Picked up a few nice vintage items today.

1. Vintage original green paint shop stool with back rest. Has height adjustable legs. Has an original tag under the seat from SPS Equipment, Santa Ana, California

2. Vintage little 1-1/2 clamp on vise. I didn't need it, but I really like the curved jaws. Only markings were the number 13.

3. Vintage 'Thimble-Drome' Glow Fuel can with original pump. Its in nice shape overall.

Cold and snowy swap meet this morning, so the number of sellers was way down and the ones who did show up were anxious to pack up and go home. Found a good Nicholson file for $1, a Diamond adjustable wrench and a pair of Diamond pliers I didn't already have for $5 each.

This was maybe the best one - a Thorsen 1/4" drive set. I picked it up to take a closer look, and the seller said "take it, it's yours" as he was putting stuff back in his van. :)

Is that a crack in the base of the vise, or just a line in the crud on top of it? if that's all it is, you got a great deal. :)

Stuart,
Your comment made me go and check. That is a line of crud/peeling paint thankfully.
You had me worried because I thought I had given it a thorough inspection and would not have purchased it if I had noticed a crack in the base, regardless of the low price. All good.

been awhile since i've posted here.
interesting find from yesterday was this c.1960 mueller "improved" model a416 fire hydrant, rescued from previous owner's sideyard where it had been on its side and exposed to the elements for >10 years. removed broken adapter flange, (easily) removed the nozzle caps and bonnet, then washed it down with the 0 degree nozzle for about an hour. cap chains and attaching hardware are missing and it needs blasted & painted, but all in all not bad for $20.
other find is from earlier in the season and was something i'd been watching for. this came in the form of a late 70s(estimated due to electronic ignition and metal fuel tank) coleman powermate 4000w generator. doesn't look/smell like it's ever been fired (super clean dry tank & original paint still on spark plug) - $90

I thought this was pretty funny...I sent this picture to my brother, and he sent me back a picture of the exact same set that he bought in 1970. Note the slight difference in price, I suppose it means the set I got is a year or two newer.

A small but pleasing haul for this weekend… I found 3 modern Cornwell sockets at a junk shop. I was more interested in the super nice Craftsman 25’ tape measure that I found there but it apparently belonged to the owner who had misplaced it and thanked me for finding it for him. :(

I found the Plomb WF-22A sliding tee and P&C 6211 open gear ratchet together. I’d never seen an open gear ratchet in my area let alone held one in my hands. They’re nice! Anybody have any idea what the difference is between WF-22 and WF-22A?

I picked up a lot of stuff this weekend, but only at a few of the stops I made. Friday, I hit a couple that looked promising, spending about $18 and on Sat, I hit a big tool sale, that had mostly junk, and what wasn't was overpriced. But, at that last one, there was a lot of unsorted stuff, and with digging I was able to get some good things. Spent $21 there.
So, in no particular order:

A couple of decent chisels and a WWII Herbrand 3/4. It was $5 for the ratchet.

Plomb, Williams, SK, Craftsman sockets and a couple of vintage switch plates.

Snap-on, Blue Point, Plomb, Williams, Cornwell, CamLoc, and an Atlas lathe wrench.

Jorgenson Clamp, weed puller that needs a new handle, odd c-clamp and a brace I only picked up as it came with an old toolbox I wanted for the leather handle.

16oz plumb bob, Swedish chisel, Blackhawk vise-grips, small Rigid, small duckbills, Goodell Pratt feeler gauge and some misc. burrs and a countersink.

And last but certainly not least:

Couldn't pass this up at $8. Not with that label. I also picked up some books, but forgot to take a picture of them.

Is it 9/32" drive or 1/4" drive? I bet that is the difference.

Last week I dropped in to an estate sale and found an NOS Wilton Scout vise, still in its original cardboard box. These were produced during the 1960’s

I offered $10 and my offer was accepted.

I bought this anvil today at a local antique shop. I have been searching for one for about 2 years and finally came across one that I felt was a reasonable price. It ways 120 lbs. according to my bathroom scales, and is stamped Wilkinson's Dudley.

wmb67's post supports the following mathematical proof:

X = Y

where X = "a $13 Wilton vise" and Y = "You ****...all day long!"

Well done!

No difference. Those letters are seen on all kinds of WF- series pieces, including sockets. All kinds of letters. I think we had a list going at one time. They're not part of the model number. Nobody knows what they signify, but one leading theory is perhaps a supplier location. Edit: Supplier meaning one of the umpteen forges they added to their stable during the war.

So, one of my folks' neighbors sold their home to one of those "we buy ugly houses" companies that is now in the process of gutting the place. Beside the dumpster and pile of twisted metal junk (from which I was able to salvage some metal shelving pieces to repair a rusted set in my folks' garage), I found this WWII jerry can. It has some surface rust inside and out but seems to be otherwise in good shape with what looks like original paint.

Now to cut it open to measure the gauge of the steel. ;)

Markings are:

ICC-5L
NESCO
20-5-45

Can't beat the price of free.

Added this Lenk 222 alcohol torch to a tray of old USA tools at an estate sale. $1 for everything in the tray.

Anyone used one of these, be nice to find some instructions before I try it out and burn myself. :)

Hi Lugz! ABMC stamped on the curved part of each wrench
 That's it. As I should have said, mine have the 'Snidely Whiplash' logo, which was used by the American Bosch Magneto Company, but they are identical! :) I'm going to take a short cut and just link you to my thread, here.

EDIT: For everyone too lazy to click over and scroll, 3bay's **** Dastardly (from 'Whacky Races' cartoons) suggestion is actually a much better comparison than Snidely Whiplash, but the character in ABMC's logo - which dates to the 20's - was actually known as "Fritz the Flyer".

Since it's Columbus Day, tym revived the jerry can subject, and 1492 and 1942 look the same if you're dyslexic, I am going back to this string, which I meant to comment on much earlier, but got distracted...

the Drum is dated 1942 and property of Air Force,
Username already in use: Can you check the date on that can again? USAF started in 1947.
The can is dated 1942. The aviation branch of the Army was renamed from the United States Army Air Corps to United States Army Air Forces on 20 June, 1941. It was informally know as the Air Force, and that became a shortened name for some purposes.
BlueBolt - Apologies for the delayed response. The USAAF can is indeed dated 1942. Note, the United States Army Air Force was founded June 20, 1941. I've found a few USAAF things over the years at the flea. I've got a garment bag and some flight goggles I think.

Firstly, I was just as confused by seeing "AIR FORCE" and "1942" on the bottom of a drum - or on anything else, as Bluebolt. "USAAF" does not stand for U.S. Army Air Force. Singular. It stands for US Army Air Forces, plural. Wiki provides a fairly good benign summary of its creation. But if you dig deeper, you'll find that there was a lot of strife between the War Department and HQ and the US Army Air Corps. In short, the War Department and General Staff were frustrated by their lack of direct control of our long range bomber capability. The USAAF was essentially a shell around and superior to the US Army Air Corps. It gave them the direct control they wanted. They directed USAAF, and USAAF direct the Air Corps. Yes, their was a small medical and supply wing also formed and put under USAAF, but these were largely perfunctory moves to make the strategic move less blunt. In deference to Provincial, it may be true, that the USAAF was informally known as the "Air Force", but I have never seen that term before in a document or on a piece of materiel dated to wartime. And hypothetically, even if it is true, why would they put a marking used in informal settings on a piece of equipment? I have jump suits, goggles, tools, manuals, instruments from various aircraft, and other things, and they are all either marked US Army Air Forces, U.S.A.A.F., Air Corps, or AC. I have never seen the term AIR FORCE on a wartime object or in a wartime document. That is not to doubt Unaiu's ability to ascertain the date on the bottom of his drum, but to suggest that I don't think they're very common. If it's just my blind spot, it's a huge blind spot, and I would love to be alleviated of it with other examples.

Whats to much for that 925 Starrett and i wonder how much it will effect its operation on a home shop scale?

You might not like the answer that GJ will give you regarding price, but as long as you aren't putting a lot of stress on the vise it should be ok. I wouldn't trust it if you were to apply large forces to it. You might look in the other vise threads here and be lucky enough to pick up a static jaw for it.

Thank you for your response. As i have only recently fallen victim to the vice of vises, i missed the jaw support, but for the less than $10 it cost me...

Needed some more tool space and picked up this Craftsman three piece stack from Marketplace for $100.

Trying to ID it, after first examination the only thing I find stamped in the steel is "Made in USA" which is a good sign I guess but can't find any model numbers. Where would they be? USA stamp was on top of bottom box and on the bottom side of the top two boxes.

what are the overall dimensions of the boxes?

Thanks @Outlawmws
Dimensions
Roll Cab including casters: 30 1/2" H - 18" D - 26 1/2" W
Middle riser: 11 1/2 H - 12" D - 26" W
Top Box: 17 1/2" H - 12" D - 26" W

Overall height with casters 59"

at a guess I'd say 80's based on the logo style...

So I agree with Outlawmws, late 1980's boxes. Neither catalog showed your mid box.

Thanks all, I spent some time cleaning up the boxes and found paper Sears labels inside the top drawer (right side) of the intermediate and roll cabinet but not the top cabinet.

So for the record it's a 15 Drawer Stack with
Craftsman #706657870 26" Five Drawer Roller Cabinet and
Craftsman #706658830 26" Three Drawer Intermediate box.

Both of those numbers do come up on SearsPartsDirect but no parts available. I managed to break the Craftsman logo plate on the three drawer while removing stickers. In the end all but very bottom drawers work smoothly. Since it's USA made and Waterloo manufactured I think it was worth what I paid, probably no more though it's pretty lightweight steel and very basic slide setup.

Doesn't look too out of place next to the 80's Snap On roll cab.
