A full day at the day job leaves me just enough time to inspect what ever progress or lack of progress occurred in my absence.

Today I came home to find the house had been wrapped in tyvek. The plumbers had set both tubs, completed the rough ins, and were pumping it up to 120psi for an inspection tomorrow morning.

Drip edge had been installed along the entire roof line, and the hurricane tie guy was finishing up epoxying all the tie rods into the slab (they get inspected too).

With a 3-day weekend (and possible hurricane winds), I really want to get started on getting the steel set for the shop, but there may be other things that need to be done as much as I really don't want to do them.

We are going to rent a self storage unit. I need to go and take advantage of the labor day sales and buy all of the kitchen appliances. I also need to buy all of the tile that we picked out for the entire house and put that in the storage unit.

If its windy and raining, I guess I'm going shopping.

Ohh a bathtub. No more stinky. :)

Willie, that tub is for Mrs. Mac. Just to the right of the tub is Mac's "Sports shower", no door, no curtain, no threshold (wheel chair accessible for when I get really old). There will be a rain head mounted on the 10' ceiling in addition to a regular shower head and you are 100% correct. No more stinky.

WFH (that's Woo Freaking Hoo) for those of you that haven't been paying attention. (not you Dan, you're spot on).

Well Mac, looks like you’ll be getting your first Florida Hurricane.
Welcome to Florida!!

On a serious note, stay safe and hunker down.

The stores are probably out of water already, so you’ll just have to stock up on beer.

Are you still moving your RV to property or waiting it out?

I've been through more than my share of hurricanes both on land and at sea, although this will be my first "Florida hurricane".

I am well provisioned and I plan on not moving until this blow passes. I am however thinking I may relocate the RV on this property next to a large building instead of under the trees where I'm currently at.

Today's progress at the Grove:

Rough plumbing passed inspection.
Doors got delivered.
HVAC trunks and piping got delivered.
The full dumpster was replaced with an empty dumpster.

No pictures were taken.

Sounds like things are moving along.
RV on west side of house is a lot better than under trees.

I talked to my host tonight ( the guy who owns this property I'm camped out on) and we decided to leave my RV as it sits and park a roll off container truck (with container) on both sides of the RV as a wind block. Put the truck on the back side real close and just give me enough room on the front side to open the door. I'm well fueled and provisioned to stay put, but also well prepared to leave if I have to.

We actually got some work done at the Grove today in between rain squalls. The last little bit of sheathing and Tyvek got put on the back of the house. The well drillers showed up and got started. The put 158' of 4" casing in the ground and got it grouted in before the rain ended the day early.

I have 2 days before big winds are expected so I have to get my car port tent taken down. If the rain holds off I'll start putting in the last 115' of 2" conduit from the meter to the house. And I most likely get the steel rafter for the shop shook out on the slab now that its got over 10 days of cure and I can drive my machine on it.

I almost forgot, the HVAC guy installed the big silver spider in the attic.

Hopefully the wind doesn't close that gap to where you can't get out!! Although
you can call for help :Mr.T:

Good luck and Godspeed.

Dorian has moved along and now things will get back to normal.
A lot has happened in the last 4 days. Sometime before 1130:am on Sunday, all of the windows got installed in the house.

Monday was a wash since everyone was making last minute hurricane preparations.

Tuesday morning two electricians show up and start the electrical rough in. I was surprised to see them show up today and finish the entire house, Its ready for rough inspection tomorrow.

I was supposed to fly back to NJ this coming Monday but plans changed and I am now going to NJ a week later. Tomorrow after work I will install the RV outlet on the meter base. Friday I'll have a little ground leveling to do, and Saturday I will move the RV to the Grove and take up residence on my own land. WFH

That will give me a week to get the shop steel up. I don't plan on hanging the tin until I get back from NJ but I also can't afford a 2-week delay.

man I know its common in FL but I can't get over nice places using CPVC for water supply.

also why no metal trunks on HVAC? looks like a perfect place for a straight shot of metal?

Do you have a build thread? Do you have any Major lessons learned now that you're build is done?

I got home today to find that the gas lines for the water heater, dryer, range, and fire place had been run along with the vent for the water heater.

The roofing material had been delivered to the roof.

The well driller had 660' of drill string in the ground and were not finished drilling.

I will get the RV outlet finished tomorrow after work and will relocate the RV to my property sometime tomorrow.

I will wake up on Sunday to a new day and start raising steel for the shop.

No pictures today but I should have a bunch tomorrow.

You are fortunate on the GC you have. Amazing progress. Wow, 660' no water. Aren't you about 660' from the river? Sounds like a Sunday will be the start of a new day.

Shorty,
We did our due diligence on GC's. In our case is is not so much the GC but the project manager they assigned to our job. Jerry is 100% on the job even when he is sleeping at night. He keeps the job moving and makes sure that there is always progress being made.

The well driller told me that our well would be about 700'.

Sunday will be the start of a new phase in our building project.

I started to pre-wire the RV box and outlet tonight and quickly realized that the receptacle I bought was wrong. I grabbed a receptacle from the TT30 box and came out with a 50amp range receptacle. I'll stop at the box store on the way home from work tomorrow and make the change.

I WILL have electric at the grove and move the RV tomorrow.

I’m one not totally sold on cpvc yet. Still like using cooper myself and after using pex in my camper I would use that. Flex insulated ducting is about all they use down here. Only thing that is metal in my system is the vent boxes and that’s from 1986. Since all ducting in attic and no basement flex ducting so much easier on install.

no build thread, after being on here for years lurking, I was excited to start my thread while in the process of building but I was so busy between working shift work that I never get the chance to start a thread, I do have plenty of pictures though, I hope to start one soon and in a story time line I guess... my home build was an amazing experience and I learned so much about it, but it had its rough times with my builder.

Reading through your thread it seems like you got a great handle on everything, you are on top of your build..

right off top of my head, if not decided yet, I strongly recommend to use spray foam for insulation... I do have to say that I only spray foamed my walls though, I did NOT wanted to do the roof with spray foam insulation, spray foam insulation made a world of the difference in this texas summer heat. I also pre-wired everything I could while the house was studded, media room, patio and garage for future speakers, wired for satellite and internet and speaker wire for every bedroom, living room, garage, patio and even the laundry room...(will have a security camera monitor in laundry), also put 2x8 boards in between the studs where the tvs will be hanged, my framer guy even put 2x8 board between the studs in the restrooms for the toilet paper holders! lol...

ap2002,
Thanks for your insight, I'll expand my response further tomorrow when I have more time.

Today was HUGE. I vacated the MX park and moved to the Grove.
On the way home from work I stopped at the Grove to install the TT30 electric outlet. Then I went to home to break camp, it took me about 3 hours to get the trailer ready for the 3.5 mile trip to o the Grove.

Once I got the trailer where I wanted it, the first order of business was to plug it in and make sure that I had AC. After that it took me about 2 hours to move some dirt and get everything leveled.

It was a long day and I am finally residing one my own property. This is a game changer as I don't have to think about driving home for dinner and knocking off work early. I LIVE HERE NOW!

Grove Acres is the place to be. Florida living is the life for you. :deathmeta:

I'd say the best pic is the last one. Hopefully you keep the RV there so we have a place to stay when we visit?

Shorty, The trailer will be here for the duration of the build. There is a pull out couch and a dinette that converts to a bed for those that make early reservations for the "Erect-a-thon" weekend seminar getaway.

Spots are filling up fast so make your reservations early.

I'll get an early start on the domestic chores tomorrow (laundry mat and grocery shopping), and then see how much steel can get put together.
It's a bummer when you are living the single life and that domestic stuff gets in the way.

And here I thought my 600 foot well was deep. At least I have 540 feet of water on standby. I was told they drilled for almost a week ( lots of rock here) and hit nothing, then when they hit water it filled up within minutes.

It's official, I got partial erection. I actually got it up and standing proud.

While I did get up early and get all my domestic chores done by 9am, there was still a bunch of things that needed to get done before I could get to work on the shop. I took down the HF car tent for the hurricane and I had to put that back up. And I had to make a trip back to the MX park and put my vacated campsite back the way I found it. I always try to leave a campsite better than I found it.

I have more nylon slings and chokers than you can shake a stick at back in my NJ shop but I have nothing here at the Grove so it took a trip to Tractor supply.

As it turned out I didn't get started doing anything on the shop till almost 3pm.
I have had many nights thinking about how to got this erection thing done and here's what I came up with.

I bought 2 tow hooks from HF and mounted them on the bottom of my forks. After bolting 2 columns and rafters together, I put the chokers on the rafters and lifted the entire thing and set it on the mounting bolts and snugged it down. Then I lowered the forks and the chokers popped off the tow hooks on the forks. It sounds easy but it did come with a certain amount of "Pucker Factor" when you're doing it solo.

It took a little over 3 hours to get the first set up in the air and bolted down and Im sure the next 3 sets will take about an hour each. Since I'm off tomorrow I should have the bulk of the steel skeleton done by the end of the day.

Cool way to rig, was wondering if bobcat would have the reach, never considered that forks would go straight up.

The tabs on the beams will help with attachment of the purlins.

Nice, you’re on your way.

Like I said, I've had way too many sleepless nights thinking about this.

I ran the forks straight up and a tape measure said I could do it with an inch to spare. In reality I think I was about 1/4" too short but a 6' pry bar makes 1/4" inconsequential.

It's game on for tomorrow.

The tab on the bottom of the rafters are for rafter braces. Short sections of angle that tie the bottom of the rafter to the purlin to prevent radial flex.

That’s cool Mack. Glad I’m not there inspecting safety procedures.

Craig, if it was my luck, I’d have assembled the top piece upside down.

Mac, I was pleased to get my car tent cover back up and all the stuff out of the shed yesterday. Took me from noon to four to get it done. Now I feel like a slacker -- you were just getting started.
