I have been a little inactive here again after doing a ton of work in my old garage. You can check out that remodel HERE. After years of dealing with all kinds of stuff out in that garage, I had finally got it "done" with heat, lighting, power, and storage. Just in time for our house to get broken into and robbed. That pushed us to move which we were already thinking about before it happened. Probably were not going to do anything for a couple years, but that's life and it all worked out OK so far.
We loved our first house, but needed more garage, and more space. We were very close to our neighbors and while we got along fine with them, we just wanted more space. So I told our realtors it has to have a 3 car garage, and either a building on site, or enough room to put a building on site. Of course we were limited by budget and location (because of work), but they came though with some solid options. I pretty much had made up my mind before we even looked, but as soon as we saw this one we knew. We had a bit of a nightmare with the selling of our old house. It was all due to a shady lender on the buyers side. Luckily we had very understanding sellers on the new place and were able to close after months of BS and us renting it for a short time.
Here are a couple pics of the garage when we did the inspection.
If my memory serves, the garage is about 31' wide, 21' deep and has 11' ceilings. The lighting is workable for now, but I have no idea whats up with that wiring, and I want it brighter of course. Gas heat is nice to already have all ready to go as well. We will see how well it is able to keep up with these IL winters, but I think it will be fine. I need to add a sub panel for some 220v power, and more outlets. It has 4 I think around which is pretty good for a standard garage, but not near enough for someone who does serious work.
Quick specs on the rest of the house, its about 2,300 square feet plus a full unfinished basement. 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath with a rough in the basement for another bathroom. It is on a touch over an acre, and I am considering buying the ~0.5 acre that is on the one side. Its a small subdivision outside a small town. We absolutely love it out here, and it feels like we are on vacation every day. Just so peaceful.
Anyway back to the garage. I haven't really done much yet since we more or less just moved in. I added a 4 post lift for some extra storage.
During assembly
Got my SC on it for the first time
I removed the opener (for now) so I could get it higher. I am 6' 4" so I need as much height as I can get
Hung up the casters out of the way. Yes it bugs me they are crooked
After a ton of screwing around I finally got some shelving units. Don't ask.
Still a huge mess, but getting a LOT better here.
First time in my life I have ever had all of my vehicles in one garage!
Last weekend I picked up a new toy to help around the property (yard ****, pulling bushes, snow plowing, etc.) and to have some fun with
All of the plow stuff, minus the winch. The were out of stock, so I need to pick it up now that they are in.
Still able to fit everything inside!!! Don't mind the wife's car, I was putting in some new headlights and OEM fog lights for her. Its dark in the country
That's about all for now, which I know is not much. Next up on the to-do list is power for sure. I need to land a sub panel out there so I can get back to welding on my car. I want to replace/repair the outlets that are already out there since some have been hit with ****. Then I will surface mount new stuff from the sub panel. I won't go as crazy as I did in the old house since the plan is to put up a building ASAP, but I will set it up nice. After that I am going to guess new LED lighting. Besides that I have some drywall repair to do, new coat of paint, small stuff like that. I miss how nice I had the old garage set up at the end, but it should be a much shorter time to get this one up to speed. Plus it is fantastic having so much more space!!!
Thanks for checking it out, and check back in for updates!
