I was able to get one of my unicorn pieces from rileysan, this 8 drawer roller. I also got this 6 drawer top chest. Both need a repaint but the slides are nice and straight and no rust! The 8 drawer is dated 1955 and the 6 drawer has no date on it. Wondering if anyone has the correct badge for the drawer that is missing? Also wondering what color is correct for 1955? I checked the catalog and it is listed as machinery grey. It it the hammered color like jays 3 drawer shown above or is it the battleship grey from the 40’s ?

Like that 8-drawer Smoke! I just picked up that same roller 2 weeks ago at an estate sale. Needs to be cleaned up and restored. Now I'm not sure I've got the time to get around to it anytime soon. I may have to move it on. Do these boxes have a manufacture date stamped somewhere? Pic of mine below.

Thanks for the info on the auto dollies as well.

Good move by JoCo to get this thread moved. It looks like I had only posted once when it was in the general tool discussion. Here is a box owned by a friend of mine.

Glad to see this thread getting some action again! Tex...love those auto dollies and I agree with Smoke that they've seen little to no use. A complete set of bodywork tools (dollies and hammers) recently sold on the Bay. I would LOVE to have had them but the seller was selling them item by item and it would have added up to a fortune. That 8 drawer you have should have the date embossed within the AMD logo behind the heritage badge if you look inside the drawer. It may be covered up by factory installed partitioning as mine is.

Don, your buddy is lucky to have the original tote with that chest! So many Heritage boxes are missing the totes.

Smoke, hate? How do you think I feel about you west coasters tripping over all the Plomb stuff out there???:lol_hitti

They weren't the battleship gray. BTW I LOVE that stack! I saw someplace else where somebody had used Rustoleum Hammered Blue. It actually looked fantastic and I think as close as you'd get without custom mixing. Last I checked you could get it on Amazon. Reviewers were bitching because it "looked too gray". I understand their disappointment if they were expecting true blue but for these late 50s boxes the gray with just a hint of blue is just right. Might be worth ordering a can and doing some experimenting on some stray sheet metal.

Machine grey or battleship grey? I think either would work.

Here is my beat-to-heck stack, showing both colors:

Top is a '55 and bottom is a '58.

Here is a Heritage cantilever box I found at a Tahoe garage sale back in July. It is currently being used to store some Walden tools.

I think you mentioned that stack before. I have just the opposite, Crown top/Hertage bottom. Drives me nuts!

I have since sold said 8 drawer stack. The spray bombed red drove me crazy and I really liked it but have bought another house so those projects took up most of my time. I would like to find one that is not sprayed but that is hard to do here in the northwest! I totally hear you about tripping over the plomb around here. I was at a swap meet last month and broke my toe on a tool mobile and some dual marked stuff [emoji51]

OK that made me actually laugh out loud!

I understand about letting the spray bombed 8d go. I think that would be one of the hardest paint color/texture to reproduce to an acceptable level. My 8d really needs some bodywork done on it but I'm leaving it alone as it has original paint so I'll look over the dents!

Agreed... weathered original paint and some surface rust is far better than a respray in my opinion. Unfortunately, seems like a lot of sellers of 60 year old boxes don’t share that same feeling [emoji849]

Did somebody say weathered original paint? I think this set qualifies. The first shot is how I found it before I loaded it with tools. You can barely make out the Heritage label.

Nice 2d OTG! I'm always happy to see one that escaped the spray bomb monster. Don, I'd be willing to bet those tools that were in the box when you found it left the store in that box.

Two that sadly did not escape the spray bombers wrath. Two different sellers. The top chest is an older 2-pulls-per-drawer version.

Here is a partial set I found for $30.00 at a Berkeley estate sale in 2016. As I recall, I made a huge $5.00 profit reselling them on eBay.

It’s just a guess but Kennedy stopped using them in 1950 and I believe that S-K changed to metal in 1945. I’m really not sure when New Britain made the transition, although I think this leather handled New Britain set dates between ‘50 and around ‘52. I suppose those with Craftsman catalogs could make a more accurate guess based on the images and descriptions.

I feel kind of bad that I've had so many people wanting to buy that little vise. I just cant bring myself to part with it. It seemed just a little off that I had never seen a reedsman with a heritage badge. (I am no reed or craftsman expert) I had to chose it over the other craftsman vise at the garage sale because I didn't have enough cash for both. I had no idea it would spark so much interest here.

OTG, that leather handle certainly stood the test of time well.

Mr W, add me to the list of those lusting after that vise. Nice line up you have there!

Those are two cool Heritage wall cabinets. I would be going crazy having to fill them up. It’s probably good that I don’t have one. Would this be considered a Heritage label on this Circle U set I used to have?
