remember Steve 1/2 cup and Andy who has donated time from his life to do this for lots of people he has never met. Much appreciated sir.![]()
Andy,
You're a regular Renaissance man!Skilled and knowledgeable in many different fields! You have some amazing talents!
I would like to think that I could be as productive (doubt I will match the skill though) when I retire and have the time to pursue some hobbies more.
Cheers!!
P.s. just checking that you sent a QST medallion out, as I haven't received it yet. Canada Post is still using dog sleds for some deliveries I think.
Love the hoist, but my fear of "confined" would have kept me out of that hole!

Oh Andy. We missed you. Was about to send a search party out!
Bret

Andy, the install looks good to someone that does not have a clue (me).
I suspect the majority of the readers are acquainted with old technology.

Just don't go in there with it! One or the other. If it breaks it comes out for repair lol
I had a line on one of those lift heads a few years ago. I was going to put it next to the Texaco station as a work area. When I went to pick it up the guy had sold it for scrap. He said he didn't think I was serious about picking it up.
Nice to see the in ground lift getting a new lease on life, as always Andy, well done.

When dad sold his gas station in 1981, we moved both hoists home, the frame and drive on hoists. What a job.
Just catching up Andy, been busy most of the summer keeping ahead of the weeds on my little farm, fence rows still look terrible, thinking of buying some goats to chew those weeds down!
Glad to see your still hard at it!
Andy: i've got a lot of catching up to do on your thread and I sure will try once the rains come to my part of the world again. that said you've been extra busy and the post office gal might be thinking about not retiring now that you are having her send stuff to all parts of the world cause i'm sure you make her day when you show up with your packages, that smile and your sense of humor.
keep up the great work and nice looking lift too. looks like grandson thinks he lifted it in by hand?
cheers
"One Day" I will put a in ground lift in the floor of my not-yet-built shop. The plan is to recess it a bit more so the entire lift is below grade when it is retracted. I plan to put a cover of sorts that can be driven over and potentially used as a work surface when it's raised out of the floor a bit.
It seems I need to dig out a photo of a dune buggy I used to own that had two left feet for pedals as that seems to be the trend here lately. They were not personalized but were still a neat piece of the rig.
Awesome job getting the lift finished and in the pit!
What's the story with BB-8 overseeing the installation?![]()
Andy,
I know it's not true, but you make it look so easy . . . truly the mark of a professional. Sweet job!
Glad you showing the younger generation on how to do it.
Andy,
I spoke too soon. The Emblem has landed! (#63)

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Now I have to clean up my shop and prepare a place before bringing it in, along with the sticker from Gazza.
EDIT:
You know, after holding this casting and the stickers ... it took me by surprise that it hit me a lot more than I ever thought it would. ... Holding this in my hands and lookng at the stickers ... Just a feeling of solemnity knowing how much impact Steve's presence has had on everyone he touched through the Garage Journal ...........
I'm enjoying a moment of quiet reflection!!!
Cheers!
Slim does make you take pause when you pick up the emblem.
Andy, great photo of your grandson. To bad you didn’t capture him muscling the lift into the hole.

Now if I can just find them when I could use them. Should have bought five pair.![]()
Are the jaws harder than Stilton cheese?Andy, those are neat pliers and would be handy for getting into tight places. If you like interesting pliers, next time you are in a Harbor Freight store you might look for a pair of these.

I like these because they lock on the object so I can let go and use my hand elsewhere. They have come in handy on a couple of occasions.
Tym, a USA-made Nicholson mill ******* file doesn't scratch the jaws. I didn't try the mill ******* on a block of Stilton because the smell lingers (the dog knows when Stilton is around). Are the jaws harder than Stilton cheese?
That is a very cool pair of pliers.
Haha, I know that feeling!
Those are a cool set of pliers. I like. Be sure to show us, after you find them, What you project you use them on. I know I could have used something like that in the past. Always good to see what you are busy with, Andy.

Andy: aren't you supposed to leave new tools in their packages for a while?
nice looking tool and not sure what i'd use it for either, but I might have to get one.
have a great day!!!

Speaking of old people loosing tools.
I had A PHILLIPS SCREW DRIVER in my hand today for less than 2 minutes and I removed 2 screws and handed them and a battery tender to Paul and he asked for the screw driver and It was gone. Neither of us has moved either of our feet
and it is still gone![]()

Not sure I want to hear any details on that statement!![]()
Cheers!

Those double jointed pliers are pretty neat. Nice for fishing things out
So no cutting the cheese in Stilton?

I remember the first batch of Stilton cheese I got, the container reminded you to scrape off the layer of mold before scooping some out.
I'd rather cut the cheese in France.

I don't cook much, so I prefer to have m'lady cut the cheese and I just savor the aroma...

Cookin' with gas?
