Bit of a sad day today. Callie Rose has been with us a year. Her owner needed a home for her as his wife couldn't tolerate her.

Friday the owner came back, after a year, and said they had separated. Callie was excited to see him. Remembered his old commands. I told him he was free to take her and today he came and got her. A little bittersweet but it is best for her. He dotes on her. I think the wife was jealous. It's best for Callie.

She went with me everywhere every day.

She got in trouble trying to protect me from the cows.

attachment.php

Because of rat poison she was not allowed in the shop but she helped best she could and was always watching casting. When I entered the shop she would run around to the foundry to wait in case I came out.

Enjoyed the fruits of deer season.

And was always there.

Bon voyage my friend.

Andy, that is tough!

I can see where you couldn't refuse, especially with the disruption in her owner's family.

I'm sure you will miss her, as I will miss seeing her devotion to you, and her antics around the farm.

As usual, you have provided a fitting tribute and sendoff to her.

I hope she will provide as much companionship and comfort to her owner as she obviously has to you.

Andy,
Sorry to hear of Callie's move. We lost our dog to the highway a few years back and it was a very sad day for the whole family. +1 on Hotfr8's comments.

Cheers!

Well......

That kinda ***** big time.

Wondering if I should even make the pilgrimage now.

She surely gave me all the attention a guest could expect and then some.

Sorry to hear this Andy.

But if she had two good homes, this is the right, if painful thing to do.

This makes me terribly sad to read, but I agree that you made the right decision. You gave her a great home for the year she was with you, and provided the bridge to re-unite her with her owner when the time was right...

Andy, I already know you're an honorable guy. But I have to say that you didn't make the decision to return her to her previous owner she made the decision for you. You simply followed her wishes. I am sure you will visit with each other again, hopefully often.

Andy, if you were closer would give you a pup. We started raising mini donkeys a few years back (they are cute and if you sell them at weaning they are still cute and people pay decent money). So, our farm dog this year decided to kill one and drag it around the farm and play with it. She knew better. Buried both carcasses. That was this spring. Refuse to pay "adoption or rehoming" fees. Hundreds of dollars for dogs as a kid we called mutts. Well, 7 weeks ago a buddy had a dog have pups, couldn't decide which pup I wanted so this Friday bringing two female pups home. Mother is lab and golden retriever, dad is rottwellier. One pup is all black, other is black and tan, hoping both are short haired. Was going to name them Ruger and Colt, grandson said Ruger and Cougar and I agreed. Will post pictures after this weekend, we host our family reunion on our farm Sunday of Labor Day so getting ready and will be busy through the weekend. But, if you were close, would part with Cougar, the black and tan.
I agree, you did the right thing even though it hurts the heart.

Well, I'm jealous of the dog, too. I wish I could run that fast and that long and have that much fun racing the show truck.
Sorry you had to give up your pal, but I know you will keep on keeping on.

Thanks for the kind words. If she comes back on her own then we'll know what she wants.

Hopefully she will come back ocasionally to visit you Andy.

Hmmm, we'll see. She's only about 1/2 mile away.

Dogs love good people and never forget them. Callie will be missed and she will miss you. Gift her a visit once in a while.

Yeah, that's why she went home.

I sure hope so. In the meanwhile, it seems Andy needs a new dog. Fitting day, too.

I've still got Hershey and Lela. Really don't need three.

Thanks for the tribute, Rian. She did have two good homes, and her other human teaches her commands and tricks and works with her a lot. I just let her hang out.

Thanks for the offer and the post. As I said, two dogs are enough, three were not too many.

She can run for sure. She was a rescue dog several years ago so we don't know her heritage, she does not look like a greyhound.

Andy sorry you had to do the right thing. That makes it even more impressive. Would have expected nothing less from you.

Andy: sorry for your loss and I bet your wife and Hershey miss Cali nearly as much too.

like others have said it's sort of a sad happy day and maybe Cali will come back for a visit now and then to say hi.

I know you've been a very busy guy with all the casting and mailing and hoping the cows understand. Bull still alive and doing his job with a limp?

take care my friend!!

Umm, Hershey will not miss her. They were always competitors. Hershey is a happy girl, she oulasted her competition.

Bull is doing fine, leg still swollen but he's used to it.

Callie was such a great dog to come look after you for a bit.

You know what they say Andy. If you love it, set it free!

Reminds me of the song "We'll Sing in the Sunshine".

I need a good QST shop dog.

Watch for strays, their the best.

Everyone does!

Agreed!!!! Any dog that chooses you, will be the most loyal dog you will ever have.

Glen

You are SOOO right. We found Molly half starved wondering lost in the wash across from our property. She jumped into my truck and snuggled right in on Ann's lap. She was only 3 month old according to the vet. She is 9yrs now. We had her D.& A. tested to find out she is a designer dog 1/2 pure breed pit bull and 1/2 pure bred Doberman Pincher. with those credentials you would expect a BADASS dog but she is as gentle as a lamb and smart as a whip.

I think that will work.

See you then!

Well put. Hershey chose us, or rather our farm. Initially she tried to keep me away from the stack of tractor tires she had chosen as a home.

Hershey, good dog. Andy, can you whip up some anti-hurricane castings for us?

Sorry, I checked my patterns and all I can find are for uncle-hurricane castings.

Very cool Don. Hershey is also part pit bull and likely Labrador. She to is gentle, kind and smart however she is also ferocious when hunting down wild animals and often returns from her forays in the brush with cuts and scrapes mostly on her front legs. Lately she has been tangling with a skunk somewhere. After a few days she goes back for more and has the cologne to prove it.

Great for the four of us to spend time with you the last two days Andy.

Thanks for the food, hospitality and castings we did.

I am sure Dennis enjoyed beating on your Chevy trunk lid too.

Just a quick copy and paste from the travel thread.......

Andy bought a 1948 Chevrolet Business mans Coupe at auction over a year ago.

But being retired, of course is crazy busy at all times.

Anyway, Dennis being a body guy, offered to remove some of the dents for him, deck lid in situ.

So the first job was hammering metal.

With nothing more than hammers and some spoons and dollies, he could not do as much as he wanted to, but it’s now ready for the next step which will be pulling the low spots back, which Andy will do.

Ready for the pin puller, then more fine tuning, skim filler and paint.

Andy chose not to remove the complex inner skin of the lid, which would make the job really easy.

In the mean time we prepped a few molds for some castings I wanted to do.

Masters out.

Ready for casting.

The casting need to be done early morning, so we would be back early on Friday morning before 08.00 to melt and cast these.

So this is out of sequence to the actual trip as Thursday evening still needs to be written up.

FRIDAY MORNING.

HEADED INTO THE SHOP.........

HOW MANY PEOPLE OWN A CABOOSE ON THEIR LAND??

One of many.

Melting videos not uploaded, will need to edit and upload some time, it takes too much time.

Open casting is not as precise, but I wanted a paperweight for my coffee table.

Results.

These are for the tailgate bench I built previously.

Paperweight, includes extra flow out that I had created in sand template.

Craig finishing off the plaques, after Dennis has trimmed then on the bandsaw.

After this we headed out to ur Lakeside Motel that Adam had gone to arrange earlier in the day while we were all doing stuff on the farm.

Craig was a bit tired and clocked out before dinner.

I will go back into the sequence later to update on the evening and motel etc.

Now get going for another long day.

Wish I were there. My old traveling buddy died several months ago. Hard to find someone free enough, and well enough, to travel any more. I am still looking though. Too bad my son in law lives a thousand miles in the wrong direction. Thanks for letting me live vicariously though. Good times. Bobby

Looks like y'all had some QST in OIF's shed.. Thanks for the update and pictures, helps me live vicariously through you guys too..

We sure did!! Andy is a quality host, only wish we were able to spend a bit more time with him.

Andy's full day schedule just too much for the young lad? :willy_nil

PS. Looks like Andy is too tired to post as well. So maybe it is Grizz running everyone ragged. :lol_hitti

Yep, this trip is tiring enough trying to get to seeing everyone and everything, then you meet people like Andy who just drain the rest of the energy out you. I hope I'm as active in retirement.

Andy is fine.

Spoke with him via text this morning.

I think he just needs a few days to regroup, he has some stuff to deal with.

Normal transmission to be resumed soon.

I kept seeing the quality shed time castings in other threads so I decided to catch up with your thread. It took almost two days to go through the 381 pages but I am now at the end.
Really enjoy your work.

Andy is an inspiration!

Always reminds me to do a little or as much as I can every day.

It is Saturday after all, so definitely time for me to get off my **** in front of the PC and out to the workshop!
