When to an estate sale with the wife today, looking for antiques. We found them, but there were way overpriced for the condition. We did pick up these two lamps though:

We have an older house, so these will go nicely. The wife also picked up some art and some work clothes. We spent $70 for everything. Then we went back to the HVAC sale I hit yesterday, as I was looking for more Proto metrics and Bonney refrigeration tools. Found both, and more to boot.

Willams, Snap-on and misc. in the top-left group. The bottom left are the refrigeration items, mostly Duro/Industro, but the highlight is the 1/4 to 3/8 adaptor. A couple random wrenches and a Blackhawk ratchet and on the right is the Proto Empire stuff, including the metric. Also, got this book:

Spent $12

And more from last weeks estate sale haul. This Craftsman top box is dated 11-82 and like the bottom is in excellent shape. It was priced at $90, I opened up a couple of drawers, spotted one item and bought it! Can you see what that item was?

Pic 1: 12 drawer top box.

Pic 2: A Craftsman gimmick wrench and odds and ends.

Pic 3: More odds and ends.

Pic 4: All Craftsman pieces.

Pic 5: More Craftsman

Pic 6: Craftsman allen wrenches in the middle drawer and more odds and ends.

Pic 7: More odds and ends.

Was it for the gimmick wrench? [emoji23][emoji6]

Showed up almost 3 hours early and I was number 27 and said WTF found out people started coming the previous night. Got lucky and was in the door about 10mins after it started and bolted for the garage with a tote in hand. Went through everything in about 5 mins.

Bought the contents of a wall at recent online auction. The highlights was this 8 drawer West German made BOTT cabinet. Measures 26 x 24 x 24 and all the drawers are roller bearings. Extremely rare for me to find anything European in my area. Four large 8" American made c-clamps. Some containers of aluminum and stainless small stock pieces along with some miscellaneous tools. One 52" diameter 1/4" thick stainless plate plus around 25-35 dollars in scrap pieces. Paid 124.50 for everything.

Strategic error: caught a cold midweek, so stayed inside most of bright, sunshiny Saturday, sipping tea and catching up on paperwork. Today, attempted to follow up at Blue Ridge flea with a couple vendors who said last week they had “more to bring out.” I knew the elevation would make rain more likely in Saylorsburg, but I went anyway. It was heavily overcast with a light drizzle. The place was nearly deserted. Only one of the vendors was there, and he didn’t want to put out the good stuff in the drizzle. Should have headed south to Quakertown or Bally.
Oh well, I didn’t leave empty-handed: 12’ crowntop tape measure with a kink around the 5’ mark - $1.

It's an Imperial Brass.
What size is it?

And our house is a '13 bungalow, so Stickley/Craftsman is what we look for.
Perfect!

My hometown had a long street near a zinc processing plant with hundreds of identical one-level bungalows, all built between 1900 and 1915. They were built for the workers of the plant, all immigrants from Eastern Europe. My grandparents lived in one of them. The only thing people could do to distinguish their homes was to paint them different colors. As you can imagine, it got colorful. Later, in the 70's, they became something of a drive through tourist thing. And now, with the plant long shut down, the street is being rejuvenated by young families whose breadwinners work in a nearby city.

I found this BLUEPOINT hack saw frame this morning. You just found one of these recently, right?

Oddball padlock, brass pressure gauge and thermometer. $.50/ea. But the best find was this Telechron cyclometer for a mere $20 and it cleaned up so nicely and is fully functional.

Well How Do from Denver, Colorado.
Manic first week of work/travel in the USA but finally found a few items this weekend in Denver.
Most of these came from antique stores so no deals but picked up some items I'd be unlikely to find back in the UK.

> Tin lunch pail with metal handle $5
> Railroad spike $1
> LUFKIN 10' tape measure $2
> Mini "spy" camera, made in Japan $25
> Colorado plate $1
> US Army Collapsible canvas bucket, dated 1943 - $40

Still have a few days in USA then up to Canada until next Sunday. DSC_2167.jpg20191006_160713-COLLAGE.jpg

Oh, you could fill the Blackhawk board! I would even send you a ratchet, as I found one yesterday at an estate sale.

But I totally understand the frustrations of being a GarageJournaller and traveling. Or having a fixation that is only truly satisfied overseas. (I need more CK woodie metric nutdrivers...)

Picked up following at yard sale this week:

Dosch Miter Trimmer (pic 1&2)

Millers Falls Corner Brace Drill 502B (pic 3)

Pair of Breast Shoulder Drills with one that looks like it was user modified.(pic 4 & 5)

W. C. Toles woodworking vise came my way at a yard sale, but this was a bit unusual. First it is a No. 10 FD Junior. That particular woodworking vise was targeted for Elementary and Junior high school students in the 1930's.

Normally on these vises and other Toles models, they show the initials of W.C. and then last name of Toles on front jaw casting. On this particular one, it just says Toles Co.

Second odd thing is that normally Toles are listed for Chicago IL. However, this one was listed as Woodstock, IL

When got vise, it had the front brass dog. However, it was stuck tight. Used a Dremel and opened a small slit on top of each side of dog. Put vise into Evaporust and over time, was eventually able to get the dog to wiggle. Once got dog out, it didn't have a spring in the hollow bottom portion of it. So, added a new spring and also needed a set screw used to lock the dog in down/up position.

Fairly slow weekend, but a few interesting finds. Friday I stopped at a couple of sales that were duds. I then went to the nearby larger town to look at a nice steel cabinet advertised on Offerup. The seller stalled me off with a story about a doctor's appointment when he had said he would be available all morning, so I hit a TOO that had the Threadit die set in photo #1 for $2.00. It will go to a shop I have on our timberland 15 miles away.

Next was a Rummage Sale at a Senior Center where I found the Cee Tee pliers, Long-C #2 tappet wrench and Long-C 1033C DOE 15/16x1" all for $1.50. Photo #2.

The cabinet seller called me and said he had sold the cabinet to someone from Albany, so I missed that one. :( I went to a small town nearby to look at another cabinet which isn't nearly as nice, but for $20.00 will be good storage. Along the way I saw another TOO, where I found the Milwaukee Sawzall shown in the next two photos. It shows little use, and includes the manual and lid insert, plus a blade assortment, some used wood blades, 7 new long metal-cutting blades, and 4 new short metal cutting blades. All for $15.00. Photos 3 and 4.

Photo #5 is the results of today's trip to the monthly local Flea Market.

6 T-handle allen wrenches.

Plomb hinge handle with interesting markings. It is 9-1/2" long, so it should be a #5466, but that number appears nowhere on it. It should have a hole for a 1/2" diameter pin handle, but the hole is 3/8" diameter. The markings are " DMH vPLOMBv, LOS ANGELES 0E, PATENT NO. 1380643" The 0E should be a date code of May, 1940. I have no idea what DMH means.

Plomb WF 84 DBE 13/16x7/8
Proto 96-3/8 punch
Cee Tee 8 inch pliers
Husky 1/2 drive 5/8 socket
Powr-Kraft 1/2 drive 1" socket
Taiwan 15/16 deep 6-point socket (to cut up for a project)
Westline DBE 3/4x25/32
Western Auto 13/16 combo

Total $10.00.

Nope. You have to have a WW2 Jeep. Here’s mine. The water bag and gas can (sorry to you haters) are both from 1943.

Yes Sir!
Great to be able to see a Dreadnought battleship in person.
Biggest we have in the UK is HMS Belfast, which is a Town-class light cruiser.
Have to admit USS Texas looks in pretty rough state, but having read up on her online I see why and some of the plans to save her.

Anyway the Texas BBQ raised my spirits after seeing her [emoji23]

Username already in use: Can you check the date on that can again? USAF started in 1947.

The can is dated 1942. The aviation branch of the Army was renamed from the United States Army Air Corps to United States Army Air Forces on 20 June, 1941. It was informally know as the Air Force, and that became a shortened name for some purposes.

It is entirely appropriate for a 1942 can to have "Air Force" stamped in it during WWII. By the way, that sort of can predated the "jeep" can, so someone may find one with "Air Corps" somewhere!

On Sunday, I went to an auto show and swap about an hour away. Not too much of interest, but I did manage to pick up the following:

An incomplete Action set, SK box (my new favorite) and Cornwell socket tray. $10

P&C puller and impact socket, Wright extention, Plomb NAF wrench and vintage Schwinn grips. $5 for the grips and everything else came from the quarter bin.
Most of the cars were uninteresting, but this was there, a nice super sano flattie:

Last Friday's find, only a few blocks away for a change! Estate sale, the son kept most of his dads tools. A few months ago I picked up a cast iron 10" pot and 10 1/2" pan lid, now I have the 10" lid and 10 1/2" pan to match!

BB; looks like the Coleman lantern reflector is missing the vertical bar that catches the top nut?

Cool that you were able to close the loop on the cast iron!

Needed some more tool space and picked up this Craftsman three piece stack from Marketplace for $100.

Trying to ID it, after first examination the only thing I find stamped in the steel is "Made in USA" which is a good sign I guess but can't find any model numbers. Where would they be? USA stamp was on top of bottom box and on the bottom side of the top two boxes.

Just friction slide drawers but they are full extension, a couple of the large drawers in the base are bent and a couple of the slides allow the drawer to pull all the way out.

How do these drawers detach from the slides? I have the Snap-On tooi and know how to remove those but these are different.

Has all three keys, the lock mechanism is odd and uses some separate bars to keep the drawers closed when locked. See top box.

Any info appreciated.

what are the overall dimensions of the boxes? And a side shot of the roller may help.

Several slide designs so a shot of the slide open can also help.

Standard width and smooth sides, I was hoping they had the extra wide H beam boxes that were top of the line back in the day.

not that those are bad boxes, just nit the "industrial strength" boxes they made.

at a guess I'd say 80's based on the logo style...

BB; looks like the Coleman lantern reflector is missing the vertical bar that catches the top nut?

Cool that you were able to close the loop on the cast iron!

Yes, I looked all over for that vertical bar. The reflector looks unused, still has the large decal on the inside with instructions to remove it before use. The decal looks to have a date, 1974.

P.S. that blue disc next to the no. 0 funnel appears to be an original filter but the felt badly needs replacing!
